This time around, I've gotten the chance to try out Chapman to address some electrical issues in the house. Truthfully, I wasn't aware that Chapman handled electrical. I'd begun having some significant electrical issues a couple weeks before Thanksgiving. I called another company that I'd used for a smaller project with good results. They came over and did some minor adjustments, however, they noted there were significant issues and planned to send me an estimate. They did let me know this "fix" was more like a band-aid and the significant work was inevitable. It was less than a day when the "band-aid" stopped working. I waited a bit anticipating their estimate, though also disappointed that they'd done such a weak fix. Finally, things got WAY worse. It was shortly before Thanksgiving and the situation was urgent. I left a message for Chapman anticipating that I was likely out of luck for the holiday weekend. My general sense was that was their plan, too. However, I think the rep (I believe her name was Hannah) heard the panic in my voice and I explained my situation. She arranged for a technician to visit the house the next day. This tech did agree that the issue was serious and warranted a few major repairs. He explained it well and explained my options. To be honest, I'm usually quite cheap. However, when he gave me two options I went with the more expensive option as I really wanted to make sure the fix was done properly. I was tired of band-aids. They used my initial service call as a down payment and the electrician, Rodney as I recall, scheduled it and made sure he would be the electrician for the project (NOTE: In reality, this ended up being a 2-3 person job). The only slight hiccup was that I'd been told they'd arrive at 8am. In reality, I called them at 10am and learned they were having trouble finding one needed part. That was fine, though I should have been called. Around 11:15, and somewhat surprisingly, they arrived and dug in. Seven hours later? They were done. I was particularly touched by a neat gesture - I'm a wheelchair user. In their estimate, the electrician had written that he'd be putting my new panel in at wheelchair height. This wasn't something I asked for particularly, however, it was a pretty cool gesture recognizing my needs. Rodney explained everything and was entirely work focused. He completed the work as promised and the cost was exactly as quoted. He explained a couple other concerns - including one that wouldn't be a Chapman issue, however, he explained how it could impact the electric. I've now had Chapman work on my furnace and my electric. Are they more expensive? Yeah, I'd say so. If you're looking for a budget electrician, Chapman probably isn't that. However, in all three visits the work has been done and done well. They've avoided band-aids and actually fixed issues. Their quotes have been accurate. The employees have been professional. With the exception of today's tardiness, the experiences have all been impeccable. Truthfully, I should have likely called Chapman first. While I may not call them for smaller issues, the truth is for me it's worth a bit more to get the work done right. The work is warrantied and I now have a system that should last for years and is also accessible. That other company? I still don't have their estimate. Chapman wins.

Roberto responded quickly to my Yelp project. He offered a flat $65 service call, which would apply toward the quote if I moved forward--which I appreciated. He was able to come out the next day to look things over and then got the job done the day after that. Both appointments had minor time shifts, but he still came through the same day and communicated well throughout. The work was solid, the price was fair, and by the time they left I was up and running with cold air. Can't ask for much more than that.

But then I got lucky with New Phase, he returned my call and was able to squeeze me in the following day. Communication skills A+++, he let me know when he was running a few minutes late, kept me updated throughout the process. When he was on the way, when he would be there, what to expect along the way, instant written estimates and receipts. Great. I dealt with Justin and he is one of the most polite and accommodating individuals I have ever met, I didn't know this level of courtesy and respect still existed. During his first visit, he explained to me exactly what he was looking at, how to read the codes of the furnace (which will save me grief and $$$ in the future), tried to fix wat the codes indicated. When that didn't work, he investigated further, found and showed me a crack in the heating element (bad news) and so I needed a replacement. I told him my upstairs was not heating or cooling as well as my ground floor and so he checked my duct work in the crawl space for me and it checked out fine. Suggested a more powerful blower for the new furnace since that would not add to the cost. Since my air-conditioner was 29 years old, I decided we might as well replace that too while we are at it to save a little on the cost. Yes, I checked the BBB, Yelp reviews and any other reviews I could find. I double and triple checked with friends and professionals in regards to the costs, but was told by every single person that the price was extremely reasonable and I should definitely go with this company. And so I did. Again, great communication throughout, and we found a day and time that would work for both of us. It took a little longer to install than anticipated, but that is because I have a very old house and difficulties generally pop up. But Justin took it in stride even so he had to alter some parts and custom built some and in the end I had a beautifully working furnace. He cleaned up after the job and I think my house was cleaner than when he started. Not only do I now have a wonderfully warm furnace, a huge air-conditioner and a programmable thermostat, but I also have a one year warranty on labor and 10-year manufacturer warranties which Justin already registered for me. What more could you ask for?

The next day the two service guys came here and worked to put the new system in. It was such hard work for them to remove the old system. They built a new platform for the new system to sit on and fit the new system where the old system was. Found everything in…read moreworking order, and let me know that two parts were close or at their end-of-life: capacitors out of spec. No hard sells or unexpected up charges. I wanted to do the capacitor replacements myself, and they let me know what I needed to do to accomplish those tasks. I'd say 90% of my HVAC tune-ups do not give me the actual spec vs out-of-spec notes for wear & tear items like capacitors. Bryan H&C is the ONLY one to spend the 2 mins letting me know some pointers, since I wanted to DIY the repair. If you hire them, know that It's a small shop. Be flexible on time and scheduling.
