It's good for weekend or holiday celebrations~ but it can get packed and you might have to wait for a table. Also they make all their bread in house so it's fresh and really delicious. If you're a fan of sourdough, plenty of their dishes also come with sourdough bread instead of your typical factory white bread. Great brunch spot. Very clean & well maintained. Came here with my girls. Had a lavender honey latte it was great would get it again. My Steak omelette wasn't the best, meat was very tough wouldn't get that again. Kids had the pancakes off the kids menu a little dry to my liking but kids ate it. Support local business! I have been here a few times, and I have to say this is my go-to for a few reasons. The staff is wonderful and helpful.. The produce is locally grown, and the eggs are farm fresh and it shows in the food they prepare. Anything from coffee to breakfast, pastries, burgers, salads and even poke bowls. When one of their employees questioned this practice, they were reportedly told that tips should go to the business. This employee also experienced reduced work hours after speaking up and was subjected to verbal and physical treatment that was less than respectful. If you choose to dine here, please be aware that your tips will go directly to the owner, not the server. The owner is also known to closely supervise and direct staff, often in a way that can be perceived as overly controlling. Similar practices may be in place at the owner's second location, Dan Zai on Route 22 in Green Brook, NJ. We brought our 1.5 year old and the staff was extremely sweet with him. They brought him baby sized eggs, sausage, and cookies on a little baby plate as well as a sturdy sippy cup with a straw. I visited Brown Sugar on February 14 for the first time and loved the décor and presentation of the food. I ordered a mocha and breakfast sandwich, and my partner ordered French toast with cinnamon apples. My mocha tasted bad, so I politely asked to switch it and was given an orange juice instead. The issue started when my partner tasted the apples he took one bite and felt they tasted old, so we asked to have them removed from the bill since they were barely touched. The server spoke to her manager, who told us the apples couldn't be taken off because we had already switched a drink, meaning we were expected to pay for something we didn't eat or like. The manager then argued with us in front of the whole restaurant. After I refused to pay unless the apples were removed, she eventually took them off but rudely placed the bill across the table. Because of how the situation was handled, we left a zero-dollar tip. As we were walking out, the manager yelled across the diner, accusing us of being racist and saying, "So you're not going to leave a tip? It's because we're Asian. You're racist. Don't come back here." The situation had nothing to do with race it was about the food quality and the disrespectful way we were treated, which turned what should have been a simple fix into a very uncomfortable and embarrassing experience. read more

The Japanese souffle pancakes are not Japanese souffle, i was very disappointed. The title is misleading. They were more like a cake with no toppings, there was some type of buttery cream and maple syrup and strawberry jam on the side. The jam did not pair well. The "pancake" itself is too plain and dry. I was very disappointed in my meal. When I asked about the ginger tea, my server told me there was no sugar in it, yet it clearly had a lot of honey in it. Also, my fiance was excited to order the Dalgona coffee he had seen online, but was told it was for members only. I asked how to become a member, and was told to speak to a manager.. I find it very odd that 1) employee is not facilitating/promoting the memebrship, i.e. saying let me get my manager for you or handing me a flyer 2)an establishment would make a members menu. We are 25 minutes from the place and we're meeting friends. At this point the exclusivity is preventing a really cool item from being sold. We would have paid extra to get the coffee.
