We ordered a pound of moist brisket, a pound of ribs, side of beans and side of slaw. It cost over $60, and we were pretty underwhelmed. The meat was a bit tough and dry for the really high price tag. The beans tasted like bushes baked beans, and the slaw was soo dry. Also, the customer service wasn't the best. The rudest guy owns this place. The barbecue really isn't that good to be honest with you. There just isn't any competition in the area. It's always hit or miss with the moisture of the meat. Try somewhere else that appreciates their customers. The owner doesn't here. The sides are limited and don't taste good. 12:30 6/13/14 - Brook's Place is still is producing Top 50 quality. Nice to see he is enjoying some of the fruits of success. I noticed he has upgraded his pickup and installed a metal canopy structure. The steel canopy is sooo much better than the tailgate tent held down with strings and weights. I bet a few stiff winds sent that baby sailing. But most of all he finally got some much needed help to work the goose neck trailer. Congrats to Brooks for being a consistent standout in Houston BBQ. I scored Brooks Place a 92 out of 100. Consistently producing Grand Champion Texas BBQ. Smoke: Oak but I spotted some sticks of hickory or pecan. Still working the steel barrel wood fired pit. Brisket: Excellent. 1/4in smoke ring beneath thick black seasoned bark. Received slices from the point so they were moist and full of smokey rendered fat. No knife needed perfect tenderness. Full smoke infused throughout meat and fat. A silky luxurious slice of brisket. No sauce needed at all. Ribs: Very Good. A small spare rib with great bark and seasoning. Tenderness was near perfect with slight reslience but clean bone. Good smokey pork flavor. No sauce needed. Sausage: Excellent. (ditto) A big strong traditional spice coarse ground pork/beef sausage. A strong after taste will keep you licking your lips and stuffing your face. Little grease. No sauce needed at all. Sauce: Very Good. The sauce has great flavor by itself. Its tangy and unique. However, I thought it was a little overpowering and masked the great flavor of the brisket and ribs. It works really well with the bold spice sausage. Get it on the side. read more

I'm all about supporting small and local businesses. I'm also a huge fan of any business that proudly supports Constitutional rights and freedoms, which this place does. Those factors alone kept this from being a 1 star review. The food we got was okay. It wasn't bad and it wasn't great. In fact the slogan for this place could be "The Okayest BBQ in Town." The prices, on the other hand, would only be appropriate for the best BBQ in all of Texas - and this is far from it. Between me and my wife, we got a brisket sandwich, ONE beef rib, and 2 small sides. No drinks, nothing else. Our bill was over $55! Again, if this was mind-blowing BBQ I could accept that. But for the flavor and quantity it was the most severely overpriced meal I've ever had that wasn't at a ballpark, theme park, etc. I can honestly say the prices are based on what the owner's far over-inflated ego tells him about his food, not on the quality or quantity of the actual food being served. To top it all off, customer service is non-existent...and that's putting it the most generous and diplomatic way I can! Not a single please, thank you, or anything else that made us feel welcome. If I could give this place a 0 star I most definitely would! Even though this establishment is Black Owned, I don't think he wants Black people to patronize there. The owner was rude, didn't want to answering any questions but gave other people his undivided attention. He has a dress code or you won't be served and it's outside. During these difficult but uplifting times in our country, he won't serve you if you have anything pertaining to Black Lives Matter. So basically he's turning away Black people. No saggy pants was one rule....that's usually a code for certain kind of Black men. He said you won't be served. He also encourage people to not use facial masks. I think the thing that makes Brooks' Place stand out in the BBQ world is actually its sides. While the meat is very good, the sides are unique. We tried three sides: the cranberry almond slaw, baked beans, and garlic potatoes. The baked beans were sweet while having a little bit of spice; the garlic potatoes were roasted potatoes just smothered in garlic (so good!); and the cranberry almond slaw was just what it sounds like. The baked beans and garlic potatoes were my favorites. And the brisket was very good too! Brooks' Place is a trailer with a few picnic tables in a large parking lot. From what I have heard this place was rated really well and for good reason. This place is top notch! Not only is the food fantastic but you feel extremely safe while eating when Mr. Brooks himself is armed watching you enjoy his BBQ!! I will say this place needs to be B&M. Brooks also provides a 10% discount to law enforcement and CHL holders. Sadly I have retired from Law Enforcement and didn't feel right taking advantage of the discount. As for the food. The smoke on the pork and the brisket is excellent. Full flavor with rich, juicy, tender, beef and pork. What really knocked me back were the beans!!! Holy flavor punch in the face. I've been working on my own BBQ for several years now and I'm proud of what I have accomplished. I'm pretty darn good at it. But Brooks here showed me just how much I have yet to learn. This was so good it's got me set on rethinking my entire outlook on brisket. I suppose I should have expected it - it is, after