Had the Chicago Dog on sourdough today instead of poppy seed. Both versions are excellent. Heard the Spicy Cajun Chicken Sausage is amazing, so will try that next time. Tater Tots are good- not great, but not sure how you make perfect tater tots. Always enjoy the atmosphere and wait staff/ proprietors who are very friendly/courteous. read more

My entire family loves this restaurant...even the non-hot dog lovers (like myself-I order the sea dog-a breaded fish filet on a poboy style hot dog bun with tarter sauce, tomato wedges, and a prickle spear). I could eat the loaded tater tots as a meal, they're soooo good! The prices are a bit high, but the atmosphere and quirky waitress makes it all worthwhile...going back tomorrow with the in-laws! I love this place! I had a Jambalaya Dog and it was delicious! It's definitely worth the price. At first I was like..that much for a hot dog? But, when I got it, it was so big and very filling! Didn't know what to think about a "hot dog joint" but after trying Bruiser's, all I can say is deliciousness. The food was fresh, flavorful, and filling. I got the New Yorker, which just reminds me of my northern roots. Sooo good. There are also some items not on the menu, just ask. Service was friendly and fast. If you've lived in this area most of your life, you haven't had a hot dog like this. If you are from areas that do dogs well, it'll remind you of home. Go there and enjoy. read more

I love a good hotdog , Hotdogs are good have a nice snap to them chili is ok, There are no combos on the menu, every thing is a al'carte.and every thing high ticket, not sure if the owners understand that a 6.99 hot dog with out a side ,is a little high pocket for the working class customer who live in the area.me and my husband had one barduca dog and a classic dog and a coke , bill came out to $20.00. We did not even get tator's cause they wanted another 6.00 .I did make a suggestion to the owner about combos and how it would bring more people in but it seems they are sticking to the high end , I live about 3 blocks away and pass them every other day , Place is always empty,. shame people who own seems nice , but if you can not take some helpful advice.that on you ,,, Hate to see local business go down .I could have went to walmart bought some Angus ballparks and some chile cheese and tater tots for under 20.00. We added the cost and we could have gone to Texas road house and ordered 2burgers (that come with fries ) 2 drinks for $18.00.+3.00 tip... you add it up ,,, read more

My wife and I had the pleasure eating at Bruiser's today and it was a home run. We started with the tater tachos (tater tots covered in homage chili, cheese, bacon pieces, and some great pico de gallio on the side). My wife had the Duca dog and I hade the Chicago and having been to Chicago several times I would put theirs up against the real deal. Finally, the service is what is worth 5 stars. Friendly, but not over bearing; this has the makings of a great neighborhood establishment in Slidell. Awesome job guys! We will be back. read more

Extremely limited parking. I was looking for a place to eat, saw these reviews and decided to try them. The parking lot was full even though there were plenty of open tables and the neighbors had patrons only signs in their parking lots. I passed them by and went somewhere else. read more

Wow...Just wow! Everything is made from the freshest ingredients and I think it's so clean you could eat in the restrooms! The patio is pet-friendly, so you can bring along your 4-legged pal with ya' They do ask that snakes or dangerous animals be left at home. Bruiser's has a Bike Night on Wednesdays and is a Chicago Cubs Fan Bar, as well as, the Saints, of course. The food is excellent and prepared as ordered, not ahead of time. Stopped in today for lunch. Owners have done a great job on the old building. Service was great. Very limited menu but I understand there will be more added to menu in the near furture. The Hotdog was not what I expected and below average. Love a good gourmet hotdog but these were not close. I was on my way out of town after visiting New Orleans for the first time last summer and decided to get a bite to eat before I hit the road. I accidentally came upon Bruiser's and I am absolutely not kidding when I say that if I ever return to visit that area of the country, it will most likely be to experience again the best hot dog I've ever had. Hot dog, chili, crumbled bacon, cheese and the best cole slaw (home made of course even with home made mayo) on a soft sour dough role. (OMG I want one now just because I'm writing about it.) Excellent food is a given. Add to that fast, excellent service and best of all, the most friendly people! Since I live in New Jersey--a state where everyone believes that they have the final word on quality dogs--I will probably have to wait for another Bruiser's hot dog. HOWEVER, I would be happy to help put together a Bruiser's Cook Book in exchange for one more bite. read more

I heard about Bruiser's and when on Friday my wife said she was in the mood for a hot dog (quite an unusual event) I decided this was our chance to try it out. We found the atmosphere of the place charming and welcoming. Several TVs around the walls (audible but not blaring) provided some entertainment. Staff was very cheerful and friendly. We liked the variety on the menu - not as extensive as Dat Dog, but still a lot of choices. I had the New Yorker (of course) with sauerkraut and onion sauce on a poppy seed bun. She had the All-American with onions and chili on a sourdough bun. Both had flavor with a kick. I especially appreciated the sauerkraut which was genuinely sour - not the washed-out rotten cabbage sometimes passed as sauerkraut. I later found out that the kraut was fermented on the premises in a 21-day process. I do have to agree with some of the other reviewers that the cost is a bit pricey for "hot dogs", but we did enjoy the atmosphere, people-watching the other customers and came away very relaxed after a long hard week. I could have gotten more quantity for the buck at a fast food place or could have endured the clatter in one of the local steak houses for close the same price, but I nevertheless enjoyed my visit to Bruiser's. We plan to return. read more
