I came here with a few friends on a Tuesday evening. We came during happy hour and a glass of kava was only $3 (as of Aug '25). The barista was very helpful in recommending what to order. I'd never had kava before, and the taste reminded me of miso (but not salty). It's a pretty small cafe but there are a few tables inside and outside. read more

It's nice to have a place for kava. They are very friendly and a good value for the money

We went to get Kava while staying in Brooklyn. It was pretty good considering I've never had it before. They also have kratom drinks, which I was a little surprised about. The kava alone was strong and not what I expected and tingled my tongue. I got the horachata and it was amazing. We loved it. The cousins instantly regretted their choice. I was very pleased. read more

Cool spot in the heart of bushwick, situated on Suydam off of Wilson. You can get all of your non-alcoholic beverage needs met here. From Kratom to Kava, chai to coffee. All sorts of exotic twists on the menu, which I still have not fully explored. I usually grab a traditional kava, double shot works for me. As I'm told it has a "reverse tolerance" I guess that means as you go more often, you'll feel it more readily. It's a chill out and relax type of compound, very different than the amped up and go you get from your caffeinated brethren. As other folks have pointed out, it's a bit of a tiny spot, so during the colder months, you might not find a table. That said, it's cozy, and usually interesting conversations going on. read more

A nice man named Nelson was such a pleasure. I really enjoyed this delicious cappuccino with pretty art he made for me. He was so informative on kava and kratom I can't wait to come back and hang. Thanks bk kava and your awesome team! read more

That's some damn good coffee. Thai iced. Holy words. Coming up to this place is a little intimidating for its punk/hipster thrift vibe, but the art is stunning and the COFFEE OMG THE COFFEE is so good!!! read more

Get ready to get calm. A small intimate space with cozy seating, beautiful art drawn on the walls, and kava drinks so tasty you'll wonder how they're still strong! For the uninitiated, Kava is usually very strong tasting and not very good- earthy and cloudy. Brooklyn Kava offers it straight, but the better option is one of the Kava cocktails. Get a double scoop ($10) and I highly recommend both the drinks I tried- the vegan eggnog and the lavender chai. Vegan eggnog is quite sweet but cinnamon-y and tastes nothing like real eggnog(thank god). The lavender chai is comforting while being fresh from the floral notes. Both can be made warm if you like. They have plenty of treats from Ovenly if you needs snacks with your Kava and Kratom drinks as well if you want a boost instead of a relaxant. Can't wait to come back! read more

I only heard of this place because of a guy I am seeing. Know nothing about this special substance used in beverages, and he didn't either but the bartender Lady was very kind and did a quick intro with recommendations. It's like a little shop where people hang out with their laptops at the bar (which I find weird) and groups of friends in the lounging area with board games and just hanging. It's chill, not really your local coffee shop per se but it is chill. I just remember my body feeling high and that it was sensitive to touch. Nice experience and would def go back. read more

Swung by mid afternoon on a Saturday and sat at the bar hoping to be served, as there weren't many people inside, only myself and 2 others that were with me at the bar. So just my party of 3 sitting there waiting for them to initiate service, I've never been here before and i said that, the women behind the counter was far less than helpful, they were all smiles to patrons outside of the window getting their orders outside via the walk up window and ensuring they was happy, and understood what they were getting. I felt unwelcomed as neither of the two servers asked what can I get you? Are you familiar with what we have, do you know how it works, Or can i make a suggestion if you would like to try something... NONE of these services were extended to me or my other 2 guest! I finally stopped one of the short haired girls and asked for something off the menu and my order was taken in passing! SMH! I mean i sat here long enough through the BS why not order and write an honest review, I will never ever drop another penny in a jar for this establishment! RUDE RUDE RUDE I don't understand how you can blatantly be so rude to a respectful customer. read more

I am a native of St Petersburg, Florida which is in Pinellas County--the county in the country with the highest density of kava/kratom cafes. It is pretty intense down here and I love it so much. Whenever I travel, I try to find my beloved culture. Found it in Bushwick!!! Brooklyn Kava gets the drinks right and gets the whole beautiful vibe right. Thank you so much for giving me a home away from home whenever I come up to see my kid. Everything was spot on--especially the people who make the worldwide botanical community what it is. Love you guys!!! read more

