I came to this bar on my birthday to celebrate with my two friends but The whole entire time I got followed around by this drunk man sitting at the bar trying to buy us drinks. Even though my friends and myself denied this creepy man he was persistent. I told the bartender to not let them pay for drinks and for him to leave us alone. I even told the doorman about him and he said he would take care of it. But instead very large doorman decided to take the opportunity to be the creepy man himself!! I grew up living a couple of houses from this bar, back in the good old days when Henderson Furniture was still there and it was called The Hut - I never stepped foot in there but when I did take a peak there were a handful of people in there. The crowd definitely seemed older and there was never ever any fuss heard from that bar. I have seen Brooklyn Bar through its growing pains as it does cater to a younger crowd. Initially there were fights right in front of my home, loud crowds hanging out on the block and even vandalized cars. I never had the time to make an official complaint but luckily, it did calm down quite a lot. Pro I have since moved out of Lawndale but visit friends and family quite a bit. I finally went in there about 3 years ago and had a great time! They have boards games and great affordable beer. I also cant complain that it's walking distance to the house I grew up in. Con Recently, I was there 2 weeks ago and had a terrible experience with the staff there. I forget which day of the week it was but there was a small crowd of young 20 something looking people doing kareoke. I walked in and was aggressively escorted out of the bar by the bartender - Latino male looks to be in mid 40's. I have not had the time yet to file an official complaint but for this to happen just blocks from my childhood home makes me very upset. Awesome little spot. Lots of seating on gorgeous benches, with purse hooks underneath! Automatically given peanuts with our beers. Guys behind the bar were super friendly. Let me sample a beer or two before I committed to my beer of choice, Mother Earth's Cali Creamin. Also made sure we were happy with which game was on the television in front of us. Very clean and didn't feel too divey, although it is definitely a neighborhood spot. Hot dogs were yummy and reasonably priced. I think I'll be a local to this spot. read more

I love this bar!! The Service --- The service is fine; the bartenders are friendly. When it's busy, it might take a while to get a drink but, really, it's like that at any bar. The Food/Dranks --- They have a good selection of beer. If you're looking for something different, definitely try the cream beer, I think it's called California Creamin or something like that. There's also a peanut butter stout that I really like, Belchin Beaver. They have some food. We always get a thing if peanuts. You can also make your own hot dogs. However, last time we were there, they ran out! So maybe come earlier in the night if you're planning to eat. The Prices --- Prices are good as well. For a large beer 24oz or so, it's only like $15 on average. I may be wrong but I think the peanuts are free. If not, they're really cheap. Parking: If you are lucky, there are a few parking spots in the front. Otherwise, you can easily find parking in the residential area. Venue: This is the place to be if you want to catch a big game or match. They have a couple pool tables and board games (giant jenga) for entertainment. Atmosphere: I wouldn't call this a dive bar, as most have described it. I would just call it a bar that does not serve hard liquor. The crowd is a mixture, young and old. Another reviewer mentioned that the place was hipster- I would have to disagree, but acknowledge that everyone has their own opinions :) Food: I never tried the food that is out in front of the bar, but every time I pass it, it smells amazing!! So I went last night for my Second time. The first time I went, I had a couple of people who are not beer drinkers. This is a beer only bar. I love the atmosphere and the decor of the place. They play the absolute best music. I love a bar that plays hip-hop, R&B, and early 90s. The DJ is just awesome. It's big and roomy, lots of seating, and they have games for you to play at the tables. There is a big pool area that we spent most of our night around the pool area. The beer prices are cheap in comparison to other places. Averaging about $6-$7 for a large beer. The manager, who I believe to be is the manager ( good looking tall white guy with a beard) is so awesome. I remember from my prior visit being really cool and alert with service. I love this place and can see it as my go-to any day. read more

This is such a chill spot to have a beer! They have so many local beers and a nice variety from IPAs to stouts and everything in between!! Love the fact that they have board and card games to entertain the group or yourself! I tried the the peanut butter chocolate beer and man it is bomb!!! Almost taste like a Reeses pieces beer and I love Reeses pieces they have two pool tables and even a pinball machine which is rare to see now a days. I stopped by this bar for some drinks and pool. Now from the outside, this bar doesn't look very welcoming, but as soon as I stepped inside it was a whole other atmosphere. Just a reminder to never judge a book by its cover. Now the parking was a little small & there weren't many spaces open even on a Sunday night. So I can only imagine how packed it might get on Saturday or game night. However there was plenty of street parking available so it shouldn't be impossible to find parking in the area. I had a great time here, the bartenders were friendly and welcoming. There is also so much to look at as you step inside. It's Brooklyn themed and they have bikes on the ceiling, pictures, signs, etc. They also have many tv's in different areas of the bar so you won't miss the game. Towards the back of the bar there's two pool tables and plenty of seating. The drinks were cheap and I had a great time here to just relax and play pool. I am native to the South Bay, but admittedly, I don't usually spend a lot of time in Lawndale. I've driven by Brooklyn Bar hundreds of times and have never looked twice at the place... But a coworker dragged me along after work for a couple cold ones and I found myself quite impressed. The bar itself is quite spacious. They have a couple pool tables in the back, a good amount of tables to sit at, plus the bar. In terms of alcohol, its a beer only place, but they have a solid amount of beers on tap and plenty of others to choose from in either the bottle or can variety. They play awesome music (at least when I was there, it was mainly country and some classic and southern rock) and they have a solid selection of games to play. My favorite part however is the taco man outside... Holy hell they are some of the best I've had. I would go back strictly for the tacos. The asada were awesome, but the al pastor were definitely my favorite. All in all, its a cool and mellow place to have a few brews and scarf down some good tacos. Its got a fun and comfortable atmosphere and is a good watering hole for you and some friends. read more

Classic dive bar...dingy, loud and full of be liquor. If there were different customers and staff it might be great. They might be your kind of people. They are not for me. Starting at the crappy doorman, you will run into plenty of vulgarity and stupidity. Again, this IS about as divey as it gets. So if slimey seats and patrons do it for you, you'll love the management here. They have plenty of time to harass female patrons for perceived slights. The place formerly known as Big Johns. The new owners changed the name and fixed the place up and they did a good job cleaning the place up as well. Good beer selection and decent prices and a friendly staff. A big plus also is that they take debit and credit cards compared to when the place was big johns and it was cash only. They just opened on Thursday but the place has alot of potential and is a definite upgrade to how it used to be. read more

Brooklyn is a small bar in my neighborhood that I really enjoy visiting. They do only serve beer, but their selection is good and their tunes are usually great. A few pool tables and big selection of board games is a bonus. Always busy but never too crowded with a very friendly staff. This place used to called Big John's. They did a really nice job of upgrading the whole place. It used really be a dive bar, I was carded at the old place and I am 40+. Very friendly fun atmosphere. A great selection of craft beers. Pool tables, Jenna, darts.... They are open late and I stopped by after a late work day (ended 10pm), stayed until 1am, I think. Will definitely return. read more
