He spent a lot of time schmoozing me about family and everything both before diagnosing and before offering repair options. He told me he would figure out the problem and he would need some time so I left him in the garage. The problem was simple actually...a broken spring. He could have given me this basic information in 10 seconds. Instead he took the next 30 minutes to completely disassemble the garage door. Then he told me the rollers should be replaced. I think it was like $200 for these. I found out later you can buy them on Amazon for $25. And he told me multiple other parts he would recommend replacement on. I really don't think the recommendations were necessary after reading about garage doors later...it was just overselling services. And it's harder for a customer to say no to things when their door parts are on the floor. When I resisted getting new rollers, he told me it might be fine to do that. But he told me (and he knew I might be selling the house soon) that we might be moving out and then the garage door might break and get stuck on our last day moving out, and that what be unfortunate. WHAT??? The options for replacement parts follow the model of offering a reasonable replacement for cheap (not really cheap), something moderately priced, and something premium. All the options (looking at things later) were overpriced. I was surprised at the bad service given all the great Google reviews. I found out later by experience that the company approaches customers asking if they had a good experience and then filters/directs reviews this way. I would give my experience 1 star, but my wife makes the point that the technician did do the repair and did it the same day, so I'll be generous with 2 stars.
