There are only 3 doctors in the state who can treat her for what she has. Hence, Jacksonville is one of the medical facilities one is at and we were very pleased with the Mayo Clinic. The facility is top-notch, the campus is modern, clean, and the staff is terrific. Everyone we came in contact with were helpful and knowledgeable. The place is beautiful, art everywhere, places to sit and relax, history of the Mayo family and how it all came to be, photos, and information. This was all just in one part of it where we were, the ER and Davis Building. They also have quality places to eat and even a full Starbucks here. This is a state of the art hospital with world class physicians. Walking the corridors there an air of calm knowing you or your family member are being treated by the best.

I will say up front, that during my two visits (one in 2019, this one in Nov.2026) for procedures and tests (including overnight stays) at Ascension St. Vincent's Southside Hospital (apparently this is the real name) have been among the best, if not the best medical care I've received in a hospital. Having what I perceived as a medical emergency, St. Vincent's was chosen for me in 2019 by the NAS Hospital because of an emergency procedure I needed on my left side. I remembered that and this time I got to pick where I would go for hospital care. Room set up was ready for me when I arrived. The ambulance ride went very well and both paramedics were solid professionals and very courteous. I wound up staying at St. Vincent's for about two days. There were three tests and photos taken of my heart. One thing that I was sad about was how many times needles were being pressed into my arms! - I still have great veins to work with! But they were totally uncooperative on this visit. I should have suggested the butterfly! But setting up for further blood pulls probably would eliminate the use of a butterfly syringe. I will say each tech who worked with me did it in a careful manner, which I appreciated! I can say that I've worked in hospitals as a chaplain a been a patient on multiple occasions too! Knowing it from both angles really helps in giving an assessment of a hospital staff and the care they provide. I liked that St. Vincent's provides morning and evening prayers that are heard across the the hospital both morning and evening. A Catholic hospital I once worked in years ago provided this service too (even I gave some!). I had two fantastic nurses, both first class!! Sara and Doug took awesome care of me by visiting my room rather frequently and fulfilling any requests I had promptly. I did make one mistake while I was there and I'm thankful that they helped correct me. I enjoyed talking with numerous staff personnel and can say for the most part, they really seemed to enjoy working here and were committed to the care of the patient. The only strike (not a star) I have took place at breakfast when I found food seasoning rather than Splenda I had ordered for my coffee! Well, I did call back and asked for a correction, but it never came :( I don't hold it against them - I was discharged not long after eating. As for my tests, I have some life changes to make. I'm thankful St. Vincent's made some arrangements for me to begin that process in the near future. Hopefully the VA will work with me on this one too! This hospital has been around for a good number of years. It does show its age on the floors. I was on 3 North and it was very active up there. I don't believe this calls for a renovation yet, but it might need to be in the works sometime in the not too distant future. Oh! Another thing that showed the floor staff was solid was that my room was right next to the nurses station. I could hear conversations throughout day and night. Never once did I hear anything negative, inappropriate, or a single gripe. In all, I was very well-treated here and truly am grateful for the care I received at Ascension St. Vincent's Southside Hospital. PS- I want to add another to my list of mentions. My assigned doctor, Dr. Ijaz was truly fantastic in her patient care! She understood my situation well and gave some explanations on things I hadn't thought about. She also set up my first appointment with a cardiologist as I begin life's next journey. They were able to bring in the specialists he needed and diagnosed him in just a few hours. The quality of care was truly top notch at this facility. One of the first things Dr. Leu reportedly said was, "You're young, why are you here?" That is an incredibly dismissive way to speak to someone who came in with legitimate health concerns. My family member tried to explain her symptoms and left feeling brushed off, belittled, and made to feel stupid for seeking medical care at all. She was so hurt by the interaction that she cried afterward. What makes this even more infuriating is that recent bloodwork has since supported the concerns she was trying to address. She had every reason to seek care, and instead of being listened to, she was made to feel as though her concerns were insignificant simply because of her age. She also said Dr. Leu repeatedly talked about retiring soon during the appointment. Quite frankly, if retirement is where your attention is, patients should not be the ones paying the price for it. People come to a doctor because they are scared, uncomfortable, or looking for answers. They should not have to fight to be taken seriously. This was not simply a disappointing bedside manner. It was a deeply upsetting experience that left a patient feeling humiliated and unheard. Based on what my family member experienced, I would strongly encourage others to consider a different provider if they want to feel respected and taken seriously.

After I sat down in a waiting room chair, the second person finally got a wheelchair to sit in while being checked in. The check-in person showed no empathy at all, it actually felt like she was not in the mood. The initial assessment by a nurse was conducted in an open area surrounded by dividers for multiple other patients in an open area. I asked to be moved out of the walkway for privacy. Not a good setup for triage. Same way for first doctor visit. At one time, I was placed in a holding room with a COVID patient, so another patient got me a mask. After 5 hours, I got out alive with directions to follow up. I rated this a 3 because I received the tests my primary recommended.

Leaving the patient to fend for itself, now they have to start a whole new relationship with someone else. Shame on the Mayo. The Mayo should at lease accept the patients that have been with the physician that's moving over, they are not new to their doctor and really not new to Mayo.

Not only is the hospital extremely nice, spacious and clean, it was great for allowing my husband and I to basically move in to our son's room. Of course there are rules in NICU about food and guests but that is to keep these fragile babies safe. My second son had major surgery on his skull and we had a couple nights in PICU. Again, amazing facilities, we were able to stay with him and the care level was 10/10. Amazing nurses and staff tending to him around the clock and taking care of us as well making sure we were comfortable. We are very lucky that Wolfson's is close to our home and we were able to have our boys treated there. What a blessing.

The nurses were very helpful with offering different financial aid and giving a lot of info! Only reason I'm not giving 5 stars is they couldn't say exactly what was wrong but sometimes you can't tell.
