Used them twice. First was ok. Second I call to rent pettibone delivered. Got price and quote and set date. Later they called and said they can't deliver to my home. Have to meet 4.4 miles away and I have to drive it home and back for pick up. Safety reasons says driver. Yes windy road. Have had bulldozers here that are much larger. So I ask for delivery $ adjustment. No. Okay fuel for me having to drive on public road. No. So a 64 year old ( me) with 2 minutes of instruction driving at 3 mph nondot no escorts is safer?!? My husband and I have spent thousands of dollars at this store but we'll never set foot back in there after the way Serena treated us. We bought a Stihl chainsaw (our 2nd one from them) and this one, my husband used for no more than 2 weeks and it needed to go in for a warranty covered service. Serena ended up telling us that it needed the head replaced due to an air leak, but after it sat for a week we called and found out she hadn't even ordered the parts yet. We went over her head and called Stihl trying to expedite the process since we needed the saw back for work. She then called us back and LIED to us saying it was fixed and that it only actually needed the decompression valve cleaned. When we came to pick it up, as soon as my husband walked in the door she went off on him saying she "doesn't appreciate all the phone calls" she received from Stihl about the saw. When we asked her to show us it runs properly, she revved it 3 times, shut if off and said she doesn't care whether we come back. Mind you, my husband kept his cool with her and had been very polite through the process and during other visits. She had no reason to be rude with him, all we asked was for the work to be done in a timely fashion. She knows we need this saw for work and we can't afford to be losing money every day we don't have it so of course we want it taken care of quickly. She also told us most warranty covered jobs take no more than a week, and then told us later it would take 2 weeks or more so you'd be upset if you were suddenly out of work for 2 weeks and don't know how you'll pay the bills in the meantime. Upon getting it back, my husband went to look over it before using the next day and found the carburetor was put on crooked and not sealed; after he fixed that and got to work with it, he made 3 cuts with it and started experiencing the same problem we originally brought it in for which is when we realized we'd been taken for a fool by Serena. read more

Overall customer service is horrible. I've rented here numerous times and have yet to have a positive experience, this most recent one was the most disappointing. Unfortunately, there are limited options in the immediate area. When disconnecting their trailer from my vehicle they broke a 4-way pin off in my receiver rendering it unusable. Their response was that someone must have stepped on it, it's not our fault. I have yet to figure out how I can step on the 4-way connection that's up under my bumper. Complete opposite of what I expected from a customer service perspective, especially when they handle both the connect and disconnect. A simple apology would've gone a long way. In the future I will avoid at all costs and seek other options. read more

I wish I could post zero stars. First of all, the gal at the front desk was awesome! Great communication and great customer service. She should be the manager! I rented the piece of equipment with no hassle. She explained everything clearly. She also stated "if you have any problems by time you get home, please call us immediately and let us know ". When we got home we noticed that the cover fell off and there was no screw holding it in place. We immediately called the office, but it was closed. We left a message to make sure that we noted the service flaw. The next day, I returned the piece of equipment. I even cleaned the equipment thoroughly to its original check out condition and filled the gas tank full. When I arrived at BS and E, I made sure to tell all parties involved that the bolt was missing, the manager retorted over the customer service gal and stated, "everything is checked before it's rented out. The bolt must have vibrated out. It happens all the time." I responded and said, "the bolt was missing before we arrived home. I hadn't even used the piece of equipment yet" he restated his statement in the same monotone unfriendly way. Therefore, he was going to charge me for the missing part. He charged me three dollars for a 50 Cent screw. It's not the price of the bolt that I am upset about. It's the way he handled it. It's the principle of the matter in customer service. I made a point to let them know that we called and left a message. Here reiterated his point, again. He would not even consider BS&E at fault. The manager was an A$$. If you rent from this place, make sure that you check out everything! If you have an alternative choice, go somewhere else. However, if you do rent here, complain about every little crack or missing part before you leave. They will charge you for every piece or crack. The manager is a cheater and a liar. He wasn't even on site to verify whether the parts were or were not on the rental equipment. He charged me for a replacement piece that was not on the equipment when I rented it. He took no consideration of my honesty. I wanted to also rent another piece of equipment. The manager knew nothing about the piece of equipment as far as weight, nor was he even willing to get up and go look at the equipment with me. He sat at his desk and made every excuse that he possibly could to not help me. Furthermore, he was too lazy to get up from his desk and come talk to me, the customer. I would consider coming back in renting from this company if they fire this guy. Customer service and kindness is essential, even if you're the only or main rental company in town. Glenn- please correct this individual or make the front desk gal the manager. He comes across as though he has a "chip on his shoulder" or he was in a pissy mood. He did not have to take it out on me. I Am the customer. I am also an employee coach. I train employees about proper customer service techniques and requirements. Please teach him the fundamentals of customer service. If he is un-teachable. Get rid of him. Finally, I do realize that some people grew up without learning good manners. But it's possible to learn if you want to.! read more

