I really enjoyed my experience my 1st time there. I came back only to sit at the bar and be served by Darcy. Darcy was extremely helpful and professional. Although she was busy I never felt neglected. The conversation was great and her service. I will always/only come on the days Darcy work....she is the best. read more

I have dined here many times and enjoyed the experience, but the last several visits have shown a decline in service and ambience. The music has been far too loud the last few times we went and we couldn't even speak to one another across the table. This last week we stopped in after a show, expecting to grab a quick drink and maybe an appetizer or two. There was a 20 minute wait, which was fine. We sat at the bar after two other diners left, but the bar tender, whose backside and underwear greeted us first, never acknowledged that we were literally sitting there in front of him. There were so many people moving about, but not one person outside of the hostess at the door ever spoke to us or asked if we would like anything. The hostess never came back to get us for our table and after 30 minutes, we simply left. Perhaps it was because closing time was an hour and a half out. After three similar experiences, I can't see a reason to return. This was once our go-to spot, but that time has passed. read more

I previously rated Bronzeville Winery a 3 but I've been back a few more times since my first review. I am moving up in my review. What I do love about this place is it's got a positive vibe and it's black owned. The staff for me are the highlight. Everyone is friendly. Black staff dressed in black and loving on black is something the black community needs. The flow of energy is great. The music is really good. A nice space for people on the Southside. I am warming up to the food. I've tried different items and each gets better. I still think there is room for improvement on the food line but it's good. I am a food snob but I may get to a 5 next time. read more

Love having this place in the neighborhood. Good food, drinks, and live music/DJs. Great ambiance.

I was able to check out Bronzeville Winery with my mom and our childhood friends. This black-owned restaurant was everything and more. The service although good and the waiter was so kind we had someone missing an item. However they fixed it super quickly. The food was great, I need to go back and try more I wasn't entirely hungry so I had the poached pear salad with grilled shrimp. I'm not a huge getting a salad at a restaurant but they may have made me a believer! We also had to have a couple of glasses of wine which was delicious and smooth. The energy of the place was contagious! I'm not sure if it was the vibrant colors or just bright personalities but the place as a whole made me happy. As this was a meeting where I haven't seen my friend and my mom's friend since I was a kid we had to take a picture and the staff was so nice to take a few and making sure they actually looked good! I will have to come back for brunch because the menu looks amazing. read more

This is the perfect restaurant for dates or ladies night. The atmosphere is welcoming and the decor is modern, but unique. The menu showcases a few expected entrees, from salmon to flatbreads contrasted with the unexpected grilled watermelon steak. To reserve a table, you will need to pay a $10/pp fee that is deducted from your bill. Also, a 20% service fee is include on all bills, which is split between the bar and the server. We enjoyed the live music and the service was great. Looking forward to the next visit. read more

The atmosphere was nice It was a party for two It would've been nice to have both of your entrees at the table together. It's not enjoyable eating when you're guest is waiting on their food. Need to work on time management. read more

I really wanted to support this business but the prices and service are ridiculous! I wish the service would sbare more information about the wines/drinks but the service was slow. I paid over 28$ for a tiny glass of wine despite the menu stating drinks at $14. I know the pandemic has hurt small businesses, but I feel like I was taken advantage of instead of celebrating the local community. read more

I love the ambiance and the food, and I had a drink that I can't remember the name, but if it came in a bottle it would be mine.

