With the freezing temperatures, we had a water line burst and flood our furnace. I called Chapman…read moreand they scheduled us for both repairs the same day. The furnace tech diagnosed the furnace as needing at least a new control board and couldn't be sure other parts weren't bad. The furnace was full of ice. Based on the price of the potential repairs, it made more sense to replace the furnace. The installers arrived first thing the next morning and we had heat around lunch time. Everyone from Chapman was clean, courteous and did great work. It wasn't cheap for any of this, but we feel that the prices were reasonable, especially since we were 100% done the very next day.

My original review of Chapman was in 2018 and centered around my wonky but still operational…read morefurnace. This time around, I've gotten the chance to try out Chapman to address some electrical issues in the house. Truthfully, I wasn't aware that Chapman handled electrical. I'd begun having some significant electrical issues a couple weeks before Thanksgiving. I called another company that I'd used for a smaller project with good results. They came over and did some minor adjustments, however, they noted there were significant issues and planned to send me an estimate. They did let me know this "fix" was more like a band-aid and the significant work was inevitable. It was less than a day when the "band-aid" stopped working. I waited a bit anticipating their estimate, though also disappointed that they'd done such a weak fix. Finally, things got WAY worse. It was shortly before Thanksgiving and the situation was urgent. I left a message for Chapman anticipating that I was likely out of luck for the holiday weekend. My general sense was that was their plan, too. However, I think the rep (I believe her name was Hannah) heard the panic in my voice and I explained my situation. She arranged for a technician to visit the house the next day. This tech did agree that the issue was serious and warranted a few major repairs. He explained it well and explained my options. To be honest, I'm usually quite cheap. However, when he gave me two options I went with the more expensive option as I really wanted to make sure the fix was done properly. I was tired of band-aids. They used my initial service call as a down payment and the electrician, Rodney as I recall, scheduled it and made sure he would be the electrician for the project (NOTE: In reality, this ended up being a 2-3 person job). The only slight hiccup was that I'd been told they'd arrive at 8am. In reality, I called them at 10am and learned they were having trouble finding one needed part. That was fine, though I should have been called. Around 11:15, and somewhat surprisingly, they arrived and dug in. Seven hours later? They were done. I was particularly touched by a neat gesture - I'm a wheelchair user. In their estimate, the electrician had written that he'd be putting my new panel in at wheelchair height. This wasn't something I asked for particularly, however, it was a pretty cool gesture recognizing my needs. Rodney explained everything and was entirely work focused. He completed the work as promised and the cost was exactly as quoted. He explained a couple other concerns - including one that wouldn't be a Chapman issue, however, he explained how it could impact the electric. I've now had Chapman work on my furnace and my electric. Are they more expensive? Yeah, I'd say so. If you're looking for a budget electrician, Chapman probably isn't that. However, in all three visits the work has been done and done well. They've avoided band-aids and actually fixed issues. Their quotes have been accurate. The employees have been professional. With the exception of today's tardiness, the experiences have all been impeccable. Truthfully, I should have likely called Chapman first. While I may not call them for smaller issues, the truth is for me it's worth a bit more to get the work done right. The work is warrantied and I now have a system that should last for years and is also accessible. That other company? I still don't have their estimate. Chapman wins.

Came home from work to a very chilly house and finding my furnace quit on me. I called just about…read moreevery heating and cooling company I could think off, most of them either rude, hung up on me, available a week out, not returning my calls and so on. But then I got lucky with New Phase, he returned my call and was able to squeeze me in the following day. Communication skills A+++, he let me know when he was running a few minutes late, kept me updated throughout the process. When he was on the way, when he would be there, what to expect along the way, instant written estimates and receipts. Great. I dealt with Justin and he is one of the most polite and accommodating individuals I have ever met, I didn't know this level of courtesy and respect still existed. During his first visit, he explained to me exactly what he was looking at, how to read the codes of the furnace (which will save me grief and $$$ in the future), tried to fix wat the codes indicated. When that didn't work, he investigated further, found and showed me a crack in the heating element (bad news) and so I needed a replacement. I told him my upstairs was not heating or cooling as well as my ground floor and so he checked my duct work in the crawl space for me and it checked out fine. Suggested a more powerful blower for the new furnace since that would not add to the cost. Since my air-conditioner was 29 years old, I decided we might as well replace that too while we are at it to save a little on the cost. Yes, I checked the BBB, Yelp reviews and any other reviews I could find. I double and triple checked with friends and professionals in regards to the costs, but was told by every single person that the price was extremely reasonable and I should definitely go with this company. And so I did. Again, great communication throughout, and we found a day and time that would work for both of us. It took a little longer to install than anticipated, but that is because I have a very old house and difficulties generally pop up. But Justin took it in stride even so he had to alter some parts and custom built some and in the end I had a beautifully working furnace. He cleaned up after the job and I think my house was cleaner than when he started. Not only do I now have a wonderfully warm furnace, a huge air-conditioner and a programmable thermostat, but I also have a one year warranty on labor and 10-year manufacturer warranties which Justin already registered for me. What more could you ask for?

Since then, we have run into issue after issue, all due to mistakes that were made during the original install. Each time we have reached out to Justin for help, but he continuously ghosts us and will not show up to make things right. Beware - he will only honor the 1 year labor warranty if you are willing to wait weeks before you can finally get him onsite. We have a 7mo baby and her bedroom was up to 84 degrees last night. Still waiting on a response from Justin although it's almost been a week with constant outreach from us! I've never experience such poor communication from a business owner - it's absurd. Unfortunately, this will be the third time that we're having to pay an outside company to fix our brand new AC unit. EXTREMELY disappointed and hope others don't make the same mistake as we did!

Family Heating and Air was able to get me in with next day service. Wow! I'm so glad that I called! Blocked dryer vents can cause house fires, and now I'm at lower risk because I've had the vent cleaned. I called our regular HVAC company and they don't do vent cleaning. I called another HVAC company that we've used and their price seemed high. I discovered Family on Google and their had exceptionally high ratings so I called. Not only were they super friendly and kind, they were able to get me in the very next day and at a very reasonable price. Clay, the service tech, was on time and super personable. He got right to work and had the vent cleaned in no time. And when he showed us what came out, I was mortified. I'm very grateful the house didn't burn down and that my dryer will actual work now!

I always feel that they are giving us honest information and appreciate all of the communication touch points from booking to when the technician is arriving and follow-up after the visit. We've been lucky enough to have Darren for most of our visits and he always puts my mind at ease. We also are signed up for their annual membership, where they come twice a year to tune up our air conditioner and furnace when the seasons change. It's reasonably priced at $99 and helps keep us on schedule and everything operating smoothly. If you're on the hunt for a heating and cooling business, I highly recommend them.

During the appointment, the technician told me that cleaning the flame sensor would cost extra, even though I believed it was part of the tune-up service. When I questioned it, he then said he would go ahead and clean it at no charge, and the process took only a few minutes. When I called afterward to clarify why this happened, I spoke with the owners. Unfortunately, the conversation was difficult -- I felt talked over, and the responses came across as defensive. I did not feel that my concerns about the service or the upsell attempt were listened to or addressed. Based on my experience, I would recommend that others consider this factor when choosing a service provider.
