Betty is the best! I've been eyeing Brow Theory for awhile. I ended up going somewhere a little closer the very first time I got my brows done and the color just didn't stick. So a year later when it was time to get them done again I just decided to go to Brow Theory like I've wanted for awhile. I made an appointment with Betty for April and then COVID happened. The upside is I wasn't seeing people anyway. The studio was really good about reaching out for rescheduling. The appointment got moved a few times because of the COVID regulations but I finally went in July when they were allowed to open. I wasn't extremely picky about the shape I wanted (honestly I naturally have no brows so I trusted Betty on a shape that would work for my face). She did such a great job. And I'm not sure if it's because I had my brows done before but the healing process was also so much easier this time around. The scabbing/peeling wasn't as bad. And my brows were healed in about 7-8 days! To this day I still don't fill them in at all (I also haven't put make up on in 6+ months bc of COVID) and they still look great. My only recommendation when you schedule your appointment is to consider that you can't work out and shouldn't sweat excessively. Of course when I had my appointments it was right before July 4th and Labor Day during heat waves. But it is what it is and I'm glad my brows are done :) The studio is also really cute. It's clean, and I felt safe during my entire appointment. The studio is located upstairs in a big shopping center, plenty of parking (and good food nearby). I also met Lisa when I was there. Just wanted to swing by and drop a long overdue review for Lisa! I have my annual appointment coming up this Friday, and this would be my 4th visit (maybe 5th, can't remember). I'll try to find my before/after and touch up photos to add to the review, but I just have to say I am SO pleased with her amazing ability to transform your brows into shapes that fit your face! She is the wizard of perfect shapes that match your face! I don't know about you guys, but when I was young (and dumb) I was a tweezer happy girl who tried to shape her own brows in Jr High, which ended up leaving me with no hair and only half my brows in tact. And brows take FOREVER to grow back, so I had to draw my eyebrows in all. the. damn. time. Needless to say, the day I pulled the trigger to get my brows done was one of the best decisions of my life. Lisa drew a couple options (one on each eyebrow) and would ask how I like them. They were both really good so I had trouble picking (that's how good she is). She has a knack for drawing eyebrow shapes that enhance the aesthetics of your face. I truly regret not going sooner! My face is definitely NOT symmetrical, and she was able to give me shapes that looked so beautiful and fitting! I can't rave enough about how much I love my brows by Lisa! If you're wondering about the pain, I am the biggest baby when it comes to needles or any pain in general. I definitely asked for the numbing cream, and Lisa was really great about feeding off your reaction/vibe on how long she goes on the needle. It does hurt, but she would talk to me to take my mind off of it. As for the price, it IS pricey, but you get what you pay for and she does an excellent job. Tips: -DON'T chicken out & forfeit your appointment! I'm super lucky I got mini pep talks from friends who got their brows done & am so glad I didn't cancel my appointment. -Shampoo your hair before your appointment, day of, trust. I was paranoid I would ruin my brows so I legit didn't shampoo for 5-6 days. -DO ask questions and have an idea of what you want. Lisa is great at drawing in brows and choosing a good color, but you should also know what you want & not soley depend on her. -Be realistic with your expectations and be very patient after the tattooing, Before: -I asked multiple people about getting their eyebrows done and asked about tips and the healing process. DO your research! Lisa is amazing and I know a few people who went to her, that's why I decided to follow through. It took me 2 years to finally book, and I booked it MONTHS in advance so I could continue being creepy and stalking Lisa's page and just researching about the procedure/process. I eventually put my deposit & my appointment was set. Days leading up to my appointment: -WHEW! I almost canceled and was panicking. I googled "eyebrows gone wrong," "why you shouldn't tattoo your eyebrows" and a bunch of other nonsense stuff. I'm nuts. Anyways I don't recommend you do this. The day of: -The studio is in the parking lot of Mitsuwa, upstairs in the pretty new looking building. I was a little early so I got offered water and read about what to expect. Lisa and her staff were very friendly and before I knew it, she drew in my eyebrows and tattooed them in. Everything was happening so fast I couldn't back out. I asked Lisa a lot of questions and she answered all of them and was very patient. Lisa was very calming and made me feel confident in my decision to tat my brows. Her process is NOT microblading it's semi permanent make up/powder look. The pain wasn't bad & within two hours I went home and the googling started again... After: It's going to be dark!!! There is no way around this. I am that crazy client that took a week off because I couldn't go out with dark eyebrows. HAHAHA. Long story short, I actually went out & it wasn't that bad. It's more you feeling self conscious & people don't even care how dark the brows are cuz they look AMAZING haha. Anyways, I googled everyday during the healing process. I wanted to make sure I was taking care of them correctly and I did not want them to get infected. I followed all the directions and I had a great experience with the healing process. Took my fiance here for her first annual renewal brow touchup. Whatever that means lol. Dont know much about brows so im rating/reviewing based on the perspective of someone waiting for their fiance to finish up while in the waiting room. Couch: very comfortable and offered excellent support. The couch material holds in heat so my back is uncomfotable. The positioning of the couch faces outside so this prison doesnt feel like im actually trapped. Score: 9/10 Air conditioning: icy cold, perfect considering it is about 100 degrees out today. This review is for Vivian - who also works at Brow Theory with Lisa. I had been Lisa's client for several years now, ever since she worked at Jack Winn Salon in Newport. I have written a review for her in the past there as I had been very happy with the pricing, service, and overall results of my brows. My last session with Lisa was about 2.5 years ago. Fast forward to today - I live out of state now and was wanting a brow touch up. Found that Lisa had moved and started her own business (good for her!) but also that she was insanely hard to book now. Not only that, but her prices had sky rocketed... which is fine, it's all about supply and demand. But unfortunately I was only able to return to CA during my vacation time and Lisa was now booking 6+ months in advance. I was told that Vivian was another brow artist that had more availability and was a tad less expensive to book than Lisa. More importantly, she had appointments available during the week I planned on visiting CA. I booked my date/time with her and waited for my January appointment. On the day of my appointment, I was contacted and told that Vivian was running about 30 mins behind and they asked if I could show up later. I appreciated the call and was fortunate enough not to have anything else scheduled that day, so that was fine for me. I arrived exactly at 3:30pm (original appointment was for 3:00) and Vivian was still working on a client. I sat and waited until 4:15 before they were finally finished... Vivian finally came out and started working on my brows. She first asked if there was anything I wanted to change - shape, color, shading, etc. I told her that I wanted to keep the exact same color because I tended to dye my hair dark brown and the brow color I currently had (a very dark brown/black) was most complimentary to that.. Although my natural hair color is more of a medium brown. She agreed to what I was saying, so I thought that she understood what I wanted. She then colored my brows in with pencil until I was happy with the overall shape. Lisa also came out around this time and helped a bit with the shaping process, which I appreciated. Then I went back and got the actual tattooing done... I'll spare you the details of the tattooing. It was pretty much what I had expected and overall not uncomfortable. Vivian would stop every now and then to ask how I was doing, which I appreciated. However, after my brows were done, she gave me a mirror and they were not the color I had asked for! She made them more medium brown than the dark brown/black I had wanted... She said since I was so fair, it complimented my skin tone and natural hair color better. I understood why she did what she did... But then I had explained to her that I tended to dye my hair darker. Why even ask the client what they want if you're not going to listen?? If I do decide to dye my hair darker later, my brows may not match... Sigh. It is now 3.5 days post procedure and so far the healing process has been fine..the brow shape and color intensity is around what I was wanting and expecting. But again it is not the color I had asked for. This is the reason I'm deducting 1 star. I may update after the full healing process is complete if it ends up looking different... I would still go back to Brow Theory as the artists are really nice and well skilled. But I would caution clients to be very specific in making known exactly what you want... especially when you are paying a ton of money to have something semi permanent put on your face. Update: spoke with Lisa over the phone and she explained why Vivian tattooed a different color than what I was expecting. Her explanation made sense, but it would have been ideal to have this information before being shocked about the color of my brows not being what I had expected. Unfortunately, one brow is outlined in a more reddish shade than the other brow, even after the full healing time.. which requires me to still fill in a bit with pencil to make the color more uniform. I will likely have to go back for another touch up to try to have this fixed. read more

