I've used Browns for multiple homes over the years. Recently my 80 year old father had a spring issue. A tech came by and it turns out it just needed oiling. Hooray. THEN, my nephew said he was saving up to have springs replaced, as another company had told him it was needed. I told him to call Browns and I would foot the bill for him as a bday present. The tech came out and let him know the spring was NOT the issue. He needed a new opener which he already had possession of. I guess the only way to repay Browns is to write this review. If I could give them no stars I would. Terrible customer service. Schedules us for an appointment for 10 AM then doesn't show up for it. We ended up calling them only for them to say we didn't have an appointment. Then when we rescheduled, they showed up 3 hours late to say that they weren't going to perform their job. Worst garage door company I've come in contact with. SAVE YOUR TIME AND MONEY and find a more reputable company. Not to mention the lady answering calls sounded high. read more

Don't use these guys. 11 years ago they did a good job installing our door opener so I called them to rebuild our door after a broken spring. It's a father and and son team. Took them hours for a 2 hour job.They broke a replacement pane of glass during the rebuild and never came back to fix it (we paid for it) after 2 calls and promises. Yesterday, now about 3 months later, one of the rollup cables snapped! Called a different company who came today (next day service!) and said the cause was the Brown's installed spring was not level - it was installed at an angle, probably eyeballed, and that's what caused the cable to snap. Dad and son are nice enough but I think both are essentially lazy and are probably tired of the business - the Dad inherited it from his Dad. Just lousy businessmen. read more

This is a letter I sent to Brown's Overhead Door, that was returned, as their address on the Invoice was wrong, and returned to me! After I was told, the door was all finalized, the last time you were here, I found there was no second remote, was promised. You were supposed to come-by on a day at 4:00 PM and do that second remote, and NO SHOW!! Since the above, I have also realized the Bottom-Door Sensors, were never installed, either. From talking to others, I am told it is against the law to not have those on an automatic door system! I want a follow-up and finalizing of all the above, or I will be reversing that final check I wrote to you!! Am highly disappointed on the whole way this "installation" went! Too many promise times, and no-show!! Almost all the no-shows were not making me aware of via a phone call, etc. Then, other time promises were almost always not followed-up, and it was a ton of calls and worries by myself that it may never get done properly! I went with you fellows, due to your past/previous reputations, and was highly brought to my attention, that your business practices are highly less than the professional reputations you once had. I will not make-up my mind, whether to NOT recommend you, or otherwise, until I am totally satisfied that this whole job is finalized! Which includes the installations of the Safety System at the bottom of the door, that prevents it to fully close, if an object is in the way, and the providing of that second Remote, I was promised from the beginning! I am highly disappointed that the calls and texts I have sent you, in the past week or two, about all the above has been obviously ignored! I was so very disappointed with the lack of customer service and complete disregard for calling me back. Browns overhead door was recommended by another real estate agent and so I called to get a consultation about what was going wrong with my clients garage door. The clients had moved out of the area so they entrusted me with getting this taken care of. Branden ran late coming the first time, actually not convinced now that he came at all, then texted with a price and I approved the work to be done. He said he would come Monday, Monday was Veterans Day and he didn't show. When asked where he was he explained it was a holiday so he would come Thursday. Yep you guessed it no show Thursday, then said Friday no show Friday and then Saturday through today Tuesday he won't pick up my calls or text me back! read more

This company totally ripped my dad off. He purchased his garage door through Brown's through a referral service. They contacted him and persuaded him to go through them even though he was in McMinnville, OR and they are in Vancouver, WA. He hired them and they came and installed the garage door. The next day the garage door wasn't working. He called them and they said they would come and fix it for $200. They came out and fixed it. A few weeks later it stopped working again only to tell him after the fix that it would be another $200. I can't believe business's like this can stay open. read more

