I first had two HVAC technicians from two other companies check our system. One said the system broke down and was not working at all, and a new system had to be installed. The other said the compressor was leaking refrigerant, and either the compressor had to be replaced to or a new system had to be installed. Priced Right was actually the 3rd HVAC outfit I called to look at my furnace. My furnace is fine, but I just wanted to be preventative and have it checked over for peace of mind for the rest of winter. This was the week of the "Polar Vortex". So, I called KB Complete to check it out. KB comes out & well the CO levels on the exhaust were way high (500 when it should be under 100). Now, the CO inside the house was fine, it was just the exhaust vent. Still a concern. They said it's "probably" the heat exchanger (though the flame test was fine) but to diagnose it, it would cost so much I might as well buy a new furnace ($3500). I called Midwest for a second opinion. They came out and said, it probably is a problem between the heat exchangers, and it would cost so much just to diagnose it, you might as well by a new one. Estimate was also $3500. So, I was bummed out, having to buy a new furnace. I called Priced Right for an estimate. Jim comes out and said he didn't want the job because my furnace is in a tricky spot and it might take too long to do and he didn't want to do that to us. But then he said, "Honestly, I don't think anything is wrong with your furnace". He checked it over (just because he was there) and said he sees no indication of exchanger issues. He also was baffled that they could say it was exhanger issues without having looked at them. He goes outside and noticed the exhaust vent was blowing right into the intake valve. I fixed the exhaust direction and he re-tested the CO levels and lo and behold, the CO levels were back to normal. It was literally that easy to fix, and I do NOT need a new furnace. On Monday we woke up to a cold house. After a couple of reset attempts that did not restore heat, I knew I had to call for help. I did some research and found a few good options. The first heating company I called could not visit us for days. Since this was one of the coldest March weeks in many years, that would not work. Next I called Priced Right. The owner answered the phone and sent Paul to my house that morning. Paul did a thorough examination and determined and showed me that the inducer motor had failed. Since my furnace is 30 years old, the part was scarce, additionally a tornado had recently hit the part warehouse. So my options were a 2-3 week wait and a major investment in a 30 year old furnace, or replace the system. Paul did a great job walking me through the options. Whenever I buy something this expensive I get a second opinion. A second heating company visited and confirmed everything Paul had told me. He also walked me through options with this company. I am sure they would do a fine job, but the price was substantially higher and the functionality would be the same. The only hitch was that Priced Right was booked until next week. I talked with Jim, the owner, and since we were without heat he found a way to accommodate us and the new system was put in today. This was my first time using Priced Right. I chose them because I thought I needed a new furnace, and a number of their reviews mention satisfaction with service and price for replacements. I came home on a Friday night to a house that was 58 degrees. By morning it was in the 40's, and I called Priced Right first thing. Jim was here in about three hours, having completed two calls before mine. He called 30 minutes before he expected to arrive, and was very prompt. My furnace is 16 years old. A different company recommended replacing it and the a/c nearly two years ago, when they diagnosed a very expensive problem based on a high pitched noise (a bad ball bearing in a motor requiring the entire mechanism be replaced). I decided to let it go until it died. The noise was gone the following winter, and it worked fine until now. So Friday night into Saturday I feared the worst. But this time had nothing to do with that motor. Jim determined within minutes that my igniter wasn't working. He had the specific part on his truck because it's common to many Lennox heaters. Unfortunately he had to work pretty hard to replace it because of corrosion, and because my particular heater is poorly designed for repairs. I was impressed by his genuinely pleasant manner and attitude throughout the visit. And the price was great: a service call fee, a charge for weekend work, plus the part. He said my furnace was a good model, and should have a few more years in it. A/C went out at 9:30PM...Started looking up places to call and found Priced Right on Yelp. He was the only place that actually answered the phone and it was way passed normal business hours. I told him it wasn't an emergency and I thought I could wait it out over night as long as he could fit me in the next day. He said it shouldn't be a problem and took my number and said he would call with an ETA in the morning. By 10AM I was still waiting for him to call so I decided to ring him back because I was hoping to maybe go into work at noon. He said he had me on the list and it would be mid afternoon. He showed up around 2:30PM and I was please he was able to stop at all with less than 24 hours notice. Come to find out it was only a capacitor on my outside unit. One hour worth of work and a part it cost me $199. I was really happy we didn't have to spring for new A/C unit. He did say that my unit is aging (14 years old) and we should budget to replace it or at the very least keep a reserve for when it does finally kick the bucket. Initially, I thought this company deserved my positive review. However, it has only been one (1) year since I paid them over $500 to replace the fan in my A/C, and it has now failed again. I called them and requested a repair. The person I talked to (I believe his name was Jim Ferguson) started bickering with me about how long that fan's warranty should be honored. When we called back for a status 4 hours later, we stressed the medical issue. We were in need of replacing our 26 year old A/C and furnace. I took the time to get 5-6 competing quotes and Priced Right came in with a very competitive written offer which included 2 years of labor warranty (all competing quotes included only 1 year labor). Jim was very professional during the quoting phase and explained everything without trying to "oversell" us a system. We obviously went with Priced Right and scheduled an install date. Jim's team arrived promptly at 8am as he said they would. He and his team worked throughout the day until the job was complete (around 3pm) without taking a lunch break. I offered to buy them some pizza or sandwiches, but they declined. The work they did was outstanding. The area around system (both inside and outside) was cleaner when they left, than when they came. System install was done very professionally as if Jim was installing it in his own home. I am a stickler for details and it is obvious he and his team sweat the details. Once install was complete, Jim walked me through the entire install explaining everything and answering all my questions.
