I called Buckners to have them come take a peek, and service the unit (which was ~1.5yr old). They sent a new technician who did not understand the issue. They first thought the unit was low on refrigerant. They then overcharged the unit. They called to the office for a second opinion. They told me that the TXV was sized/not opening. I once again asked about the code on the front. They did not take a look at the code, which the definition is printed clearly on the inside of the furnace panel. They wasted four hours of my time, sent the new guy (with no support), overcharged my system, and recommended a repair which I did not need. I then received an email with a $619 dollar estimate for the labor (as parts were covered under the manufacturer's warranty). But don't worry, there's a cheaper member price! They have an offered "membership" you can pay for monthly to allow you a discounted cost on a repair you didn't even require. I asked why the price was so high, becuase it was a 1-2 hour repair, and they said they always estimate high in the case that it takes too long, we would not pay more. Ultimately that behavior only serves the business. I got a second opinion from a commercial HVAC tech, and he instantly looked at the code, connected a module to read the blower motor status, and recommended a repair. The total time to repair was around one hour. Ultimately, Buckners was a pretty good company early on, but after they were bought things seem much worse: - Scammy practices having a "member" price ... Labor price is inflated to push you toward a monthly subscription - Unexperienced technicians deployed without someone to back them up (this is really Buckner's fault, not the new guy) - Overcharging for simple repairs - Almost caused damage to my condenser compressor due to over pressurization - Wasted my time, and I ultimately was in a state of disrepair longer due to their incompetence The ONLY reason I post these experiences is to warn others who may not be aware of what's happening and have no idea how modern HVAC systems work. Good luck Buckners, I will NEVER call you again for a third chance.

In July, I called Buckners to come out and take a look at a furnace because I thought it smelled…read moreodd. The furnace is old and has a pilot light. The technician briefly shined his light at the furnace, without taking the front cover off, and declared that the furnace was too old to look at. He would not even attempt to diagnose, and instead said I needed a new furnace. Even though he refused to actually look at the furnace and diagnose it, he still charged me the $109 callout fee. I had told their office when I called to make the appointment that the furnace was old. They could've told me at that point that they do not work on old furnaces, but did not. Instead, they charged me over $100 for doing nothing. If your furnace is older, beware that they may do the same to you. Also, as an FYI, I called a different company who came out, took the front off, cleaned it up a bit, tested for CO, told me it was working just fine despite the age, and that the smell was just related to the pilot light and was no big deal.

He was polite, thorough, complimentary of his work crew and gave me a written estimate before he left - it took maybe 30-40 minutes. I liked that he didn't try to MANsplain things to me, or give me a bunch of useless info (like the other 2 reps from competing companies did). I finally received the other 2 estimates within a couple days and Fred Williams and Son was the most affordable, even with a HIGHER rated unit. We made arrangements to do the work on a Wednesday. Brad called me back and said the unit he quoted was on back order. I could wait, or upgrade to a more costly unit. I was immediately skeptical, because I am a single woman and have been given ridiculous quotes on everything from deck repair to new windows, plus I'm a buyer and contract negotiator by day, so I tend to think that salesmen are slippery and things are usually too good to be true. However, the upgraded unit met the criteria for an Energy Rebate from the utility company, so I would actually be paying LESS than the first unit he quoted. I asked for it in writing, to which Brad responded via text that they would honor the rebate. They showed up on time. Completed the work without issue. Clean cut, nice, respectable crew. My home is nice and cool. I got the rebate from Evergy. 10 year parts and labor warranty. I couldn't be happier. It was a pleasant experience.

I had called a couple of other places in KC and they were all telling me it would be two to three days before they had an opening to get there, but not KC Prestige! They were at my house less than 2 hrs after I called and had it all fixed in 20mins. My technician, Kamale was really thorough and walked me through what had happened and gave me some advice on future maintenance schedules. As a new homeowner I need all the help I can get and I really appreciated being educated during the process. I can't thank them enough! Oh, and it's very affordable! They quoted me an expected service fee of $79 and then I paid for the wire and compressor replacement as well (my compressor was still working, but was over 5yrs old and probably would need the replacement in the near future any way, so I figured go for it while I have someone competent and honest here). All total was $280, which is about than what a hotel for two nights would have cost me and that's where I would have been if they hadn't rushed over to assist me.

The young tech said I was low on freon by at least three pounds $175/pound to replace. He concluded by saying the unit that was sold to me 7-8 years ago was old and bad and would need to be replaced. Collecting $69 and leaving the house so we could decide how to proceed. Thankfully a friend urged me to get a second opinion with Richie. Richie came out to my house in later that day. His inspection? Well the unit was just a little low in refrigerant. The unit was fine. He took approximately 45 minutes to clean the unit outside as it was moderately dirty and hadn't been cleaned in over a year. He said the unit was fine. He wanted to see how the unit it performed (it's doing great!), he would be back in a couple of days to reevaluate and top off the refrigerant. He said if anything he could make any needed repairs and most likely there is still a manufacturers warranty still in place which he could find by running the serial number. Richie was a blessing!

I scheduled the A/C tuneup this season and was told that the fan was not working and they gave me a quote of $800 to service it and $2700 to give it full workup!!! THAT'S WITH THE DISCOUNT!!! I called around and found another certified HVAC specialist who offered to come out and look at it. They spent 30 minutes at the house and had me up and running for only $75. The fixed the fan and filled it with freon as well as looking at the rest of the system to make sure I was up to par. I called and canceled my service contract the next day.

The service has been consistently excellent, with very friendly technicians who do a great job of presenting you with options without pressuring you to spend more money that you should. I can't guarantee that their prices are the cheapest in town; but I'm willing to pay slightly more for a company that I know will stand by its work. I have to give one specific example -- we recently had a technician stop by because our A/C seemed to be running less efficiently than usual. As he went down the steps of our garage to begin his inspection, he slipped on a workout mat that I had forgotten at the foot of the stair -- It was completely my fault and I felt horrible. He seemed to hurt his knee and to be in some discomfort. I would have absolutely understood if he had called off the service to return at a later date, or if he had offered rushed or less than courteous service. Of course, he did nothing of the kind, but offered the usual patient and thorough service that I've become accustomed to. He inspected our system and cleaned our A/C unit, which fixed the inefficiencies that we had been experiencing. The kicker, after all this, is that we were charged nothing at all because the service agreement from our A/C purchase, which I had completely forgotten about, was still in effect! Our technician, of course, reminded us of this. Great company. I recommend them with confidence.

I called Polar and within minutes had a call back and within an hour had a service person out to look at our unit. Shortly after that, everything is up and running. The service person (JT) was fast, efficient and personable. Update: so fast forward a bit...and it was time for us to replace our a/c and furnace. I got multiple estimates and was very pleased that not only was Polar Aire competively priced but they did a great write up of their estimate and emailed (type written with multiple options explained and quoted) whereas the other companies scribbled out their estimates. (I was comparing a lot of different efficiencies and units so this was very appreciated. As well I recently got a water heater from them. Now I have met several of their technicians and they were all a pleasure to work with...timely, professional etc. I love their appointment confirmation calls and texts and how they follow up to see if you are happy with their work. Highly recommend.

Instead of paying the fee again for their mediocre service, I had someone else out (great thorough service) and they put Freon in. What kind of technician isn't checking Freon when they're in there? Such a half baked visit, will not be back.
