He was polite, thorough, complimentary of his work crew and gave me a written estimate before he left - it took maybe 30-40 minutes. I liked that he didn't try to MANsplain things to me, or give me a bunch of useless info (like the other 2 reps from competing companies did). I finally received the other 2 estimates within a couple days and Fred Williams and Son was the most affordable, even with a HIGHER rated unit. We made arrangements to do the work on a Wednesday. Brad called me back and said the unit he quoted was on back order. I could wait, or upgrade to a more costly unit. I was immediately skeptical, because I am a single woman and have been given ridiculous quotes on everything from deck repair to new windows, plus I'm a buyer and contract negotiator by day, so I tend to think that salesmen are slippery and things are usually too good to be true. However, the upgraded unit met the criteria for an Energy Rebate from the utility company, so I would actually be paying LESS than the first unit he quoted. I asked for it in writing, to which Brad responded via text that they would honor the rebate. They showed up on time. Completed the work without issue. Clean cut, nice, respectable crew. My home is nice and cool. I got the rebate from Evergy. 10 year parts and labor warranty. I couldn't be happier. It was a pleasant experience.

I figured it needed to be replaced, but the tech did some maintenance to it and fixed it. I asked how much it would cost to replace it and he said it depends on many different factors of what you want and need but right now it's running good now. So, why replace it if it's running well? I agreed. When the A/C does go out, I'll get hold of United and have them come out and give me a bid for a new one along with a couple other companies. I was told United offered financing too which was nice to know. I have recommended United before and will continue to because the job got done quickly and professionally and done right the first time and that old A/C is still running well.

Avoid Hometown Heroes…read more I have now had two separate experiences with this company where I was quoted an enormous replacement job, only to have the problem resolved for a fraction of the cost. The first was my AC. I was told I needed an entirely new system and was quoted thousands of dollars. Thankfully, I called my dad, who is a contractor. He ended up having to tell their technician what part to replace. They replaced that one part for about $400, and my AC has worked like a dream ever since. It is ridiculous that I had to call my dad so he could tell the HVAC company I was paying what part needed to be replaced. Then I had an issue with my main sewer line. Hometown Heroes told me they would need to excavate and install a new main line and quoted me more than $15,000. I called Anthony Plumbing for a second opinion. They cleared my drain lines, scoped everything, and resolved the issue for about $400. That is a $15,000+ recommendation versus a roughly $400 solution. Everyone I dealt with at Hometown Heroes was very nice, but that honestly makes this more concerning to me. My experience has been that they operate more like salespeople than repair technicians. Both times, I was pushed toward an extremely expensive replacement when a much smaller repair or service solved the actual problem. I would especially caution women, homeowners who aren't familiar with HVAC or plumbing, elderly customers, and anyone who may not have the technical knowledge to challenge a recommendation like this. Please get a second opinion before agreeing to a major repair or replacement. Based on my experiences, I would never give Hometown Heroes my business again. Avoid at all costs.

I have never had any issues or repairs, but they come out and do my maintenance twice a year. Today I had a scheduled maintenance visit with Tara, and I can't say enough good things about her. She was not only professional and thorough, but she really took the time to go above and beyond in explaining things to me in a way that actually made sense. One thing that really stood out was how she walked me through how, why, and when to flush my water heater. She also let me know that they do plumbing too if I'd like help. Honestly, I had no idea this was even something I was supposed to be doing, and she didn't just mention it in passing she made sure to answer all my questions and explain why it mattered. Highly recommend them, and Tara!

I didn't appreciate the $2,000 in "stuff" that I was offered to buy, but, I haven't seen an HVAC company that doesn't do that. This was on a Friday morning. The problem didn't arise until my wife and I tried to take showers on Saturday. There was no hot water. Went down to check the hot water heather, which is next to the furnace. Instead of the dial being on "hot", it was on "pilot". How it got turned to pilot, I have no proof, but, I would imagine that the tech from Summit, either accidently, or for some reason on purpose, turned it to pilot. I sent a message thru the Summit HVAC website about what had happened. I got a call from the service manager on Monday. He said that there was no way, no possibility whatsoever, that his tech, in any way, shape, or form, could have moved that dial on the water heater. When I said "I guess it's a mystery", he said "sure is". But, he reassured me that Summit was still there to take care of me. I told him "that wasn't going to happen". I said I wanted out of the annual agreement and half my money back (I had paid the full $199). I got less back than I asked for, but, that is another story for perhaps another time. Needless to say, I do not need these people in my home. But, for everyone else, if you want techs that are infallible, and a company that will stand behind the infallibility of those techs, perhaps Summit HVAC is for you.