Walked in for my reservation and was seated right away, everything else was downhill after that. Took 30 minutes to get cocktails, cocktails with no alcohol in them. That's like having a fashion show with no fashions, we'll just call this the She by Sheree of restaurants. Took over 90 minutes to get our food, not sure how they expect you to finish your meal within 90 minutes if it's not served to you within that time. Food was meh, owner walked in and did not acknowledge any of his customers, just came in to be seen I guess. Then they gave us a bill that had no comps (which were promised to us several times given the abysmal service) and still had the 2 alcohol-less drinks on the bill. Will never go back, save your money, save your time. read more

Dined in recently for their happy hour and I must say my experience was top notch. The ambiance of the restaurant is a vibe in itself, it's welcoming and gives you that community feel. My server was super nice and accommodating. She let us sample a few different wines. We ordered a variety of the HH food offerings with the lamp chops being the star of the show. I wish they offered them on their full menu. The food was flavorful, fresh and served hot (which is something I look for in a restaurant). The drinks were really good as well. I'm looking forward to future visits to the winery! read more

It's a beautiful establishment located in the Bronzeville neighborhood. I went on a Sunday evening and it was relatively busy so I'm glad I had a reservation. I was greeted warmly and seated pretty quickly. They had a live jazz band playing which was a nice accompaniment to my dining experience. The highlights of my visit were the salmon and cheesecake. The drinks were not as good as I hoped. One thing I will say is pay attention to the bill because there is a service charge applied. read more

If I could give this place zero stars, I would. This place *PRIDES* itself as a "plant-based" restaurant. Yet clearly, THE CHEF DOES NOT EVEN KNOW WHAT THE WORD VEGAN/PLANT-BASED means. I was so excited to book a date night with my wife where I could eat animal protein and she could eat a real vegan meal. Oh, but what a mistake.... Warning to all plant-based diet eaters: The "Vegan Burger" is NOT fit for a vegan. The bun is a conventional ole' enriched and eggy bun. The alternative is a gluten free bun. But ultimately, there is not vegan bun offering on the "Vegan Burger." Yea, your eyes are not deceiving you. This means no one that runs this place knows what the word vegan means. Maybe this doesn't seem to be a problem to the restaurant, or non-vegan eaters. But even if you don't have a severe allergy to dairy or animal products, not having eaten those foods in an extended period will make it a painful and unpleasant experience the rest of the night and next day. If not death from a true allergy! Dear Bronzeville Winery "leader in the hospitality industry" and founder of the Nascent Group Cecilia Cuff, It seems you have FAILED in executing what you set out to do - create a sustainable, eloquent, interesting and dynamic menu. I encourage you to spend as much time looking up what "vegan" means as you did on your website and self-lauding. Or hire a chef, or a real one, if you allege you did. You could seriously injure a customer because of this enormous oversight. I should have been wary from the start when the server did not know what basic ingredients were or were not vegan-friendly (Parmesan CHEESE vs oil...). But this is not their fault - again, gigantic suit-worthy oversight of the managing staff and chef. read more

I wish I had food pics but it was so good I forgot to take a pic. The cheese plate was giving Queen status on a whole new level! We all had different cocktails and each one was crafted perfectly. We had the flatbread, Spanish cod fritters and Mac n cheese...all amazing! Great quailing, presentation and taste. My friend joined their membership too. Can't wait to go back and try more of their wine and food selections. Thank you to the owner, management and staff for bringing a beautiful space, delicious food and elevated experience! read more

I visited Bronzeville Winery for brunch with my boyfriend and what stood out to us the most was how friendly the staff were during every point of our dining experience. The vibes of the restaurant were also nice. I got the chicken and waffles which were the best chicken and waffles I have had so far. They came with some maple syrup and hot sauce that paired very well with the dish. My boyfriend got the shrimp and grits and it was the first time that we had tried it in general and they were amazing, definitely raised the bar for the future shrimp and grits dishes we may try. We also had a side of their beef bacon which was very delicious. We also got the flight of mimosas (I wish I remembered the different flavors) which was very delicious. The only thing that I did not like was that our server pushed the flight of mimosas onto us. I wanted to check the price before proceeding but got dismissed (and it also was not on the menu), did not let us say how many we wanted and proceeded to bring two flights when we could have shared one, especially since they were strong and we had to get on the road after. Both flights ended up being as expensive as our food. I wish I got to ask my questions before hand to prevent this from happening because only one was necessary but besides that I definitely recommend. I am hoping to visit Bronzeville Winery next time for dinner. read more