This is a racist establishment! My brother is a regular and the bartenders switched ! When. My brother actually brought his drink back in from walking inside because something was wrong . As a customer has a right to do so he was treated so racially biased it almost made me take a flight from Florida ! Just because your in new Brooklyn don't make you woke ! And trust the koombia vibe they trying to sell ? Don't buy especially from Taylor! read more

I learned about this place from a friend of mine who had been coming here for quite some time. The shop itself is cute, cozy and has a bangin AC which was AMAZING during those crazy hot days. I had never tried kava or kratom and was a little hesitant but the staff here was SO informed and so incredibly helpful. They really made sure I understood and asked questions to ensure I had the best experience possible. I ended up getting the Matcha Lemonade with the green kratom and it was SO GOOD. I went from complete ignorance to a huge fan almost instantly. If you're even SLIGHTLY interested in trying kava or kratom this is 100% the place to go. read more

This place is best in the area to chill and work on something you really need done. Folks don't bother you and there are great options on coffee, small bites and kava. Speak to the person behind the counter about Kava if you haven't tried it before. They are passionate about it and the interior walls are full with local artwork. I recommend their cold brew. 4 Stars cos' of the small space. read more

Cute hidden coffee spot. It's quite small but I think it adds to the charm of the place. Popped in cause I was looking for a place to work out of for the day. Unfortunately didn't stay for long cause there was only one wall outlet in the entire shop (ok if I hadn't come in for the express purpose to work) and also two people were talking SO LOUD about opening a coffee shop of their own/critiquing Brooklyn Kava (who does that) that I was about to lose my mind. read more

Business owner//barista was perfecto hibiscus drink made me euphoric ... I even tweeted about it ..... but then I projectile vomited at my next destination -- was reassured this was a potential side effect by a very nice barista who answered my panicked phone call that evening. Still 5 stars because me puking doesn't mean the service & atmosphere wasn't on point. Plus the art - dudes, go for the bathroom wallpaper alone - it's so cool. Puking is not for everyone just me because my insides suck at handling kava/Kratom, no matter how I try. read more

Now I haven't actually had the coffee and I'm sure it's probably really great. However this rating is for customer service. I called the coffee shop before actually heading over. They told me they were open until 8. I told them okay im omw. After arriving 15 mins later, the lady there tell us they shutdown the coffee machine an hour early. AN HOUR EARLY. And are no longer serving coffee. Don't you think you could've said that on the phone??? Before I arrived. Before I made the trip. This is just terrible customer service. read more

Brooklyn Kava is a great spot, they have a wide variety of coffee and tea drinks in addition to the kava and the kratom. I seldom drink kava, but I'm a big fan of kratom and can say that the kratom at Brooklyn Kava is very potent and one certainly gets their money's worth. There is also kombucha, as well as some delicious confectioneries from Ovenly that are delicious. I know what I just wrote is redundant, I said what I said! This spot is on the smaller side, come prepared find all of the seats taken; in the warmer months this is of little concern as one can hang outside - there is window service with a counter. In the colder months, being that this is a non-alcohol bar, one can get any beverage to go if there is no vacancy. I do believe Brooklyn Kava has the strongest kratom in all of New York City, if you like kratom this would be THE spot. As of the Covid-era, they offer 32 and 64 oz growlers of kava or kratom at really good prices. read more

Brooklyn Kava - Wall art in Brooklyn Kava - Coffee & Tea Near Me - Bushwick, New York

I don't feel comfortable about last night with Timothee because... He was on molly and I was really drunk. I knowingly drank four cans of alcohol. I stumbled around the depths of Bushwick for 30 minutes whilst fucked up, my mouth stinging from kratom tinged with turmeric. You always spring the question upon me, but who's to blame when I comply, not saying a thing. I feel like my actions could have been better when I did not speak my mind in bed with Timothee. I knew I just wanted to cuddle. He aggressively guided the session, while I succumbed. My tongue grazes the wounds upon the roof of my mouth; I recall the distance: "you can't rush intimacy," I said, as he called out the awkwardness of the play. The self-deprecation. I just wanted the attention. I needed to feel another body on mine. read more