(See final resolution update) 6 weeks ago they came out to service my hvac system and signed me up…read moreon a service plan. I had a system failure during high heat advisory and called them but they could not get out until the next day. So, I called someone else who was able to make it out that evening. That company (Dad's) replaced the thermostat but also took off all the airflow grates around the system and they were filthy, which Buckner's service tech said on the report that he cleaned the coils. (See pics taken 6 weeks after Buckner's guy "cleaned" the coils!) Dad's cleaned the coils up and tested the system once the thermostat was replaced. They had to wait for the cleaning to dry out first but discovered that the unit was overcharged (400 and climbing at 86 degrees) due to there being too much coolant, so they had to remove some. This cost me $540 total for everything because Buckner's overcharged my unit with coolant (which their tech lied and said he did not add coolant - Note: I nor have I had anyone service or had coolant added to the unit for 3.5 years) Overcharging a unit with coolant, if left undetected, would have ruined my a/c unit which is only 5 years old. I'm not happy at all with Buckner's, and will be calling for a full refund and exiting their maintenance agreement. Update: I spoke with Buckner's service manager and the tech was supposed to take before and after pics of the coils to show they were cleaned, but did not take photos (shocker) but in his report he said he cleaned the coils. The report did not say anything about coolant being added. I have not added coolant in 3 summers and Buckner's was the first company I hired since buying the home 3 years ago, so how do you suddenly get excessive coolant? Anyway, he said he would give me a full refund for the maintenance service visit and the additional amount I paid to sign up for an annual cooling and heating agreement and we canceled the agreement, which I did appreciate. Second Update: 15 days after promised a FULL refund and I still had not received it, I called the service manager, Mark Dillan back who said he put in the refund for a different LOWER amount. It took a bit of conversation, but he finally agreed (again) to a full refund and that he would "expedite" it. Three days later, still no refund. Called and asked for accounting department and after being on hold for a bit, Pedro said she was not available, took my number and said HE would personally handle the expediting of the refund. We shall see. I will continue to edit this review until they finally do what they said they would do 18 days ago. THIRD UPDATE: After another 10 days have gone by, I had to call again. This time I spoke with Natalie who saw all of the notes from my previous calls and took a message for "Joe" another service manager. So here we are 28 days later and still no refund as of October 5th. I am now threatening to sue, call the BBB, whatever agency provides their licensing, and spread this review on any platform I can find. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY! They lie about what service they say they performed, took money for an annual service agreement that I have cancelled and have not refunded a dime of the $289 I paid. It did take at least 5 telephone calls to finally reach the person (Joe) who could help me. Apparently, another customer service manager input the refund into their computer incorrectly which is why it was not getting processed. It was still upsetting to know a service manager couldn't do his job correctly as well as the tech, but I will say that Joe was a complete pleasure to speak with. He was passionate about making it right and he did. That's the way customer service should be and Joe aced it. I wish I could say I would use Buckner's again but after that fiasco, I just can't. They still said the tech did not note that he added coolant but it makes no sense for there to suddenly, after 4 summers of no coolant added, that my unit was overcharging and I had to pay someone else to remove it (which I stood and watched being done. They removed our old unit and installed a new unit. They did great cleanup around the area. Had a really nice, lowkey experience on some furnace repairs from All 4 One. I debated between…read morewhich company to go with for too long before just calling them and getting on the books as my furnace was dripping a considerable amount of water heading into the winter. While it looks like they offer Request-a-Quote (score!) I ended up just calling them as I was out and about. They gave me a two hour window the very next day, then called before they showed up. The tech was the definition of efficient. Friendly enough, not much chit chat, just more or less there to look into things and get the job done. My only slight issue was just a few things that were lost in translation -- they had the address wrong, were not close on spelling my name right, and then the price. They told me they could fix the issue for $135 which I agreed to, then was a bit surprised when the bill was for $209 as the final bill included the parts & labor. No biggie and a very fair price for the tune up and replacement, just would've been nice to know the actual total. The total price did match up with my expectations, so no biggie, just worth noting as I feel like maybe they could automate their bookings/billing just a tad better. TL:DR; I appreciate how fast they were, how they diagnosed and fixed it, and the price point. I'd call them again if the need arises.
