A nice man named Nelson was such a pleasure. I really enjoyed this delicious cappuccino with pretty art he made for me. He was so informative on kava and kratom I can't wait to come back and hang. Thanks bk kava and your awesome team!

Get ready to get calm. A small intimate space with cozy seating, beautiful art drawn on the walls, and kava drinks so tasty you'll wonder how they're still strong! For the uninitiated, Kava is usually very strong tasting and not very good- earthy and cloudy. Brooklyn Kava offers it straight, but the better option is one of the Kava cocktails. Get a double scoop ($10) and I highly recommend both the drinks I tried- the vegan eggnog and the lavender chai. Vegan eggnog is quite sweet but cinnamon-y and tastes nothing like real eggnog(thank god). The lavender chai is comforting while being fresh from the floral notes. Both can be made warm if you like. They have plenty of treats from Ovenly if you needs snacks with your Kava and Kratom drinks as well if you want a boost instead of a relaxant. Can't wait to come back!

Swung by mid afternoon on a Saturday and sat at the bar hoping to be served, as there weren't many people inside, only myself and 2 others that were with me at the bar. So just my party of 3 sitting there waiting for them to initiate service, I've never been here before and i said that, the women behind the counter was far less than helpful, they were all smiles to patrons outside of the window getting their orders outside via the walk up window and ensuring they was happy, and understood what they were getting. I felt unwelcomed as neither of the two servers asked what can I get you? Are you familiar with what we have, do you know how it works, Or can i make a suggestion if you would like to try something... NONE of these services were extended to me or my other 2 guest! I finally stopped one of the short haired girls and asked for something off the menu and my order was taken in passing! SMH! I mean i sat here long enough through the BS why not order and write an honest review, I will never ever drop another penny in a jar for this establishment! RUDE RUDE RUDE I don't understand how you can blatantly be so rude to a respectful customer.

A small cafe with character. Fun to seat and look at the walls. Music in civilized volume.

Hey guys and gals, this question is directed toward the kratom people, as an individual who is constantly ordering different strains, how would you rate the quality of their kratom tea?

I guess Kratom tea is not for everyone, as I threw up 40 mins after having mine!

They have sushi, some anime toys, a bunch of other Japanese food, and random goods that I know my youngest niece would be obsessed with. When I went to check in, I noticed that I couldn't find it... At some point they changed their name. They're called Harumi now, but I'm not sure how recent that is. It appears they've always been a Japanese market, though. I don't recall the last time I went to a Japanese market outside of Montgomery County, MD... And these prices seem so much better honestly. It makes me wish I had markets like this closer to home. The sushi and sesame mochi I got were fantastic. And my niece loved the chopsticks I got her.

I've been visiting this market since they first opened. Back then, it was modest, but over the past few months it's grown into what I'd now consider a must-visit spot. The market has clearly gained traction, and for good reason. One of the coolest details is behind the counter--there are some amazing anime figure displays, which I believe are also for sale (and yes, I want one myself ). The onigiri and sushi that everyone comes in for are made fresh daily, which really sets this place apart. Overall, it's an average-sized market with a solid selection of snacks, a good amount of groceries you'd typically find in any Japanese-style market, and a small but nice selection of Taiwanese and Japanese beers. What I appreciate most is that the market doesn't over-advertise like some others do. The layout makes it easy to focus on what you need and want without feeling overwhelmed by marketing. I stopped by again yesterday--mainly for the onigiri, which I regularly travel from LIC for. Yes, there are other markets that sell onigiri, but many are cold and not made fresh daily. That distinction matters. With all that said, I'm giving this review 4.8 stars, only because I'd love to see a wider selection of Korean beers. Add that, and it's an easy 5 stars--though honestly, it already feels like one.

We started with two perfect oysters which had ikura, ramps, Thai chili oil and coriander flowers. Then sugar snap peas cooked perfectly with a hint of sesame - oil some special kind. But the superstar starter was the leek custard, with a mound of Osetra caviar atop a little dot of wasabi sprinkled with Alyssum flowers. $55 but worth it! Then we moved on to the seafood risotto which was the most toothsome risotto made with Japanese rice - seafood broth - and a mound of fresh red shrimp, razor clams, scallops hint of chili and a bit of mint. Perfection The charred white asparagus with sable fish with Shiro miso and green garlic was a complete surprise - delicious. Another superstar was the soft egg sitting in a sea of blue crab meat - in a brown butter garam salt bath. Served with a crusty baguette that we used to lap up all the amazingly tasty sauce. Unique - unsurpassed in flavor. We ending the savory courses with a lovely steelhead trout surrounded by thinly sliced fresh asparagus and fava beans with this basil and almond. Despite eating every last drop we made room for strawberry rhubarb pavlova. So well prepared. Little bits of crunchy raw rhubarb and nuts added a nice contrast to this often soft dessert. The wines are incredible and we had a Portuguese blend with a Cortes to cema (sp?) Service was beyond excellent. Friendly professional and even fun. Wine knowledge is first class. Hip and cool. The room is small. Getting a reservation is better than winning the lottery but just as challenging ! We love this place!

I had been wanting to try this place just bc it's right there whenever I get off the Bedford Ave stop and it looked like a cute local spot. The pasta there is probably one of the worst I've ever had. The fettuccini noodles were fine, but the sauce was just boiled milk. No butter, no salt. I ordered it with grilled shrimp, and the total order was $19. With the serving bowl already being tiny, it was only half filled and the 6 shrimp I had were so small and didn't seem that fresh. I was going to quietly leave and just never come back again, but then the manager there asks how it was and I just honestly said that I thought it was really bland and unseasoned. I said there was no salt whatsoever. He replies back saying that's why they have a salt and pepper shaker, and I understand adjusting the garnishes to your own taste. However, you can't just not add salt to food you're serving so I found his defensiveness really absurd like every restaurant fast casual or not adds some amount of balance. And the Alfredo sauce was literally diluted milk. He eventually apologizes to me for the poor taste, but then asks if I'm going to put a bad review. I found that really unprofessional and he probably was asking because they don't get much customers. I said no and quickly left. I really wanted to support a small business, but that whole interaction just left a bad taste adding to the already shit pasta. Service is quick and friendly and pasta is served in cardboard containers along with disposable utensils. The portions are fine but the prices are high for what you get. Not surprising since Peonia is located right on Bedford. The Fettuccine Alfredo with mushrooms that my friend and I shared came out to around 16 dollars which is cheaper than what most Italian establishments will charge you. What they lack in formal restaurant service, they make up for with creamy and tasty pasta. The fettuccine was al dente and the alfredo sauce is pretty good. Think a step up from Rao's frozen pastas but less satisfying than restaurant style pasta. I'm not saying I'll run over for more pasta anytime soon, but at least Peonia will fulfill a spontaneous pasta craving. A good on-the-go option.