My experience at Brooklyn Kava was quite unforgettable. I had visited a Kava bar before in Portland, so I was expecting a similar experience. Least to say, I was surprised after my night at this café. The inside environment is very inviting, the music is very soothing & ambient, & the locals are incredibly friendly. Not to mention, the server at the time, Ben, was very knowledgeable & helped me & my friend choose kava drinks based on what we were trying to experience. He let us know that the effects of Kava & Kratom were similar to coffee, except in the opposite way--you would feel simultaneously relaxed, yet also stimulated. We even played Uno with him & a local for some time. Overall a wonderfully communal experience. My body did not react well to the Kava and some of the Kratom that I had taken, similar to the experience I had in Portland, but I was thankful for the help that I received while at the café. Ben went out of his way to help me & also did not charge me for my drinks. I had the - Kava Double (with grapefruit juice to cleanse my palette) - Kratom cocktail with ginger & honey, I think Overall a very warm, welcoming, and interesting place. A truly rare gem that you could only find in Bushwick. Definitely come here if you would be interested in this type of experience. read more

Best kava bar in NYC and the country tbh. Super inclusive and chill spot to relax, so much space and the owner gives back a lot to the community. Queer people are most definitely welcome in this space. read more

An absolute lifesaver. Brooklyn Kava was able to deliver to my doorstep multiple times over the past few months and each batch of kava is delicious even on it's own. They also became friends with my mom over the phone, which was very sweet. Thanks so much for being so kind and offering such wonderful service. Looking forward to ordering again! read more

the frail, Venezuelan barista is the most annoying, trivial person I have ever dealt with in a retail setting. His tone is so flat and aloof like he can't be bothered with you. He will also find a way to make you feel stupid or like you did something wrong. He is a caricature of the snobby, indifferent, I-am-better-than-you Brooklyn Barista. read more

Came here on a whim before a meeting with a client. Love the local feel and how nice everyone was. I ended up just getting a cold brew and it was very delicious. Not bad but over priced. Also the Kratom kind of blows. The kava is pretty good but I don't like that they don't explain anything. They also had no idea that there are different strains of kava and kratom out there which doesn't make me comfortable drinking there. If you sell something please learn everything about it. read more

I've been to this place twice now and am already a fan. It's a tiny little Kava bar, and doesn't draw much attention from the outside but has an excellent relaxed vibe on the inside. This bar offers a variety of coffee beverages in addition to Kava and Kratom (a similar beverage to Kava). Ben was serving up drinks at the bar, and offered some great conversation and company as well. While you're relaxing with your drinks you are free to play board or card games that they have on a shelf. My friend and I made friends with Ben and a regular customer and played several games of Uno while drinking our Kava and snacking on some gluten free peanut butter cookies. Be forewarned that Kava itself doesn't taste very good, but Brooklyn Kava does a solid job of masking the earthy (or almost dirty) taste of the kava root. I personally enjoyed the iced tea made with kratom more than the kava itself. Overall, my first Kava experience was positive. My body felt really relaxed and the environment was great for unwinding after a long day. read more

My friend introduced me to this place and kava in particular. Since then it has become one of my favorite places to visit in Bushwick. If you're looking for a nice relaxed atmosphere, this is a place to go. For those who doesn't like to drink kava straight up, there is great selection of cocktails(lavender chai tasted like heaven),plus a variety of coffee drinks made by knowledgeable baristas is worth mentioning too. Anna is a doll! I definitely recommend this place. Even more, I'm bringing my mom here next time she's in town ;) read more

A very nice and cozy place. They have fair prices for their food and drinks. I had both a green kratom and red kratom. They both were very good and started to feel the calming effects soon after. I also had both a blueberry and cornflake muffin and a slice of pumpkin bread. They both were very fresh and tasted great. The service is very good. Friendly employees who are well informed that can tell all about their products if anyone never had Kava or kratom. I definitely will be coming back soon. Great experience! read more

Cute little place that serves these rare teas like Kava and Kratom. I had asked if it's okay to drink both, the employee said yes no problem. It really affected me and I got severely sick. I later read you are not supposed to combine the two it can be dangerous. I don't want to give this place a bad rating on account of my getting sick from the tea but I guess you should just do a little research for yourself on what to drink since they didn't really give much info. Hope you can keep down the Kratom better than I could! I know it has helped a lot of people. read more

Artsy and cozy. They have kombucha on tap, but I got a caramel latte Kava cocktail, which was pretty good.