Where do I begin? I've been studying Lisa's work for years now, and STILL no one closes to her artistry. After decades of drawing uneven eyebrows and having "bad brow days" (yes, there is such a thing) - I've decided that it's time. I flew in from Chicago to get the work done by Lisa. As much as I thought I knew what I needed, I left it to Lisa to give me a couple different options as to what style would permanently be inked. She took her time (never rushed me). When it came time to ink, it was quick and relatively painless. I was worried that I'd look so goofy like the microblading work I'd seen before, but it looked totally normal and just PERFECT. Im fully healed now and LOVE the new look. I don't look so sick and pale first thing in the morning anymore. Don't just get it done by anyone. Go to Lisa @ Brow Theory. Lisa is booked all the way until mid 2016 and she's so busy she has an assistant to do her bookings/answer questions. That's insane. Fortunately, I only had to wait 3 months. She has left some spots open for touchups but the timeslots are on random dates/time and if you can't make it to one of the options, then forget about only paying $90 if you want the extended touchup within the 6 weeks. My suggestion to you is to make your touchup appointment at the same time as the initial appointment so you get the dates you want. FYI only contact and book her if you're absolutely ready and have access to the internet because you will have to put down a $50 deposit WITHIN 15 MINUTES or lose your place. I get that there has to be certain policies in place, but 15 minutes?! Lisa's business has skyrocked in the past year due to instagram exposure and her rates have increased because of it. It is very $$$ especially if you factor in tips and the additional touchup cost. For me it was worth it, but you got to do your research to make sure this is cost effective for you. Last tip: I noticed that Lisa does very distinct shaping. Take a look at the photos and you'll know what I'm talking about. I've gotten my semi-permanent eyebrow tattoo from Vivian about 3 times. The second of which was a free touch-up that came with my first consultation. So what had happened the first time I came in to get my eyebrows tatted was that I was not about to actually start because I was breaking out around my eyebrows and inside the hairs of my brows. Vivian took a look at my eyebrows and then called Lisa over to take a look. They both suggested I come back in 2 weeks because they didn't want to risk an infection if the pimples around my eyebrows were to pop. I was extremely disappointed because I had been waiting 2 months to get my eyebrows tatted. Of course there was nothing I could do about it. Fast forwarding 2 weeks, I had a pimple on my eyebrows when I came back for my visit but since that pimple was in the process of heeling, Vivian took me in and decided to just avoid that spot and work around that area. The peeling process was very prominent. As my eyebrows were slowing peeling, it looked even more unattractive. Good thing I worked at a restaurant at night so it wasn't so bad. In about a week, my eyebrows completely peeled and also shrunk. It was extremely light by the ways. During my second session, Vivian just reiterated that everyone's skin takes in ink differently, which is why there is a free touch-up for clients. She gave me my touch up and filled in that little gap because there wasn't that pimple on my eyebrows anymore, and everything was great! So the picture posted is of my 3rd session, which is about 3 months after my 2nd session. I decided to come back so soon because I planned on going to Hawaii and I wanted to be as dark as it could be. Sorry I was not able to find a before picture of my eyebrows but I do have pictures after I got my eyebrows tatted. The picture posted goes in order from the top left, to the bottom left, top right, and then bottom right. The top left photo is from the first day I got my eyebrows done. As you can tell, my eyebrows did turn a bit red. The shininess was just from the creme they had me apply to help the healing process (I think it was Aquafor). I had workin 2 hours that day so I actually took the Q-tip they provided me and dabbed the creme away so the shininess wouldn't be look so noticeable. After I got off of work, I just reapplied the creme. The bottom left picture was the same day I got my brows tatted but later in the night. As you can tell, the creme was wiped off so it just looked matte. The top left picture was 3 days after my session. It was already slightly pealing but it wasn't peeling so bad in comparison to the first time I ever got my eyebrows done. You can tell I had a small pimple growing underneath my eyebrows but that wasn't promblematic. The bottom right picture was 6 days after the first day. It looks really natural. I spent 6 months contemplating whether or not I wanted to get my brows done.. it seemed expensive and I was worried they would look fake. I think personal referrals are most trustworthy, so when my co-worker made an appointment with Vivian and when i saw how amazing her brows looked, I made an appointment. Vivian is truly an artist and she's really pleasant to work with. She gave detailed answers