all, Texas. But I've had Rudy's in Arizona, I thought I must at least have some INKLING of what it tastes like. No, no... I didn't. This is on a whole different planet. Smoky, intense, salty and incredibly juicy and delicious, Brooks' brisket was a marvel for the senses. The ribs and deer sausage were equally good, if not quite as life-changing as the brisket was. Like most really great places, his sides were not mere worthless afterthoughts. Beans and potato salad were top notch as well. There were a couple of misses. The pulled pork was a bit dry. The sauce (who the hell needs it anyway, right?) tastes a bit like he starts with a sweet and sour sauce base from a jar. Not really my cup of tea. But these are quibbles in context. Nobody can put brisket this great in front of a guy like me and not get 5 stars. Thank you Brooks. I can't believe I live 5 mins from this place! Most of the really good BBQ places are a long drive from my house; so I am super thankful! I was driving home from work and decided to stop by. I've read some really high reviews and wanted to see if they lived up to the hype. They only offered brisket and sausage. I was okay with that because those were the choices I wanted, but sadly they only had 2 sides and that was the potato salad and cold slaw. I got the TWO MEATS (brisket and sausage) WITH THE 2 SIDES (2 servings of potato salad). The lady that took my order was so friendly and helpful. She was very sweet. Even when she told me they only had a limited menu, I was okay with it because she said it so apologetically and sweetly. I didn't eat there, but I brought my food home and shared it with my mom. We both enjoyed the briskets because it was so moist and juicy. I loved the fatty parts. The brisket was seasoned well and I love the sauce on the side. It was like a sweet and sour sauce. The sausage was a bit dry, but it was still very flavorful. I love the charcoal/smoky flavor. The potato salad was creamy and I loved the chunks of potatoes that were mixed in. I also got mac and cheese. I don't usually eat anything too cheesy, but this was a nice creamy and soft addition to the dish. Overall, I definitely will come here for my BBQ fix. Lots of people showing up at 11:30 Saturday am. Potatoes aren't mashed, and while the menu says garlic, this is garlic and then some. Hyper-seasoned. The beans have black pepper and something else, and they're pretty good. The sauce is tangy - a little sweet and a little heat. The brisket has a very little ring but offers a very rich, full, smoky flavor. Excellent bark, and moist cut wasn't too fatty. The ribs are exactly how you want them to taste, not huge but moist, tender, and fairly mild. 2nd visit to this amazing bbq trailer. I have eaten Brooks several times before I went to his establishment, because he is part of the Houston barbecue festival held every year. Here's a quick synopsis of how everything was: BBQ sauce: ok Brisket: Super FATTY, there was a note that I noticed on the board after I had already ordered that said something along the lines of, "If you didn't order lean don't complain"; however, this was ridiculous. I was nervous after seeing that note, but since I've never ordered lean before (at a BBQ establishment) I didn't expect that I needed to order it this time. Literally over 50% of the meat was inedible because it was pure fat. No reasonable person would expect there to be that much fat. Baked beans: pretty good, 2nd Potato salad: ok Pulled pork: better than the brisket, but just ok for us Garlic potatoes: good, best thing we tried Mac & cheese: surprisingly this contained broccoli, not baked, not great. Well. Heard this place was great. We got to the intersection of Barker Cypress and 529 and found a Kroger shopping center. Where's the BBQ place? Usually one just has to follow one's nose. So I asked my phone which led me around in circles in the parking lot for about 15 minutes. I'm like ...TF? WTF? It finally stopped me right in front of the Kroger and said "you have reached your destination." I'm like I must be missing something and looked over and saw this smallish trailer and was like that must be it. We wandered over and it was 2 minutes before 11 -- posted hours say they open at 11. But the place is deserted, nobody inside, nobody outside except for a couple other hopeful customers. No BBQ cooking. Sooooo... let's give it a few minutes. We gave it around 20 minutes. Couple, three calls to the listed number went unanswered. We were headed to Tomball so we ended up eating at a BBQ place in Tomball. Called first to make sure they were open. :) read more

We both made it here one day when you still had BBQ and ordered I think everything off the menu. The brisket was off the chart, the sausage was fantastic. I loved the ribs and everything we had. I was in a coma afterwards because it is that fantastic. You sir, are one of the top 5 places in Texas I would get BBQ from. Ever since arriving in Houston in 2009, I have been wanting and desiring some awesome BBQ in Houston. Before 2010, Houston was a BBQ oasis -- simply stated: there wasn't much here to eat. You had to go to Lockhart, Austin or Dallas to get some decent BBQ. Then, a miracle happened. Trent decided to go public with his BBQ and the place has not been the same since then. You've probably heard of other BBQ places and I would put his BBQ up against even the best in Texas -- and it would hold SOLID in any comparison. Why? Because he only produces the best BBQ he can -- and as anyone knows -- the smoker only holds so much meat. So what does that mean? well, it means you better get your butt here early if you