So when we came to Myrtle Beach for our family vacation one of the things I really wanted to try was some great authentic whole hog Carolina BBQ. This is the place. I remember seeing Scott's come up on a few shows I had watched and I also saw Rodney on a few YouTube videos, so I was excited to try it out. There's a lot of history here. The staff here are all very welcoming and super friendly. The young women behind the counter were all very helpful. For food we went with the bbq plate, rib plate, and chicken plate. All of the meats were tender and delicious. In this region of Carolina the sauce is primarily a vinegar pepper sauce which I really enjoyed. The tables are set up in the perfect spot, right outside the hanger where they cook the meats... so all the delicious smells from the smoke and meats come wafting through. It's a great experience. My hats off to the staff and family for all their hard work and dedication to the craft. The foods delicious and made with love. I highly recommend checking this place out if you're looking for some great whole hog bbq. Thanks again!

The front of the sign reads, "Burrows's Service Station. This significant cultural and architectural example of a 20th-century country store was built in 1937 by Theron Burrows (1910-1973) when U.S. Hwy. 521 was finished from Georgetown to Manning. A combination grocery and gas station with family living quarters on the second floor, it was affiliated with Esso (now Exxon) and had the motto "we serve the needs of the neighborhood."" Burrows's Service Station sold not only staple goods, fresh meat, and produce, but also clothing, farm supplies, hardware, feed and seed, and automotive products and parts. Schuler's is a buffet style barbecue and all you can eat. Their pulled pork is their best meat. I wasn't really impressed with their ribs though. Don't get me wrong, the were pretty good but I certainly wasn't blown away. Their fried chicken is good but again not much different from most buffets in South Carolina. Their collards are nice and they do offer hash. If you're thinking corn beef hash, it's not that. It's a BBQ or liver hash and it's definitely an acquired taste. I usually put it over rice if I get it. Hash was highly popular in South Carolina for many years. It can't hurt to try it as Schuler's is actually pretty good. Not my favorite barbecue in the area but it's cool place with great people.

We had such an experience recently at McCabe's BBQ in Manning, South Carolina. Driving north on I-95 from Jacksonville, my wife declared, "I want some barbecue for lunch." As she was driving I was tasked with finding a place where we could dine. Using Yelp, I first found a different bbq restaurant. Got great reviews. Served bbq. Yep, met all of the requirements. Yet some fellow Yelpers stated that it was only serving food to go. Nope. We need to sit and eat! Hence we ended up at McCabe's. Thank the heavens. The food heavens. It's a small unassuming place in Manning. I have no idea what else may be in Manning. Look, I didn't even know Manning was a place before today. Trust me. Stop in Manning. The food is served buffet style, but the incredibly friendly staff actually puts the food on the plate for you. We each had the all you can eat dinner. Because why not? There's lots of side choices, I had the "dirty" rice with hash on it. Honestly I can't tell you what's in the hash or how the rice is made, but it was amazing. The collard greens are some of the best I ever had, and the slaw, while a bit sweet for my taste, was still really good. There were also yams, okra, green beans, cabbage and stewed tomatoes. I don't think you could go wrong with any of them. The pulled pork is phenomenal. On the table is Carolina bbq sauce (vinegar based. Not for everyone but i enjoy it). There is also fried chicken. Ok, I thought, I'll try it just to be nice. Holy Cow. Unbelievably good fried chicken! Get it. The drinks are limited to tea (sweet and unsweet), lemonade and water. That's fine though because the food is so good! Overall it was a fantastic experience, a great find and a place I highly recommend. Thank you food gods!

