At her room all the nurses and staff were very friendly and helpful. They helped mom and was very patient with her because mom can have an unpleasant temper at times ( if you know what I mean). They never lost their composure and always stayed professional!!!! The hospital is somewhat difficult to learn how to get around but after a few days it was that bad. Advice: park in P2 garage and go to upper level 3. The covered walkway takes you from garage to second floor of the hospital. I definitely recommend this hospital! I have heart issues myself so if I had to come here for medical needs I would feel very uncomfortable with it!

When we arrived, we were instructed to go to the ER waiting room, let staff know who we were with, and that once my mother was placed in a room, we would be able to go to the back. While my sister and I were in the waiting room, a staff member called my mother's last name, told us she could now have two visitors, gave us a pass, and used her key card to let us in the back. Once we walked to the back, a tall man in scrubs immediately stopped us, put his hands up, and questioned why we were there. We explained that we had just been called and shown a visitor pass. He said we should not be there and then brought over another woman, who also spoke to us in an aggressive and dismissive manner. After we explained multiple times that we were following the instructions we had just been given, we were eventually allowed through. As we walked toward my mother's room, one of the EMTs grabbed my arm and said, "You know you're not supposed to follow us here." I told him I did not know anything about that, that I was only worried about my mother, and that we had followed the instructions given to us. He then became more aggressive and got in my face. This was an extremely upsetting experience. My mother was having a medical emergency, and instead of being treated with professionalism and compassion, my sister and I were met with hostility, aggression, and disrespect.

I requested a good faith estimate multiple times from Billing, Neurology, and Customer Service. I did not receive one. At the date and time of my appointment I was informed there would be a hospital fee in addition to my office visit fee due to the location being in proximity to the hospital. I did not enter the hospital nor did i receive services there. I requested the removal of the fee due to the fact that was not informed in advance of the appointment and was never provide the price. I contacted customer service and billing and received no assistance. I then contacted the patient advocate. The response is received was that UF does not provide good faith estimates and does not notify patients of the hospital fee at the location in advance of the appointment. The lack of price transparency and concern for patients financial burdens is appalling.

Steve was thorough in his assessment, asked open-ended questions and maintained excellent eye contact., Having worked in the medical field for over 20 years, I have worked with many physicians and many forget the humanistic side of patient care but I have to really commend Dr. Mark Fleisher for being different. He was very detailed in his assessment but most importantly he personalized the visit. Understanding I would rather have a root canal with no Novocaine than be there, he took his time, explained things to me and took an interest in me as a person. He even called me out for my negative attitude towards being in a doctor's office in a humors manner that again, eased the tension I feel. Surgery centers are a new concept for my family. We've always gone to a hospital when someone…read moreneeded surgery. I accompanied my mother to the Southpoint surgery center for cataract surgery. Our initial impression was more of a pleasant surprise. She and I both envisioned mass chaos, but everything was very well organized. The physical location of the surgery centers extremely convenient & easily accessible from I-95 and J. Turner Butler Boulevard . Check-in was a breeze for anyone who understands modern technology. If an elderly person were to be there alone, they may have issues with the check-in process because it is all computerized. There were many different people there for many different surgeries but the wait time was minimal for my mother's Doctor and her cataract surgery. I'm uncertain how they choose, which surgeries happen in which rooms but I would think that similar surgeries all happened in the same rooms in order to keep the flow of patients moving quickly. The staff was all very cordial and greeted each patient with a smile on their face. The ones I witnessed were all soft spoken and genuinely concerned for the health and welfare of the patients they were with. The lobby, waiting room and what I could see of the receptionist's area was very clean and organized, but I was unable to view any of the operating rooms as I waited in the waiting area for my mother's procedure to be finished. From what it seems, surgery centers, streamline the surgery process, and look to be the wave of the future. This particular Center turned out to be a blessing for my mother, as she is quite anxious with anything medically related. She was pleased with the swift service and very thorough nature of the staff at Southpoint surgery center!

I will be out-under anesthesia. Say a prayer for me in late August, for the surgery.
