Snapping on two clips during a routine filter change does not justify $101 total, nor does the receipt list any actual repair labor for the box itself. 2. Inaccurate Claims About My Review: Brake Inspection: The owner accused me of "fraud" regarding an $80 inspection charge. I explicitly acknowledged that "While they didn't charge for the brake inspection itself, the overall experience left a bad taste in my mouth." I acknowledge the $0 charge on that specific line item. Caliper vs. Total Brake Cost: The owner claimed I said calipers were $900. I never said that. I stated the total brake repairs came out to over $900--which is accurate, as the front disc brakes ($842.24) and rear drum service ($132.00) totaled $974.24. My review explicitly stated the calipers themselves were "almost $250" ($124.14 x 2 = $248.28), which is accurate to the penny. 3. Unclear Communication on Calipers: Replacing calipers isn't routine maintenance for standard brake wear; it's a major component replacement. Check with any reputable shop and they will agree. Replacing them without clearly explaining why the original calipers had failed--rather than just servicing pads and rotors--lacks basic transparency. Bottom Line: Instead of addressing legitimate concerns over high labor rates ($274 to change a single serpentine belt, $49.50 labor for an air filter element), the owner chose to misquote my original review and throw around baseless accusations. Please ask yourself if being accused of fraud is what you want as a customer before you do business with anyone. I was in shock of course, having never had a car stolen before. I got a call from Salem police two days later saying they found the car. It was impounded so we drove up on Monday afternoon and went to rescue it. I couldn't believe how the thieves sought to destroy my well-loved classic car. I couldn't start it and there was TONS of mud inside the car, under the hood, the back area under the hatchback was smashed along w/ a taillight. I knew I was going to pay for someone else's crime, which sickened me. The tow company recommended Valley Specialist so I had the car towed there that afternoon. Very nice staff, the young woman who runs the front office was so kind, love the sweet mascot they have (dog). I was fearing a big mess and big bill. The next morning I got a call from the shop and the first step was replacing the starter. I approved it. About 2 hrs later I found a receipt that I bought a new starter from a local shop for a new starter. I called the local shop and they called Valley Specialists and told them it was under warranty. I got a call from VS about 1 pm stating the car was working and that seemed to be the only problem w/ the car-mechanically speaking. The starter was swapped out for free and the bill was just $132 for the labor! I was thrilled! Without a doubt.....Valley Specialists are top notch and honest! However, when they finally got around to looking at it, I got a call saying the batteries and terminals needed to be replaced. The thing is, my batteries never had any issues -- a simple cleaning would have been more than enough. Instead, they went ahead and installed two new batteries and claimed to have cleaned the terminals. By the time they were done, my bill was nearly $800, and the original issue -- the fuel pump -- wasn't even addressed. I could have easily replaced the batteries and cleaned the terminals myself for a fraction of the cost. What's worse is this isn't the first time we've had issues with this shop. We brought our Jeep in multiple times as well, and it also never came back fully fixed. We've been loyal customers, but this last experience has left us feeling taken advantage of and extremely disappointed. I can't recommend this shop anymore and will be looking elsewhere for future repairs.