to all my questions (I always like to know what's going on) and she carefully outlined my brows until I was satisfied with the shape (prior to the semi-permanent ink). She used a numbing spray to help ease the pain from the tattoo'ing, which made it feel like little bee stings (over and over again). The calming music and pillow under my legs made it feel less intimidating. I felt like Vivian was incredibly attentive and meticulous about the whole process and I appreciated that she often asked if i was okay. I was really happy with the shape once it was over! I started peeling after day 3 and by day 5 it has completely peeled off. I was really, really happy with the shape but i freaked out by how light my brows looked! I actually cried because i thought i had wasted my money.. but then a friend mentioned that some people's brows fade at first and then darken later. I was skeptical but then it was true... just 7-10 days or so i noticed that my brows darkened again. Today I had my touch up appointment (8 weeks after) and I was again really pleased with the service. Finally! I can actually say that I'm really happy with my brows! Betty did an amazing job! I've gotten my brows tattooed previously at other locations but I was never fully satisfied with them after the healing process. My brows would turn out thinner and lighter than I would expect a few weeks following the touch-up. It's been about a month after my touch-up with Betty, and my brows still look exactly how I want them to; darker, fuller, and the shape is perfect all the way to the ends. Betty was able to elongate my brows and correct its curvature to match my face properly. She also color corrected my brows to give it a more warm dark brown tone to match my skin and hair color perfectly. Betty listened to what I asked for and gave me suggestions when I needed them. Now, I don't have to draw my brows in anymore. I can finally stop shopping around for an eyebrow tattoo artist. Thank you for your work Betty! I will definitely be coming back. read more

I do not waste time writing negative Yelp reviews but I deemed it necessary to inform potential clients like myself. I made an appointment at Brow Theory well over two months in advance. I also gave them my credit card number 100usd to "hold" the appointment as requested. A week later two of my colleagues came to work unhappy with their results at Brow Theory. We measured their brows and both had one shorter row than the other (asymmetrical). They were disappointed. I began to have second thoughts. I decided to cancel the appointment and do more research (see how Brow Theory responded as well as compare other options). After all, there was no rush to do something permanent. I called three weeks prior to my appointment to cancel. I noticed my card was never refunded 100usd. I was certain the appointment was filled being that I cancelled three weeks in advanced and called back to inquire. The receptionist confirmed the appointment had been filled, however, my 100usd was not refundable. I found this policy to be unethical. I'm 100usd out and my two colleagues are trying to fix the permanent mistake on their face. LISA is awesome. I trust her completely and her brow expertise is unparalleled. I love that she makes sure you are 100% ok with her drawing before she begins tattooing and she takes so much time ensuring symmetry. I went in for my second annual brow touch up recently and while I was there went ahead and had her do my eyeliner as well. This review is long overdue. I've had my brows tattooed since 2009. I did it first in Taiwan and loved them. After a year, I tried an artist in Westminster and got underwhelming results. I was put off by that artist and it took me many years before I decided to try again. I first met Lisa about 3 years ago and she is now my holy grail eyebrow artist!! I had to wait several months to see her and she was more expensive than the other artists, but it was so worth it. I've since had 2 additional touch ups and will be going in for my annual soon. Lisa is reasonably priced when you consider the work. She's very experienced and has a great eye. My brows always look very natural and I get so many compliments. She takes "critique" well and really listens to what you want. My brows always last me more than a year but I generally get touch ups at 12-18 months for the pricing. I'm careful about exfoliants and anti aging products on my brows. If I didn't follow their touch up schedule, my brows could last me up to 2 years easily. Sooo worth the investment! Although I see her once a year, Lisa remembers me. She knows what I do for work and other little details. She is always very personable and easy to talk to. I highly recommend her and I will continue having my brows done here as long as she's around! read more