Let me start off by saying I hate having to leave negative reviews. But, I believe in warning others when I've had a poor experience, so they don't have to endure the same poor experience. Read the 1- and 2-star reviews--they are on-par with the service we received. I wish I had read these reviews first. We purchased a home last year that has 2 garage doors, one double, one single. The previous owners never had an opener installed on the single door, and we needed one installed. After spending hours researching products, I started calling different local garage door companies and discussing specific Liftmaster brand models and pricing. We first called in late summer (July-ish) but ended up needing to postpone getting the garage door installed. I called around again for quotes in October, including some Costco-associated dealers. The most affordable Dealer was $625 (for an 8ft door) with a 10% rebate (Costco cash card), so basically $563 out-of-pocket expense for a Liftmaster belt-drive with 2 remotes and a keypad--installed. Brown's had previously quoted me $425 for a chain-drive Liftmaster product and no keypad, which was fine because our other unit was a chain-drive, and we already had the keypad. My husband called in October to verify the quote and schedule a time for installation. He was told they weren't at the office the first time he called, and they would get back to us. We waited, and the call never came, so we called the following Monday. It was confirmed that $425 was the price. No discussion of brands or models took place because we were just calling to verify the previous quote in which the brand and model were discussed at length. Installation was scheduled for a Monday. Brandon was late, so I called the office (his mom), and she said he was still on his way. When he arrived, he didn't even know what product he was installing. He asked, and I showed him what we currently had and said a similar one, meaning a different model but the same brand--as I'd discussed with his mom. He said he had something similar in his van, but it wasn't for an 8ft door and would need to come back. He rescheduled for Wed. Unfortunately, I couldn't be there because of a previously scheduled appointment. My husband made time to be there, and I told him to make sure it was the same brand we were quoted, Liftmaster. (I was worried after Brandon said he didn't have the rail for an 8ft door and would need to get an extension piece, which should not have been an issue as the rail should have been a single piece.) My husband double-checked with Brandon when he arrived and was told it was the same thing. When I got home from my appointment, I was shocked to find a Chamberlin product with a multi-piece rail installed. Keep in mind I had done my research and already knew the same company manufactured Chamberlin and Liftmaster. But, I specifically wanted 1) a unit that matched my existing unit, 2) had a single 8ft rail--not a multi-piece rail, and 3) had a remote with multiple buttons so we could open both doors with all of our remotes. Not only was the brand something I could have bought at Home Depot for under $140, but we were charged $75 more than our quote! My husband was told the extra charge was for the 8ft rail, which was total BS considering the rail came in pieces. The next day I found out the remote only had one button, which meant my husband still had to get out of his car to close the other garage door every time he pulled in/out for work. I was furious. After two phone calls to "make things right," we ended up having to pay another $80 ($155 extra and $580 total) for the unit we were quoted $425. I wish we had never gone with Brown's. Not only would we have a better unit (belt-drive), but we would have less overall out-of-pocket expense for it and wouldn't have been bait-and-switched. I guess I'm lucky, though; at least they came back, took the other big box store unit out, and replaced it with the one we were promised the first time. It sounds like others weren't so lucky. The entire experience was awful. The way things went down was very deceptive, and I will never do business with Brown's again. In fact, I would advise everyone to stay far away. If you're a member, go with a Costco-recommended dealer. You'll get a better deal, a better product, and likely a more professional encounter. read more

Although I try to support local companies, I would definitely not recommend this one!After charging for a service call to remedy a problem with our garage door, I notified the owner the following week that the issue had returned and a follow-up visit would be necessary. The owner agreed he would return at no charge and a time was scheduled. He never showed up & never called. Over the next 2 months, after repeated phone calls, which often went to an answering machine that did not accept messages, I finally reached him by phone and was given no reason for his no-show or lack of follow-up. Another appointment was set up, resulting in another no-show with no follow-up call ... and then after another call from me, a 3rd and final no-show last week. I have reached my limit with this guy and his complete lack of professionalism, lack of customer service and consideration. I also feel ripped off by a service charge of $117 for a temporary remedy that he never completely resolved - showing me that he doesn't stand by his work and strive for the customer's satisfaction. I had great experience with Brown's. He accommodated my schedule and inspected the issue. He had replacement parts on hand and quickly fixed the issue. He explained exactly what had happened to cause the issue and how he fixed it. He made recommendations on a few parts replacements and showed me the difference between the parts and the upgrades. It was logical and even with the recommended upgrades was cheaper than the two other quotes I got. At completion the door was noticeably quieter and ran much smoother. I really don't like leaving negative reviews but they are VERY undependable and I want to warn others. They installed my garage door no problem, although it took more than a couple weeks instead of 3 days as first quoted. They also framed in and installed a walk through door but have not finished installing the trim... it's been 4 months! Doug has been very difficult to get a hold of. He has told me many times (mostly thru text messages) that he will be here to finish but has either come up with an excuse or just doesn't show up. He did manage to stop by one day and worked on the door trim a little and said he'd be back the next day to finish. No show...again! I've sent numerous messages to no avail. They also have not returned my spare remote door opener, which they used to access the job while I was at work and have left scrap pieces of lumber that they were supposed to haul away. Wow! Brown's installed our high quality garage door way back in November 2000. As I pulled into the drive way and hit the up button it started to go up but then, with a loud snap, it quickly went down from about two and half feet - thud. Went inside and noted the left main spring had snapped. Know how often we use the door that was likely over 50,000 cycles of faithful service - and it still looks like new. Pulled out the file and called Brown's any they were onsite within 45 minutes! They replaced both main springs at my request, inspected and lubed the rollers and hinges. They found that the traveller on the Genie Lift screw drive had stripped threads from when the spring failed and the door dropped the door. They replaced the traveller on the spot. This was all accomplished in less than an hour and at a reasonable price. The door goes up and down with that smooth hum like new. read more