After leaving church today, my children and I went to Brown's Bar-B-Que in Kingstree for Dinner. This had to be the biggest mistake ever! After paying $37 for buffet, this elderly Caucasian Man sitting behind the counter tells Parish to monitor the amount of food she fixes and don't get more than she's going to eat. (She only had rice on her plate when he made this statement, not to mention, I've PAID for BUFFET). When I put my plate of food down on our table, I notice they're flies flying around. Therefore, I placed a napkin over my plate while I went to fix my Lemonade. When I returned to my table and started to eat, I notice the same man is standing up talking to one of the waitresses pointing at me. Naturally I wanted to know why you're staring at me and my children, pointing at our table. When I asked was there a problem, he made the comment that I couldn't take any food out of the restaurant. When I asked him what made him think I wanted to take food out of the restaurant (I'm clearly sitting at the table with a fork in my hand eating AND I don't have a take-out plate) he responded that he had problems in the past with people taking food out of the restaurant who didn't pay for take-out. I have no idea why my children and I fitted the "PROFILE" of someone who wanted to "TAKE" food out of the restaurant.(food I've paid for) When I requested a refund after receiving HORRIBLE customer service from him and some other lady that was angry when I asked were we singled out because we were black, they threatened to call the police and refused to give me a refund! After me and my children were HUMILIATED .. PROFILED...THREATENED TO HAVE THE POLICE CALLED ON US....AND TARGETED/STARED AT/MONITORED for getting food from a buffet I paid for....I was finally given my money back! I am glad we stopped here! Note, they are open Thursday through Saturday. My rating is based solely on the BBQ since we grabbed a sandwich to go. This is a wonderful looking place, tiny, and take out only. It is unique. There are just two rooms, and a I believe a pit room out back. When you walk in, you are in a small room and one wall has an open window to the kitchen, the order window. That's it. The kitchen is not a commercial looking one, but to me the type of small stove, fridge, countertops and cabinetry you'd find in a 70's apartment. As I walked in, a man probably near 80 was leaving and asked what he had and it was the chopped BBQ. He said "the best there is." The man taking my order was Rabbit. He was extremely friendly and welcoming. I asked how long they'd been there and he said just a few weeks. We talked for a few minutes. There was only one other person there, a woman in the kitchen and unfortunately I don't recall if he said that was his wife or not. But she was putting together orders on a small island in the center of the small kitchen. The smell of the meat and sauce was great. On the kitchen counter was a sleeve of napkins, plastic utensils, and loaves of white sliced bread. On the island was pulled pork in aluminum trays that looked like it had just been pulled off the bone, steam and good aromas rising. I got a chopped BBQ sandwich with slaw to go. She piled the Q on and added homemade slaw. The meat was very, very moist, pulled and not chopped to pieces like some places, so it retained all the nice juices. It was a little peppery with a little vinegar base, and smoky. The slaw is a green slaw but unique. It is not mayonnaise-ish at all, but chopped crisp fresh cabbages and pepper. What is unusual about it was that it had chopped pickle in it which added a little vinegar flavor as well, and the crunch it added was really nice. All this was was piled on basic sliced white sandwich bread. I've not seen that in a very long time. The portion was huge. They put it in a styrofoam container and they were one of fewer places now that put plastic utensils and napkins in the bag without you having to ask. The fork is needed since there was so much meat it was overflowing the bread. This is a great stop if you are in the area or a BBQ junkie like me on the hunt for good places. Give them a try. I really enjoy the food and the people. The best I ever had, no, but I really liked the flavor, the atmosphere and friendliness of the owner, the look of the place, and the way they served it. I will be back to try the brisket - looked good and gets great reviews!

They explained they were given me 2 breast because they were small. When I finally got home 50miles away, I couldn't wait to try the chicken, according to Jeremy it is the best. I opened the box and to my surprise it was two cut off backs of the breast( I had seen whole breast in buffet and couldn't figure out why I was given these backs) After tasting the chicken it was so salty it was like they took it off some ones leftover plate because I can't see them selling this salty chicken on a buffet. If this is practice I would rather go to the schoolhouse bbq buffet which is up the street. The corn was good but very greasy. The pork was tasty but dry and the collards where good. They included 2 small cups of bbq sauce which tasted like mustard, which I didn't care for. After this experience I'm not really sure I would return to this place. Scott's bbq in Hemingway is still the tops in South Carolina but I was real excited about this place because of the convenience it is for my return home from Florida every month.
