Opt for a scoop or three, a banana split, or a milkshake. I've also never seen a PRETZEL ice cream cone before - but Brown's cow has it! The retro vibes are eclectic, and the decorations are fun to peruse. I was a big fan of the mobile toy train above the entrance! This is a solid option for my trademark "Ice Cream For Dinner." They never miss! Never! All the flavors are to die for, but I always find myself going back for 1) mango 2) pistachio 3) caramel. Their ice cream is creamy & has the perfect amount of sweetness. Everything is reasonably priced and you get such great quality for your buck. Only issue is that sometimes I forget to bring cash and they only accept cash. So keep that in mind! Brown Cow yogurt has been our family's favorite for decades. Recently my wife had several unexpired yogurts show signs of fermentation. I was surprised until this morning - 2 recently purchased yogurts with unexpired dates knocked me for a loop. Called the company which also manufactures Stonyfield yogurts - company rep explained that it sounds like fermentation issues due to distribution - didn't seem that interested in looking Into this- oddly the yogurts was purchased in the same Wholefood store in NYC . Brown's Cow is a small ice cream shop with seating for 12 inside and about 6 curbside outside. They carry a variety of Bassett ice cream flavors. The smell of fresh made waffle cones delight you as you enter. The store was clean with nostalgic mementos all over. The young lady at the counter was very nice. I did not try and ice cream or sundaes but opted for a milkshake instead. The milkshake was very good and a decent size at $6.50. The store is cash only so make sure you have cash before ordering. There were many ice flavors which made it hard to choose and I wanted to try something I don't normally get so I chose pistachio. It was a great ice cream, but I do with the nuts were chopped instead of whole. There are about four tables with four seats, but there's only a few feet in between the counter and the tables which makes it hard to maneuver. The register is on the opposite side of the entrance so it's a bit tough to get out of the place when there are more customers coming in. An okay place to get a frosty treat. Personally, I don't find the Bassett's ice cream they serve anything special. It's a typical commercial ice cream that uses guar gum, xanthan gum and soy lecithin to substitute for milk fat. Premium ice cream should be limited to milk, cream, sugar, egg, and a natural flavoring. And if you aren't serving premium ice cream, you can't be a great ice cream parlor. Basically you're paying to have standard store brand ice cream scooped into a cone or dish. Might be the best Phoenixville has to offer, but nothing all that special. Even a chain Hagan Daz would offer a better scoop. But, you could do worse. Also, Brown Cow is closed from around mid-October until May. Also, Cash Only (so not always convenient on a whim; suburbanites so seldom carry cash these days). read more

In all honesty, I am a regular at Brown's Cow, but I thought I'd share why I think it's one of the reasons I love Phoenixville. They have the best ice cream, wonderful atmosphere, and the friendliest staff. Warren, the proprietor, is an antique collector and amateur local historian. He has wonderful things on the walls and in the windows. He is very generous with explanations, stories, and smiles poking out from under his bushy mustache. :-) The outdoor benches and tables are nice on pleasant evenings.