We had an old 6 x 12 barn door that would hardly open or shut. Browns was able to give us 3 options for new shop door. The one we choose was installed and of high quality not to mention perfect for us. No gaps for rodents to get in, insulated, easy to lift (even my wife can do it) and all for a fair price. He responded to my call. He was late arriving. He did the Springs then went to acquire the door opener. I told him what we wanted (Genie) and he said he only bought commercial brands. When he arrived, he had purchased the cheapest model of a Chamberlain opener. For $20.00 more, we could have gotten a far better unit from Genie and with it, we would have gotten multiple remotes. Due to his purchase, we only got one remote. So, we asked him to buy an additional unit and bring it to us. He said he would return the next morning at 8:00. We paid him in advance and he failed to honor his word. He did not show. Over and over. He hung up on us multiple times and frankly was incredibly RUDE. It got to the point where we just said to stay away. I wanted nothing more to do with fighting for what I had already paid for. I lost the money we paid. I will NEVER recommend him and I will NEVER use him for anything. read more

If I could give zero stars I would. These guys came out to my house 45 minutes late. I told the technician we got our garage door to work and that we no longer needed his services. He proceeded to charge me $106 for his "time, gas, and insurance". I couldn't believe it. The technician then "serviced" my door and what a shocker it does not work again. The technician used foul language in front of my 3 young children and my neighbor. We notified the owner and he was cold, rude, and unapologetic to my wife. I called after receiving a recommendation from my HOA's property management company. I needed a panel replaced on my garage door. Technician came out the next day, 2 hours after end of quoted 4-hour window. I asked that an estimate be emailed to me. Waited two days, called again. He said he'd the know the price next week. A week passes, nothing. Call again, talk to another technician to schedule an appointment. Call 2 hours after no-show, says he'd be right there. Literally 6 minutes away. Comes out, I ask for an estimate. Tech says he'd call the distributor and call me that afternoon. Surprise, no call, no estimate. Is this even a legitimate company? Poor customer service. Guy was parked halfway into my driveway blocking me from pulling in. I asked if he was going to move his truck and was told no. Told me he was going to be 10 more mins. I told him that was fine but in the future he shouldn't block people's driveway. The guy then told me to fuck off. 24 hour emergency service was listed on Angie's List. Called ~5PM and call was forwarded to a generic voice mail greeting that phone ###-###-#### was not available. Called twice to make sure I had the right number and left a message to call back ASAP, but no response. Called again the next morning and they showed up late in the afternoon. Metro Door was much more responsive and since they answered the phone after my call to Brown and followed through the next day with a temporary fix before Brown arrived, they got the job for a the door replacement. read more

Doug Brown came to my house and repaired my garage door. He suggested I do more work on the door to ensure it's life span. When he was finished, he told me the system would run well for a long time. About a month later, we called him back for a separate issue. He told my spouse (when I was not there) that the entire system was a piece of crap and we should replace the entire thing. I later told him we couldn't afford the work but that the issue we had called for originally still needed attention. He told me that the part had failed but that Genie didn't sell that part separately and that we needed an entire new center rail and the charge would be over $200. I called Genie this morning and the part I need is indeed sold separately for about $20 which they didn't charge me for because it was under warranty. I just had to pay for shipping. Needless to say, I won't be using Brown again. He was supposed to be here this morning, but blew me off. I called him and told him about my call to Genie. He didn't offer an explanation.