For the last 15 years I've been dealing with this company and I've had no problems with them until a few days ago. Below is an email I sent to the Tehachapi yard regarding a beam saw I rented. Dear Glen Pheres & Dametro, This morning I rented a 16" beam saw from BSE Rentals in Tehachapi. When I tried to use the saw to cut a 3" thick GLB the saw was struggling to make the cut even just 8". I then had my helper take a video to show the problem with this saw. In the video I was cutting thru the beam at a diagonal angle (not compound angle) and it is showing that it was struggling to make the cut. When I tried to return the saw to the Tehachapi BSE rental yard, I told them that this saw didn't do the job as intended. One of the guys turned on the saw and said it works just fine and I would have to pay for the day. I then showed them the video I took showing the saw laboring to make the cut but the man at the counter didn't take that into account. He also said that this saw isn't made to cut GLB's or make diagonal cuts. There is no mention of this in any paperwork I received when I rented the saw. He told me to sign and date for the rental but I said I need to talk to someone else like yourself to make things right. They want to just give back the rest of my deposit but keep the rent for the day so here we are in this email. I simply want to get my full deposit of $120 back and be made whole. When I rent something I expect it to live up to what it was intended to do otherwise it has no value. I just want what is right. The Tehachapi yard will not give me my money back for the unusable saw that I rented. Please reply and /or call me regarding this so we can move on. Thank you, Bruce Greenberg P.S. After this email was sent I called them to see if they can reimburse me in some way. The man at the Tehachapi yard told me that he would have to talk to someone in Bakersfield as to what he can do for me. He told me that he would call me back but that never happened so I called him back and he told me that he tried the saw on a 5.5" GLB and it cut just fine but my video shows otherwise. I then was told by a man I talked to on the phone at the BF office that it was in the hands of the Tehachapi yard and he would tell him to call me but he never did so I called him again. He said that he cannot compensate me for the ineffective saw I rented. I asked him if they don't give me money that he can just give me credit for another rental in the future. He did say that I can finish the project with the same saw later but I already finished the job with my saw. It's been 6 days and I still have not heard from them even for a simple credit for rental in the future on another rental. When I call I feel as though I am being a pest. That is not a good feeling for a repeat customer. I will also accept a rental credit since they were willing to allow me to finish the job with the saw in the near future. But since I already finished the job with my own saw, I don't need it so I will accept a rental credit for another item at another time in the future. I will take a future voucher credit instead of a refund they will not refund me my money. It's been about 3 weeks and I still have not heard from them regarding my last request to just receive rental credit. I have already submitted my grievances with the Better Business Bureau. If I don't hear from them in 2 more weeks, I will seek further action from consumer affairs. read more

