I love my new brows! Back in the 90s, when Christina Aguilera was topping the charts and skinny eyebrows were all the rage, I decided to pluck mine into oblivion. Little did I know at the ripe age of 12, that my eyebrows would never grow back... So I've been drawing them in every day for the last decade. But a few months ago, a friend of mine, told me about a relatively new procedure called microblading that I should check out. I had been interested in permanent make-up but the darker tattoos I had seen never looked natural. Microblading, however, is semi-permanent and showed individual hairs that were extremely real looking. I searched Yelp and found Denise at Browistry placed right at the top. Because I knew very little about the process, I was nervous to sign-up without more info. Denise offered to give me a free consultation so I could ask all of my questions before officially deciding. Because she's so amazing and sought after, her nearest date for a consultation was about a month and a half away. But because I wasn't in a huge rush, I had no problem with the wait. The consultation was amazing. Denise put me at ease and showed me what I could expect for my own brows. I chose to move forward with the procedure. Her next opening was three months away. Once again, I wasn't in a rush, so this was not a problem. It's worth waiting for the best! But I did tell Denise that I lived nearby and if she had any cancellations, to please let me know. Well, about a week and a half later, I got a text from Denise on a Saturday afternoon, and because of a last minute cancellation, I had my appointment the next day at noon. A good place to start this review: the fear/panic/apprehension we face when we are trying to find the right place to have someone tattoo your FACE! I thought: Maybe I shouldn't, maybe this is a mistake. Maybe I'm better off drawing them on for the rest of my life. What if I hate it? What if it hurts? I can't believe I haven't reviewed Denise!! I had a consultation with Denise in April 2018. At the time microblading still was not very popular in San Francisco and I had even thought about flying down to LA or New York to do it. After following many people on Instagram and on YouTube in reading reviews on many different artists, I finally decided with Denise. Even though her prices were more expensive, she seemed to be the most meticulous. After my initial consultation with her I was so impressed. She was incredibly patient because I was so nervous about choosing an eyebrow shape and unsure about what I wanted. But she busted out her pencil and protractor and literally calculated a good shape and angle for my brow. We also tossed around ideas for different shades of brown that would match my black hair since I didn't want a harsh dark brow. After this, she even tested some of the numbing cream on a different part of my body to make sure that I wasn't allergic. I really appreciated this step because honestly that's one of my unreasonable fears - having my body reject a tattoo or piercing! On the day of the procedure, I felt comfortable and in good hands. Her voice is so soothing and her demeanor is so calm. A few hours later, I was done and two weeks after, my brows looked natural, and I still get compliments all the time (from my friends who knew what my brows looked like before). I was really hoping that the look of their website was an indication that they would get me. Usually I shy away from anything more than surface cosmetic procedures like waxing or facials, so having something permanent done in such an obvious place is a little nerve racking. After my initial consultation with Denise, I was a lot more comfortable and really felt like she understood me and my style - something that I didn't get from others I talked to. I wanted as natural of a look as possible in a shape that follows my own and is. No judgments, but I'm someone who uses makeup as an enhancement, not a definition. Prior to the appointment, Denise made sure that I was aware of how to prep and gave me a cheat-sheet as well as answered all of my questions. Like everybody else, my eyebrows were overplucked (my mom thought my thick bushy brows didn't look very feminine), so at a very young age, she would pluck/threat them for me and I continued until they were so thin that it was a pain to fill in every morning. After reading about microblading, I decided to take the plunge. Denise is very sweet, kind and personable. From the moment we met, we hit it off immediately. Denise is amazing! Like everybody else I used to overpluck my eyebrows, and now there are some spots where it just doesn't grow anymore. I emailed Denise because I wanted to get a consultation, and she was so kind to get me in on the week I was visiting San Francisco. Denise is very sweet, kind and personable but most important she knows her stuff. I love the fact that she explained everything in detail before doing anything to me, so I understood what was going to happen and what my expectations should be. After the microblading she texted me to follow up on my eyebrows and how they are looking. I love that about her and how she always goes above and beyond. The first time I went to get my eyebrows microbladed, I knew what shape I wanted and Denise drew them in first before microblading them. She then numbed my eyebrows so I didnt feel anything during the procedure. A few days later they started to peel a little but after 10 days they looked amazing. I love the way my eyebrows came out. They look so natural, I dont have to put make up on them anymore! Now, I always get compliments about how perfect my eyebrows are and people are always asking me where I get them "waxed" since they look so real. This review is long overdue, though I can say with certainty that a full year after having my brows done by Denise, they still look incredible and have made my life so, so much easier! I have A LOT of brow hair... and I used to spend entirely way too long trying to keep up with them, shaping them and getting them as close to even as possible. I am so grateful for Denise, as she has given me the gift of beautiful, low-to-zero maintenance brows. I wake up each morning and can leave my house without touching them... I don't even think about them anymore... they're just done! The actual procedure was painless (she does a great job of numbing you :)) And everything from start to finish was easy. Time flew by while she was micro-blading my brows, as Denise is extremely easy to talk to and really she's just wonderful person all-around. I'm looking forward to my touch up when the time comes, though I'm sure it will still be a few months before that even becomes necessary. Denise is extremely talented and I would not trust another soul with my brows the way that I trust her. They are beautifully shaped, but natural looking. If you have never had your brows micro-bladed before, please please know that it is a (short) process, but a process nonetheless. So just. TRUST. her :) You'll love them immediately after they're done (day-of) but if you've never had them done before, the days to follow can be scary as they heal and do become quite dark. This is completely normal part of the process with micro-blading, and I can assure you that they will fade to your ideal shade. Denise was wonderful with messaging me to reassure me and ensure that I was happy with the results. Just trust her, because I promise you, you can. You will love your brows once they heal and you'll forget what life was like before you had them done. I got my eyebrows tattooed with Denise, let me tell you, THEY'RE AMAZING! My eyebrows were very thin and bare looking. For years I was thinking about how I wanted to fill my eyebrows, to make them look fuller and thicker, but didn't know if I wanted to tattoo them or not. I then started to search around a tattoo artist and found out that there are different techniques. I decided on microblading. Going online and choosing an artist was very difficult, but when I contacted Denise she was very fast to response and gave me a really comfortable and warm welcoming feel. I am five weeks out from my first microblading session and am 100% happy. I was most scared about the healing process, but it was no big deal. I followed Denise's cleaning regimen (distilled water and soothing ointment that she provides). I would suggest planning so that you're not at any major events/weddings for the first two weeks. Moderate scabbing and peeling days 5-10. Looking good by day 14. Now my brows are filled in and shaped to perfection. And best of all they look completely natural! After making this investment, I am extra careful with my skincare routine (avoiding direct acids on the eyebrow area) and using daily SPF. I can't wait for my touch-up appointment in August. My 'brows are back! I can actually leave the house with NO makeup. I went to Denise to get microbladed, and I swear life is so easy now. Anyone with little to no eyebrows can relate. I have blonde/brown hair, so finding a semi to permanent solution to my 'brow problems that looked natural was reeeally difficult.