Lisa is the eyebrow goddess!! I have looked everywhere for someone to perfect my eyebrows. I made an appointment back in Oct/2015 for an appointment with Lisa for April/2016. You have options with other artists who have more availability, but I wanted to wait for Lisa. I have been following her instagram account since late 2014 and I finally took the plunge to get my eyebrows tatted. A few weeks before my scheduled appointment, the receptionist called to confirm my appointment. She also told me to review the pre-care instructions. At the appointment, Lisa took several pictures of my face and brows. And she drew on my brows with pencil to see how I wanted my eyebrows tatted on. She was very patient in drawing and framed them to my face perfectly. Next, she took me into the room where she would begin with the tattoo process. She sprayed some numbing on my eyebrows before she proceeded. I thought it the needle was tolerable. She began to tattoo and when she did the inner brow line, that's where it hurt the most. And after she did both brows, she led me outside where I would pay for the remaining balance. She gave me some vaseline and qutips with directions on what to do to take care of my brows. They peeled within a week and they were slightly on there and I loved it. Fast forward to 6 weeks later for my touchup and Lisa gladly made them a bit darker and I love them. I can literally roll out bed without having to draw them on! Can't wait for my yearly touch up with Lisa! read more

Back in October finally committed to getting my brows done by lisa and I'm so happy I finally went thru with it. After contemplating for basically the whole year and asking a million questions and saving up the money for them lol ( they def. aren't cheap, but totally worth it ) on a trip to CA I got them done. They were super accommodating for making time for my appointment and trying to work around my schedule because it was a pretty last min. decision and I was flying to CA from Japan just for a few days, but they were still able to squeeze me in. Really appreciated it since people on here are always talking about booking months in advance so I wasn't sure if they would be able to see me. I don't wear make up too often and god knows I can't draw my own brows in correctly lol. I had my brows micro bladed a few years ago and it faded a lot and left slightly light brownish streaks and I mostly wanted a more natural done brow and was hoping to get those brownish strokes covered up. Lisa was super helpful in helping find a shape and a size that I was comfortable with and she never rushes because she wants you to love them. The process itself wasn't really painful it was actually making my brows feel ticklish during the process lol it was really relaxing and the chair is really comfortable. Lisa was explaining to me that during the process of getting my brows done my skin around the brows was getting red as if the ink was red and explained to me that it could be because I take multivitamins daily and its basically blood rushing to it trying to heal itself quickly. They did look pretty red for a couple of days on some parts haha Lisa is really great at explaining the whole process and she does her best to give you what your looking for. She explained to me that the ink might fade a lot more since I wanted something lighter she didn't want to over do them because she would rather fill them in again on my touch up appt. then have them come out too bold. They did lighten and shrink a lot in size, but I do like them and I'm excited to get them touched up in a couple of weeks when I fly back to get them done. Super bummed because you have a time frame where you can come in for a touch up without having to pay , but since I wasn't able to fly back soon enough I do have to pay a touch up fee which isn't too bad , but try not to miss your touch up appt. in the time they tell you! overall really like them and a lot of the brown I had got covered up as well, so I'm happy and excited to go back in this month to fill them in read more

Let me start by saying, I have been searching for an eyebrow tattoo artist for several months now. Being a perfectionist, I wanted to be certain of where I was going to get my brows tatted. Brow Theory did not disappoint! I was able to book with Lisa within a week, thank goodness to a cancellation, or else I would've had to wait atleast until April/May. You do have to put a $100 deposit down, which goes towards your total. Lisa was so nice and informative and took her time to shape my brows prior to starting. Once we found the shape we both thought would be best, we started the tattooing process. A topical gel is applied to help with comfort. The entire procedure was tolerable. (FYI: the second brow will be a lot more sensitive, but is manageable. It tickles and makes you get the sensation of having to sneeze.) The entire tattooing process took about 40 mins, 20 mins per brow. The end product was great and I can't wait until my brows fully heal in a week! I am so in love I cant stop looking at my brows, It has only been 10 days since I had them done and everything peeled and looks even. I cant even describe what a wonderful job she did. I was very nervous to begin with since I've had many friends who went to a few well known brow artists in the OC area and had bad experiences. Vivian made me feel at ease and listened to me. She's not only a brow artist but she acknowledges your face shape and how your muscles move when your eyes are open and when they are closed. Amazing stuff! On top of her skills shes humble and that makes a true professional!
