Went to meet a friend for drinks after work and I'll say that I was pleasantly surprised by this place. I wasn't expecting a dive-y bar just off the Ave and I definitely wasn't expecting such good food, service and prices. I stuck to beer but they had what seemed to be a full bar (nothing too fancy) and a few domestics on draught. The bartender, Tommy, was attentive and fun to get to know. You could tell he loved what he does and he interacted with everyone. There's shuffleboard inside, maybe twenty or so seats at the bar and a few tables for groups. The pizza was excellent and Tommy suggested a vinaigrette with Gorgonzola cheese to complement it. DELICIOUS. The prices were great and I'll definitely be going back- especially if Tommy is there. The only negative I can think of is that there's really no dedicated parking (that I saw) so I had to leg it in the cold for a bit but really, it wasn't a big deal. This place could burn down and it would be an improvement. Wet sticky floors, dirty glasses, miserable bartenders. How does it even pass the health inspections let alone stay in business? I'd say avoid it like the plague but the plague is probably preferable. read more

Only been there twice but haven't been in a few years. There's was road work being done right outside a few winters ago and I was doing traffic control. Every few hours I would go In grab something to eat and a nice shot of "water" to help keep me warm. The people were great, food was great. Water was amazing on a nice December night. read more

A real throwback in an area of people with a lot of money and old unrestored places are closing left and right. Another amazing thing here is the bar food. Dive bar that offers a lot of history and old school feeling. They have these pan pizzas that they make on their exceptionally seasoned year old pans and they are pretty tasty and never disappoint. If you add peppers to any of the choices, it has a serious kick!! Their chili is good and spicy so if you are faint of heart, opt for hamburger or any topping. Come with a little patience as you do need to wait for these custom made pizzas since the kitchen is small...not the best I have had but definitely satisfying and if you turn out wearing beer goggles from this place, then they will be the best you've had!! read more

Without a doubt, one of my favorite places in Greenwich. Pizza is delicious, beer is cheap and bar is dark but full of warmth. Upon entering the hallowed BPG grounds, you can sense the decades of nicotine in the ceiling, alcohol in the floor but not because it smells. It's the best dive for the side of town that won't be seen on post cards. Learned how to shuffle here, but will always feel like 'the rookie and the vet' on this board. Today was my first trip to BPG after hearing many rave reviews about their pizza from multiple and varied sources (indicates to me there might be something worth checking out). I had also heard much tell about its down home dive bar atmosphere (always a lead worth checking out to me), which was definitely present and accounted for, including the sacred shuffle board table. All made all the better by the fact that BPR sits steps from the world famous Greenwich Avenue. Crowd was a mix of locals spanning the Fairfield County gambit , bartender was friendly food was better than good and super cheap. My pizza was ringed in crispy burnt cheese, if you are into that sort of thing it was most yummy. I had pepperoni, hot peppers and onion on the pie, onions are cut thin enough that they caramelize, similar to Colony - the pies are reminiscent of Colony though the crust is thicker here, not to my liking but not a deal breaker) For under $10 awesome lunch and snack. Hubbie had the burger, I am always on the look out for a good burger and this was just that. Great grill flavor, perfect size for the bun, even with L/T/O and cheese it held together and easy to put down, pick up, pass to me for nibbles, a little thing but really awesome when it happens. We each had 3 or 4 domestic beers and split a couple neat tequilas our total bill was $35, not bad at all! Their kitchen is not up to code for a fryer so no french fries or onion rings but I probably eat too many of those things anyway- chips, potato and macaroni salads as options instead. Well considering I just got pulled over by an awesome police officer (no ticket whew) I decided I was not going to drink anymore, even though I only had one drink prior at our birthday celebration dinner at the Abis (ehhh); but heck this place was awesome, what a great bartender and my family members enjoyed their time, as did I - coming back another time to try the highly rated tavern pizza....A good local Greenwich bar tucked away in the less known area off of Bruce Park! I recommend it for the "way back" experience - where bartenders weren't just being nice for a tip....Way to Go Greenwich! read more

This place is an absolute gem of Greenwich for those who are looking for a chilled out oasis within the hustle and bustle of what can sometimes be a very stuck up, rude, nasty and overpriced place. The Bad... This place is amazing, so if you can look past these two bad aspects, I think you will have a blast. Terrible beer selection. IIRC it was something like Coors light and Coors. To be fair at least it is cheap. I think this is the cheapest beer on tap in Greenwich. The parking is awkward. It's on the corner and so you have to park on street and the parking is very very limited. I hate this aspect and am thankful that I can actually walk to this location. If you are within walking distance of here and have not been then I am sorry to say that you have been missing out. The Good... It's a quiet, cute little place for starters. It's sort of like the place where all the laid back and chilled out people go in town who don't have to wear a 3 piece suit to fit in if you know what I mean. You could dress like a total slob and come here but come on now, you are in Greenwich so wear something respectable. They have a legit shuffleboard and it is badass. I mean it is truly awesome and you just don't see many of these around anywhere. You can tell they take pride in it as they should, because it takes up quite a bit of real estate in this tiny little place. The staff is friendly and like I said, chilled out. It's just a laid back easy going place. It's an oasis from the desert of madness that can sometimes be Fairfield County. You would think this was like a small town dive bar in rural New England. It brings me back to my days in the Farmington Valley... Not trashy by any means, but not pretentious and stuck up. Their pizza. This is pretty much their signature offering as far as I can tell. Get it. Get their spicy pizza. It's really impressive. They are pretty small and also cheap, so perhaps you will want two. When I go I get 2 different ones. Man, what a treat. They have a crispy edge and I don't really know how to describe it but it is basically just a little something special. Like I said, it's their signature thing they have going on there. They have a cute little jukebox if that is your thing. I get the sense that they also have a fair amount of regulars. It's a much different crowd than that of Greenwich Ave (aside from only the saloon) It's a quiet little place on the corner of whatever. Nobody has to know your name but if they do then all the better. You will probably love this place... unless you just have to be pampered and coddled... then stick to one of those Lavish places on Greenwich Ave... Just don't show up expecting valet parking and a waiter in a tux. I am giving this place 5 stars because I couldn't think of anything I did not like and I could only think of things that I don't like. No, I don't think I am being generous. This bar and restaurant is located at the bottom of Greenwich Avenue right across the street from the train station. Is there a simple place but a nice place to have a cocktail or beer and enjoy some just real simple food done very nicely. Real nice pizzas and sandwiches there.
