My friends and I were wandering around Redondo Beach when we saw a large "live karaoke" sign. Starboard Attitude is hidden on the second floor that you'll need to walk up some stairs too. I had a tequila sunrise and the bartender put in a good amount of liquor. It was only $5 too! They have live karaoke every night. Staff are friendly. There are restrooms in the back. It does what a dive bar does and the vibe is cool.

    Great local and awesome bands!!

Great bands! So much fun listening to Jeremiah Roiko ! This really made my weekend- after all the errands it's nice to be out in beautiful Redondo!

    The new upgraded exterior!!!!

My friends whom are musicians (Thanks Neil, Bill and Pete), all got together and threw me a Birthday jam session. I'm not a musician and I never sang with a band, but I do love me some music. This bar sits a top Charlie's on Redondo Beach pier just before the hot dog on a stick place. Apparently, it has gone through some exterior renovations and I thought it looked nice enough. A narrow staircase leads you upstairs. It's smallish for a place that offers live music. My friends tell me that the owner has also installed a new sound system. (It may have been called Charlie's a long time ago, as I think my Mom called it that) A full bar, though not much on tap for this beer drinker (Better head to Naja's if you like beer). I noticed they had Guinness in a can, but was mortified when she pulled an iced, one inch thick , over-sized mug and then wrang the can into it like she was doing the laundry. Expensive at $6.00 each, but it was the best they had to offer me. People I knew from high school and many new friends were there and after an unscheduled set from the house band, our friends graced the stage and tore it up with the Blues (My friend Bill Berry apparently lived in New Orleans for many years and played at jazz fest, who knew?...he was always the crazy older brother of Allison who gave me a ride home from school once, in his beat up old VW, and introduced me to the Ramons). There were some regulars in there, whom now resemble bar flies as opposed to beach bums of days gone by. Our crowd filled the place and we reminisced between sets (it was SO loud), we danced and laughed. BUT....when our group of guys stopped playing, the joint cleared out and fast. There were only two or three people left. It's hard to gage what the place is really like. They have the funniest ladies room, for a second I thought I was on an airplane it was so small. It actually felt smaller, but it was clean. I've been here before 10 years ago and I'm not sure how much I remember of it then, but I ill tell you this..... My Dad was a rocket scientist by day and a jazz drummer at night and he played here many times and many many many years ago. I have a memory of me wearing a dark blue one piece swimsuit with yellow whales on it, I was about 7 years old). He brought me to the beach and said that he would be watching me from the windows as he pointed to this very same bar. During the day I could see him fine as he sipped on johnny walker and he and I exchanged waving to each other throughout the day. As I left that evening, I paused at the very same spot where my Dad sat watching me on that summer day and looked out onto the beach. On this day, I was exactly the same age he was all those years ago and celebrating my year in a place he to would come to Jam......surreal.

Chantel the most awesome bartender in Redondo Beach!

After we sat down and ordered our first drink, a guy by the name of Chuck shows up with pizza's and sandwiches from Mickey's a deli icon in Hermosa Beach and tells us to help ourselves. We bought Chuck a couple of drinks for bringing the food. Soon another person shows up and buys a round for the whole bar. My nephew and his wife were in from out of town (Colorado Springs, Co) and were blown away by the local hospitality. Tom the bartender was generous with pours and the overall experience fantastic. They also have live music on the weekends. I'll have to catch a live band soon at the Hermosa Saloon.

There seemed to be a serving difference vibe between the locals and those of us who weren't, including strength of the drinks. The floor in front of the stage is deadly, and while there is a stripe of carpet that maybe is supposed to make people aware of the crazy drop, it's dark and people don't know why it's like that and many just kept tripping and falling. I swear it's a lawsuit in the making. The metal ring game would be amusing if it hadn't been for some drunk guys at the table next to us thinking it might be fun to continuously toss it in our direction. I don't see any reason to go back.

I believe that Holiday's matter, not as days that drive chocolate and flower sales, but as…read morereminders that whimsy should be celebrated to make life a bit more colorful and joyous. Scrooge might say "Bah! Humbug!" to festivities but, in other hand, say "hab gubmuh" to the days and seasons that bring mirth, hanging streamers and disco balls into our life, lest these be left in grayscale. That is why I was attracted to this bar because I wanted to know be drenched in red and pink glamour while all the way celebrating that very special feeling of love. As, soon I entered the door and saw the exaggerated decorations on the roof and on the walls, my immediate thought was "fun," not corny, or please with these hanging hearts and neon lights. Thus this place owns the trip to love land without apology, and I for one, say that this means that the festive goal hoped for hit heart center. I also went relatively early, in terms of bar crowd hours, and was surprised that the place was full to its arteries. Truth be told, that is why, I ticked one star of my overall rating because this place is cute and a vibe, and a worthy scene, but it is also small and packed to the point where folks are proverbial sardines in a tin can. But more on that later, right now, we start with what gave me anchor in place: their pool table. There is no place to sit, amidst the crowd, I automatically assessed. Where can I be to find my place? So I went to the table and played pool. I appreciated that the place had clearly articulated rules and procedures for play, which removed ambiguity and created a climate of respect toward the game, which allows for pool games where appropriate and competitive game play reigns. I managed to order a drink on theme for the night: a Misty Kiss. It was the bartender's suggestion, after I asked for their sweetest cocktail. When she first suggested it, I thought she said minty kiss, and thus when she delivered the drink, I was expecting some kind of shamrock shade. But then I heard the appropriate pronunciation- misty, not minty. I wondered when a literal misty kiss would be appropriate and beautiful? Then I remember scanning a picture book of love pictures, and one was of a woman saying goodbye to her sailor as he shipped of to fight in a world war, and I realized that the sadness in her eyes as she said goodbye was a form of a misty kiss. I took my Misty Kiss and played a game of pool with a guy named Matt. He revealed that he played every day, which explained why I did not stand a chance against a daily player, balance in talent simply did not exist. It was hard to find a spot to place my drink, which tasted swell, and was on brand for the evening, and quite stiff! It was hard to find a seat or a spot for me to call my own. And it was for others as well. I saw people going to the bathroom and needing to allocate themselves in near hunches to avoid the sticks of pool. And out in the crowd, people were huddled on the floor, not sure where to be so they could feel like they had a space of their own and did not bump with others. But there was no way to avoid bumping into others, and it was a mission to find a spot. That is why when I saw a table for two open up, I did a mad dash to an empty chair, like a fool in love who rushes in. It is at the chair where I could not only see but stop and admire the paper roses of the place. As my pictures show, the place truly did not limit itself from embracing the spirit of Valentine's day. For instance, they had this wall of decorations, with hearts, orbs (white, red, pink) teddy bears, and so much more; it was a tapestry hung just right for the occasion. Of course, people wanted to use the wall as the backdrop but with so many people, this too, required a wait and navigate plan. I did help some folks out by taking their pictures. I was not Cupid but in these moments I did hope that my aim was true. In the final analysis, I immensely appreciated the decorations, and all of the folks who dressed for the occasion, because it gave texture and meaning to the decor. But the tight quarters limited the love I can give to this place. However, I do know now where to go, where I want a themed drink, and environment to boot.

They've got a pool table to shoot your own shots too! Parking can be rough but do yourself a favor and everyone else and Uber. Loving all the holidays here! great job Paddy O's and staff!