Went here on a double date during restaurant week, and did the 60 dollar dinner option. I have only heard good things about this place and was pretty excited to give it a try. Unfortunately my expectations were no where near met, I had an exceptionally below average experience. From service, to ambiance, to food quality everything was lacking in my opinion. The portion sizes were fairly small for a fairly expensive dinner, to the point where we were seeking food afterwards. One of my friends fried chicken came out underdone, leaving chicken juices and blood soaking up their dinner plate. The portion of the steak frites was underwhelming and looked nothing like the full dinner portion. What good moments we had at dinner, were lessened by the club volume music they were playing. For an upscale winery the music volume did not match our or anyone's expectations. Finally, our server was fine and that's it, after hearing about the undercooked chicken she took the plate and left, then returned and asked if my friend would like something else? Why not ask when taking the plate, why not try everything within your power to make the situation right then in the moment? Was the chicken removed from the ticket, no. Did the waitress seem to actually care that we were unsatisfied, no. I would try this place once again, but it would take a while, and I wouldn't do the restaurant week dinner again, we absolutely felt like we were played seeing the bill. read more

My visit here started off a little bit shaky. Upon entering, my friend decided she did not want to partake of the menu for restaurant week. However, we were told that in order for one to partake, we both had to, weird! Not sure that any other venues operate this exact same way. Not wanting to be problematic, we decided to stay, it turned out to be a good experience. Interesting combination of foods, and we left satisfied. The Uncle Yams Old Fashion is really good, I highly recommend it. In the future, I think I will return just to drink. read more

Nothing was terrible but then again nothing stood out. We spent just upwards of $100 for 3 cocktails, one appetizer & two entrees. Right now the sweet potato are complimentary but I did notice they're on the appetizer menu. The staff is extremely accommodating however the service is a lil slow. The drink didn't come out until after the appetizer was all but done. The shrimp were huge but the accompanying remoulade was scarce. The gnocchi was ok, pasta was cooked to perfection but not a whole lot going on flavor wise. The watermelon steak was different to say the least. Twas like a grilled piece of watermelon which was a welcoming different dish. The drink were stiff & I enjoyed the creamsicle one more than my whisky cocktail which was supposed to reminiscent of sweet potato & garnished with marshmallows. I have to mention that my wife was perturbed that albeit being named "Bronzeville Winery" that their weren't any special not local wines featured on the menu. read more

In visiting Chicago I was looking for a nice black owned restaurant with good vibes and drinks. And wow this place did not disappoint. We didn't make a reservation so make sure you do that before going. We did get a chance to sit at the bar and had the most amazing bartender. She knew all the wines and what paired with what meal. It was the perfect combo. We started off with the brussel sprouts that were phenomenal and my entree was the seafood gnocchi was amazing. I will definitely be back when I visit again. read more

First time at this establishment after wanting to try it for some months. Now that i work in the area it was the perfect opportunity. Street parking was available so that could go either way. Went on a Thursday night after work and there was a nice amount of people dining in. When we walked in I loved the dim cozy atmosphere and they had a bar as well if you didn't want to dine at a table. Our waitress unfortunately i can't remember her name but she was awesome ( she had locs). We did the sweet red wine tasting. For our entree i had the salmon with spinach and sweet potato purée the salmon was a little under seasoned for my taste but decent. My friend had the seafood gnocchi and he liked it. There was a DJ with lightly playing music in the background. It's definitely a place to try. I'll be back read more

Loved everything about this restaurant: the scene, the service, and especially the food. The vibe is affluent yet friendly, so you might want to dress at least business casual to visibly fit in. The service was accommodating, as anyone was happy to assist if you have a question and your server wasn't nearby. My gnocchi dish was one of the best pasta dishes I've had in a long time. The pasta-to-meat ratio (as it came with scallops and shrimp) was perfect, the cream sauce was rich and flavorful, and the veggies and garnish added a uniqueness to the dish that makes it hard to forget. I appreciated the complimentary sweet potato ribbons that replaced the usual bread that is served at other restaurants, as it was a nice, light snack that didn't fill you up before the main dish arrives. I had a nice light glass of white wine; my partner enjoyed his Old Fashioned (though he didn't need the marshmallow garnishes, I liked them, haha). This is a great spot to wow someone at, especially if you want to highlight and support black excellence. read more

