Totally agree, the worst customer service and the items are just ok. Don't waste your time. The staff seem miserable!

stopped in (finally) to pick up a few treats to entertain guests coming for coffee. Great…read moreassortment to choose from.. difficult even, but we were able to fill a box to everyone's enjoyment. I really liked the assortment of cakes, pies, cookies and more available and will certainly be back again.. and again. A suggestion: While I was intrigued by the sandwich board I had no way to know what the sandwich would look like. Bread? pandora? Ciabatta? 6", 8", 10", 12"... or bread loaf slices? So my suggestion is they get some photos taken or make a few sandwiches wrapped and ready to grab n go. Make one of each and see what sells. I'd use sandwiches as a way to bring in customers who will then purchase a pastry or cookie.. or come back when they need something sweet. sorry, no photos... pastries were gone too fast and they were delicious.

I had delicious coffee, pastry, and gelato. I received good, friendly service. I had a cream and fruits filled croissant, coffee, and a cup of gelato with coconut and pistachio flavors. They were all delicious and pretty good. The gentleman who served me gave me a generous portion of their homemade gelato which was creamy and flavorful. I enjoyed my experience here. I liked the variety of pastries and other sweet treats this fime establishment had to offer. I definitely recommend checking them out.

My maid of honor and I went for a cake tasting not too long ago. They are located very close to…read morewhere we live and we knew just where it was. Except when we got there we were confused - the only thing on that block was the old, closed Gladstone Bakery and nothing else that even resembled a business, much less a bakery. Figuring I got the address wrong, I started to head back to the car when a guy comes out of an old, beat-up, unmarked door. He sees us standing there and says "oh, you looking for Baking for the Taking? In here". Well, once inside it was a very clean, modern kitchen, but what the heck? Could we have a sign on the door - any sign - considering this was a rather sketchy looking building exterior? It was like being granted access to some kind of speakeasy...say the password and all that spy shit. Doesnt make sense! The cakes we tried were fantastic, and the girls working there were very nice. Unfortunately they turned out to be a high quote due to a lot of "upcharges"; for everything from changing the height of a tier to adding fruit. Plus the cake decorator had a very heavy hand - meaning, if you are looking for tiny, delicate decorations, dont come here, her style is better suited to big, chunky designs.

The birthday boy was big into cards s The owner of the bakery drove my cakes all the way out to Arlington Heights where my party was. One of the cakes was a lemon (yes, this birthday party had some seniors in attendance) and the other was a magnificent chocolate cake. That party was almost 2 years ago and I still get people asking me for baking for the takings number. If you want your guests to be raving how great the cake was, Baking for the Taking is the way to go!

Hands down, the BEST sourdough bread and pastries ever. Never did I think I would speak so…read morepassionately about English Muffins but I find myself doing so on a weekly basis haha. I can't help but make a purchase just about every week. It's a staple- not only for me, but my coworkers as well. Anyone that has tried Fresh Bakes by Mary gets hooked immediately. I've been a loyal customer for a few holidays now and it's my go-to gift every time. At this point, it's requested. We enjoy a slice of toast a couple times a week and like to jazz up English muffins. Whether it's a breakfast sandwich, avocado or egg toast, butter & jam, or pizza- we reach for a slice every time! We absolutely love it. I also have to add that this is the first time (and I've heard the same from others) that I don't feel bloated after eating a couple slices of her bread. Her double fermented method lets your body break it down easier and you don't get that heavy feeling- a great option for diabetics. She makes it convenient by sending a reminder text on Tuesday noon when the orders open and you have until Wednesday 8:30pm to place your order. Pickups are on Saturdays from 8-noon and scheduled. Orders are conveniently placed in a shed on the left side of her home. Her prices are fair with the competition and quality goods EVERY time. She's a professional and you can taste it in every bite!