want some of that delicious BBQ. All of your 5 star reviews are deserved because you have mastered how to smoke that meat and serve a quality product to your customers. Now to the best part: his sauce. As much as I wanted to like this place, I simply cannot justify going here again. I have been here 6 times now, so I can't keep telling myself that its just an off day. Brooks' Place serves average to below average bbq that in my opinion is overpriced. I looked over the nice pictures of the bbq served at Brook's Place in the Yelp reviews and cannot understand why my brisket never looks as good. I always go during lunch, and it never fails that my brisket is always DRY. It has a decent flavor to it but would be so much better if it was even somewhat moist. Mine literally looked like it had been sitting under a heat lamp for hours. The sausage was also dried out. Another thing is that the portion sizes are small for what you pay. I have gotten three meat plates at other bbq establishments and it is always enough for two meals for me. I always eat the three meat plates at Brook's Place in one sitting. Strangely, the three meat plates in all the pretty Yelp pictures look bigger... And the sides? All over the place. The baked beans are pretty good with nice size pieces of brisket, but all the others are hit and miss. The garlic potatoes I had today were inedible. It was one of the spiciest things I ever put in my mouth; I could taste no garlic but only a searing heat. I cannot understand all the 5 star reviews of this place. I have to believe that people add an extra star or two due to the coolness factor of getting bbq out of a trailer, or because this place was in Texas Monthly. It would be inhuman to leave a dog in a car in our hot temperatures even for 5 minutes. I thought all his signs about no cell phone and CHL were him being clever or funny until I experienced him and he's not clever, just a dude on a territorial parking lot space trip. Oh how the once great has fallen. I will never be back! I pulled up in front right at 11:00am. Not one other car around since it was so early. I walked up to the front window and an old woman shrieks out at me, "you can't park there! Move that car!" I say, "OK, I didn't know that. I'll order and then move it" Which I did, literally 15 feet. Not a, "hello, how can I help you?" or, "thanks for coming to Brooks" I love to be yelled at before even reaching the window. Off to a bad start. Then she rings me up. All I want is a brisket sandwich, extra lean. On the board it says $6.99. A little pricier than the last time I visited but worth it. She gives me the total as $10.49! I thought that was a mistake so I asked and she said "we charge $3.00 for extra lean" haha Uh, no! I've been here many times and have never had that charge. I said then I just want a chopped beef sandwich and she replies, "sorry, he has already sliced the lean". I said I don't want that and have never been charged that and then Mr. Brooks puts his head to the window and says, "you must not have been here in the last 90 days because we've been doing that for 3 months." True. It had been longer than that but not much longer. I'm rarely on this side of town and had always looked forward to stopping in. He "approved" the price of a regular sandwich and gave me the lean version. When I get home to eat, it is almost inedible. The "lean" meat is almost 100% end pieces of hard, dry meat that "crunched" with each bite. Not like before when his lean brisket would fall apart it was so tender. I threw 1/2 out. It was not good! I laughed because one small piece fell out of the paper and I went to give it to my dog. He wouldn't even eat it! haha NOT ONE other BBQ restaurant that I know of charges extra for lean only. That is ridiculous! What is the justification of that? That meat will still be used on a plate or sandwich, right? Maybe I am missing something but even the greediest proprietors, Goode Co, do not charge for extra lean brisket. So Mr. Brooks---your greediness and lack of customer service has cost you a long time customer. I will not be back. Strangely enough I only live 2 minutes away and never even noticed it before even though I drove by it daily. So I went and tried it as soon as I could. I had the 3 meat plate (He was already out of pulled pork by 2 pm) so I had Brisket and Ribs and Sausage. I had the baked bean and Green Beans as my sides. My Wife had the Brisket sandwich. I also got a whole chicken (Mostly because Brooks?? I assume said he had a lot of them left and may have to throw some away which is criminal lol) Brisket- Had a nice subtle smoke to it. It looked dry until I took a bite and realized it was absolutely perfect. Moist and flavorful. Sausage- Had a nice crisp snap to it and some heat as well. Probably my favorite bite of the whole meal. Ribs- Perfect and moist and BIG. Lots of meat on them bones and easily comes away from the bone. Whole Chicken- Looked burnt but was just really smoky. Meat was moist. My hands still smell like smoke an hour later just from pulling on it. Green Beans- Lots of flavor and bacon so win win. Baked Beans- Were delish and had lots of meat in them just how I like them. Sauce- He gave me tons but I didnt use any which I never should have to any how. I tasted it and it was tangy and spicy not to bad at all. This may be the best bbq I have had in the Houston area. I arrived after a lunch rush, but the meat was still moist and tasty. Everything I had was terrific, with added praise for the brisket and sides. It has great smoke flavor and at decent prices for BBQ. I like the set up in the parking lot also.