The ambiance is great! our waitress was extremely knowledgeable about all the items on the menu, and the appetizers (shrimp/Brussels) were very good. The Entrees (medium Salmon) were just okay, with no seasoning, and a very bland taste. I really wanted to love this place. I wanted this spot to be my go to when family is in town. This place is black owned so when they shine; I shine and I really wanted this place to shine. I can't tell you anything about the food, wine or cocktails here. We left after an hour of being served nothing. It took 18 mins for a waiter to come over and about 30 mins to just get water. At the 30 min mark, we finally had our orders taken. Our waiter promised to return and we never saw him again. He was sure to tell us that they were short staffed, which the public should never know. I'm just disappointed and I take this personally as a black culinarian. I hope they take feedback and get it together cause this place still has a chance. read more

I recently had the opportunity and privelage to venture in to Bronzeville Winery for the 2nd time in two weeks, and Chef Whitney McMorris can not and will not disappoint. A few close friends and I were sat at the Chef's table and the service was, again, of a top tier caliber truly unlike anything I've experienced before. Firstly, it must be said that the Chef immediately provides a warm and welcoming atmosphere that helps you settle into a night of fun, excitement and deliciousness right away. She brings a sense of style and grace that is all her own which makes for a brilliant vibe of familiarity and comradery that is quite palpable. You can tell she is veritably happy to see you. This feeling carries throughout the night as each team member you encounter shares this same sentiment. It makes you feel as if you are right where you're suppose to be in that moment. Our server Kha'Azra was highly knowledgeable and clearly enjoys what she does, as she was extremely professional, yet incredibly approachable. She truly was a joy, and each time she returned to our table her presence was something to look forward to as she ushered us through the night. Her cocktail pairings and recommendations were a welcomed addition to the wonderment we were continually feeling. With Chef Whitney presenting each course, every menu item left us in awe of her undeniable talent. We couldn't help being overwhelmed with curiosity and enticement as each course was served. The complimentary Sweet Potatoe Curls were simply delicious and showed an elegance that was a constant throughout service. The Brussel Sprouts, which are normally not for me, were by far the best vegetable appetizer I've had the pleasure of trying, with a sweet sesame glaze that begs to be bottled and sold. The Salmon was perfectly cooked and had so many flavor elements I just had to inquire again with the chef on each component, to which she happily obliged. The Watermelon Steak was impressively crafted and a jubilee to the tastebuds. With a smokey char on the outside so similar to an actual steak, and juiciness unlike anything you've likely tasted, you have to wonder just how she concocted such an amazingly cohesive dish. Everything on the plate leaves you blown away. The Filet Mignon, with a beautifully innovative garden made up of all sorts of delicious morsels and tidbits waiting for you to find is almost too gorgeous to eat. Almost. It is perhaps the most whimsical entree on the entire menu. These were just a few of the dishes we were fortunate enough to get to try, but everything was categorically flawless. Dessert was a delectable warm Peach Cobbler Pie (Justice of the Pies) served with coffee ice cream and paired with an Espresso Martini that went hand in hand like a match made in heaven. Amy, the general manager presented us with our final course and was without a doubt the cherry on top of the whole experience. You can feel the excellence and professionalism she brings to the table, and she too was such a delight to take in. It was the end to a perfect night. Without question, we will be back. Everyone, whether a food connoisseur, critic or just someone looking to try something new owes it to themselves to give Bronzeville Winery the time of day, or night. You absolutely will not regret it and will be a fan for life. I can not wait to see what Chef McMorris has planned for us all next, but I am certain it will be masterfully executed. read more