I agree with the person that said there should be one for less than zero! I rented a piece of equipment today that was completely dysfunctional and not even full of gas. We had to bring it back, they charged me for 1/2 a day rental, the gas that was never in the tank and the trailer we rented to haul it. My next contact will be to the Better Business Bureau, this location is just screwing people with their old beat up equipment and bad attitude. I have 4 mored people that will be joining the report to the BBB as they have all been screwed by Tehachapi BSE. We rented a table and 10 chairs for a party at our house. The table was all rotted out on a couple of sides and the chairs.....EEECK. The Chairs were filthy. As we were cleaning the mud off the chairs we noticed that most of the rubber caps covering the bottom of the metal chair legs were missing. We made our own out of duct tape because we have hard wood floors and we didn't want them scratched. I called the manager to let them know how disappointed we were with the condition of the chairs and table we rented. He said he had 500 more chairs we could come and exchange them. I told him I don't have time to clean 500 more chairs. They should have been clean when I got them. When I went back to return them the next day not even a "we are sorry".......NOTHING. Terry the manager gets two thumbs us from us! We returned a UHaul trailer we had rented in another city as a one-way to be returned in Tehachapi. The guy we rented it from messed up the paper work but told us he had fixed it. Well, he hadn't, and there was no record of us in the computer. With the patience of a saint, Terry made calls and finally got things straightened out, all the while apologizing for the wait. Of course, this had to happen on a Saturday morning with lots of customers coming in to rent equipment for their weekend projects. Thank goodness BSE Tehachapi had employees on duty to help customers while Terry worked on our problem. read more

I recently purchased a home via a short sell. It was vacant for several months prior to our occupation. Upon moving in to the home we began cleaning up the yard. This included racking up 35 garbage bags of cut down grass, several tree branches, and trimmings from other bushes in our yard. We had huge piles of debris in our yard that needed to be cut up and hauled off. Thanks to the services at BSE rentals, I was able to rent a chainsaw to cut everything cut up, and also a truck and a trailer to haul everything off to the dump. I was so thrilled with the folks at BSE who were able to work with my limited time schedule to make available the items I needed, when I needed them. For someone, who is willing to get out in the yard and work, but doesn't need to own and store all the heavy equipment necessary to get the job done, I would highly recommend BSE rentals to make it happen. read more

Rented a uhaul trailer for drop off in Arizona. Clerk set it up for drop off in a similarly named City in California. Nobody knew how to fix it, including UHaul customer service who were absolutely no assistance when called. We were instructed just to take it to any Uhaul in AZ for drop off. Can't wait to see how that works! read more

Horrible service we asked for a car trailer they said they had none available. Then we called AAA and they told us we that there was one there and we were able to reserve it through them luckily but I don't know why they didn't just give it to us when we went in and asked the first time. Wife arrived to pick up a Ditch Witch trencher at the BSE in Tehachapi. The one that was rented to her had a flat tire, they inflated it and told her to watch it. The starter pull cord was hanging halfout but was able to start after several strenuous pulls. My neighbors and I shared the cost of the rental to prepare trenches for our impending interconnection with Race Communication's new fiber optic service. One neighbor used the trencher for approximately 3 hours, after which I was able to use it for 2 hours. Typically, the rental is for an 8 hour period so it is a good idea to strategically utilize the hours and not permit unnecessary idling to eat up portions of the 8 hour user's time. If you go over 8 hours it is an additional $30.00 per hour. The chain quality was very poor and the trenching was extremely slow going. The chain was essentially useless and since we had already spent the rental costs, we labored on to little avail. The numerous operational difficulties eroded our time to a point where we needed to use the on/off switch to more efficiently use our hours. Eventually the on/off switch broke as well, further complicating use of the trencher. This all occurred on Saturday evening, half way through my project, and our neighbor, who shared part of the rental cost was also not able to use the trencher. Having a trencher that couldn't start was difficult to get on the trailer (trailer was another issue). I had to go purchase a come-along to winch the trencher onto the trailer. The trailer itself had issues, including two bald tires and one of the two gate brackets was not working since it was stripped. I had to work Monday morning, I had my 23 year daughter return the trencher to BSE on time at approximately 0800 in the morning. I told her to explain that there is 3 hours remaining of our 8 hours rental cost and request that the 3 hours be prorated as a discount to us. Juanita told my daughter that that this "isn't going to happen and the she's lucky she's not charging us for the broken switch." It's unbelievable that a small town like Tehachapi that has only one rental equipment store would treat us like this. I'm seriously upset about this matter. Renter please beware.
