Slabs is an absolute gem hidden in the Carolinas. The food is fabulous, the service is spectacular, and the log cabin house layout is the perfect setting for enjoying the scenery with your meal. We ordered what felt like one of everything. For the meats we had brisket, half rack of ribs, and a pulled pork sandwich. Everything was cooked to slow smoked perfection. Each plate came with two sides. We tried them all and rank them as follows: coleslaw, baked potato, green beans, baked beans, baked potato salad. For dessert we had a toffee cookie and the nana puddin. Their banana pudding was the perfect dessert to end the meal. Would definitely return to bring home a full tray of this delicious treat. I personally loved the layout of the venue. You enter and find a large open seating area, off to the right is the queue for ordering and a little trinket store. Behind the main dining room is what was possibly once a wrap around patio that is now enclosed with cute chairs for two table seating. Then behind the main building is a smaller room with a long bench table that was perfect for our larger family size. They also have an outdoor patio area that would be ideal in better weather conditions. The backyard has a pond and it was great to look out for birds and wildlife while dining. Every once in a while, you find a little BBQ joint that reminds you why food is supposed to be an experience--and Slabs BBQ is one of those places. The Austrian and I went a little overboard, because apparently restraint has no place at a BBQ joint. We started with a smoked pork chop so enormous it was practically competing with his bubble head, then shared the BO JUNIOR--beef brisket, half a rack of ribs, pulled pork, beef sausage, and a pint of bacon-smoked beans. We also added the baked potato salad and smoked turkey because, well...we were already committed to the cause. Everything was smoky, tender, flavorful, and clearly prepared by someone who actually understands BBQ. And I have a pretty high bar when it comes to food. Then came Barbara's homemade banana pudding. Oh. My. God. Creamy homemade pudding, real bananas, and a beautiful meringue topping. This isn't the boxed pudding and Nilla Wafers I grew up with. This is banana pudding elevated to an art form. Quite honestly, it may be the best banana pudding I've ever tasted. And I have a little history with the pitmaster--I've known him as a supplier of blueberries and honey for my restaurant and as one of my best customers. So I already knew the man had good taste. Brought a camper on a short side trip and ended up in Lake City, SC...yelp pointed out a BBQ restaurant here that was beyond yummy! Our first visit and they didn't disappoint! The ribeye was awesome! The brisket was to die for! And my wife said her pulled pork was great! And let's not forget the homemade desserts! We will definitely be back! The ribeyes are only available on the first Saturday evening of the month. Pulled pork, brisket, pork chops, ribs and much more available all the day. A religious experience! by the time I got here the ribs were all sold out but I'm a huge fan of brisket and WOWWW did this have incredible flavor! I asked for some from the fattier part too and it was absolutely juicy fall apart in your fingertips delicate! i've eaten it all the big name barbecue spots in the state (and MANY in Texas when I lived there) but boy I have to say this is my favorite. Of ALL of them!! don't even get me started on the sides. The beans. I guarantee you will not have better beans anywhere. These are on an entirely different level I didn't know existed. My wife and I shared six slices of brisket, a small lump of potato salad and another of coleslaw and one ice tea. All were quite good. The tab with tax was close to $40. My wife went to the self serve area to pour the tea and there were no cups. She asked the cashier for a cup and was told a cup is $2.50 additional! WHAT??? Asked for the fatty cut and man it was like delicious meat cotton candy the way it melted in my mouth. The sausage was a surprise also because it had wonderful chunks of gooey cheese melted in it. We got the Bo jr... best BBQ in the state... & beyond! Top 3 of all time for me. Definitely recommend the Bo jr bc it gives you a sampling. I'm typically a brisket gal & don't prefer pork but the ribs & pulled pork were good. Brisket was still my favorite and the random beef sausage was also really good. We came across slabs from Google recommendation while driving back from Orlando to NYC. It was the best meal we had and our kids all had a blast. Brian and Barbara were so friendly and amazing, the food was soooo good, the place was amazing, it was just a magical night! We wish we were staying longer in SC so we can come back more often. Worth the drive! Drove about 40 minutes to get carry out from Slabs and it was well worth it! The Bo (Ribs, pulled pork, brisket, and smoked sausage) proved a wide variety. The meat was well smoked with a dry-rub, allowing full flavor to come through (unlike so many places that serve their meat swimming g in sauce). The Bo will feed our family of three for two-three meals easily. Beans were very flavorful, but not spicy at all ( perhaps a bit too sweet for my preference, but great for those who like tomato based sweeter beans). Cole slaw was fresh and crisp, and the baked potato salad was awesome. Would love to describe the apple pie and cheesecake, but it's in the fridge for later after gorging ourselves! I had the beef brisket and my husband had pulled pork. Both meats were tender and had good flavor. I got the smallest portion (3 slices). Huge slices. Had to take half home. My baked beans had more tomato than I liked, but they let you try any side before you order. They have a no tipping policy, but I would of tipped! Friendly and fast service.
