Communication is awful. Had my son in swimming lessons . And they will always cancel last minute. And never email or call us. We will find out after arriving in person for the class. Which was very annoying. Pool was always shut down for some maintenance which was a red flag. And that locker room was filthy , sauna never worked, eater bugs all over , showers also were broken. Air flow in this place is very poor. Not good for the lungs and children. Gym is filthy. Repairs need to get done and ppl are still working out breathing that dust and dander in. read more

Bronx House used to be a wonderful community resource, with caring staff and programming that met the needs of all ages, ranging from early childhood to seniors. I loved visiting Bronx House with my family, and telling others about this neighborhood jewel. It was never 'fancy,' but it always met our needs. It has been heartbreaking to see how quickly Bronx House has gone downhill while Howie does nothing to fix the problem. The Afterschool staff does not follow the most basic safety precautions. Bussing is unsafe (children are not given seats,) and the counselors do not intervene if the children act violently. Kids throw chairs and detached floor tiles at each other in plain view of Counselors who sit back and watch. The plumbing has not been properly installed, resulting in frequent floods and water damage, with mold and roaches throughout the building. Clients have fallen down wet stairs, and had ceiling tiles fall and hit them on the head. Male staff linger in the women's locker room, and have sexually assaulted clients at Bronx House. This is compounded by the fact that leadership DOES NOT CARE. Program Directors are aware that Bronx House is out of compliance, and yet do not even fill out incident reports when they witness a safety violation. Claiming medical restrictions, Bronx House's CEO Howie Martin has not come back to work on-site, and instead delegates the day to day operations of Bronx House to the same Program Directors who have overseen the current decline. I seriously cannot understand how this establishment has the poor quality air flow it does. I have lived in this area for 20 years. And its the same old same old. Tiny work out spaces with 3 little barely working fans that blow lots of hot air. Today I visited the spaces to see of anything changed so I could sign up for their classes and not only because its the same old hot building but you also have to wear a mask. I tell you I nearly passed out in the few minutes that I spent there to check if anything changed since 10 years ago. I am not against mask one bit, Covid is real and kills. But dam... where is the air flow in this place , MOST especially for the price tag that goes along with this membership. This is really a shame. This building is old, with the exception of the new wood boards on some of the floor in the small work out studio/ spin class room,fresh paint, and new faces. The New swim Director letef at Bronx House was great. everyone should take his class.

Signed my son up for private swimming classes here and was never informed although I had conversations with the aquatics director and the staff that bill that program fees were non-refundable. Well first class, I learned they have no changing places for kids other than pop up tents where an adult doesn't fit to help a 5 yr old change and dry up. Aquatics director suggested I let my son go into the male locker room alone to change?! A 5 yr old w grown men? Apparently he's too old to go into the female locker room? I guess pedophila isn't taken seriously here. Pool area has a leak and black mold growing on walls and papers posted- health hazard! Instructor was nice but will never sign up for anything else here or DONATE money to a place that lacks transparency, disregards child safety and is clearly unsanitary everywhere. I'm looking at earlier reviews and that's not the way I feel about their staff. They were nice and very helpful. A pop-up COVID vaccine event ended a half hour earlier and I showed up as they were packing up. I needed it for my job being that I work as a home care aid. I asked if they could make a note for my boss to show I was there and they made an Immediate exception and brought me into their coordinator. She also helped me set up an appointment at CVS for that night. I believe that they are making improvements there and they deserve recognition. Thanks again... read more

I've been trying to get in contact with the "camp coordinator " for about a month and they never answer the phone so I decide to walk in the guy at the front desk was SO rude! he barely wanted to give me information he just pointed to the camp brochure and basically told me to read it. he seemed bothered to answer any questions I had regarding camp & scholarships they offered, he even helped other people while helping me not fully giving me his attention, (basically brushing me off) it was just a horrible experience especially for a place that is asking for almost 3 thousand dollars for summer camp. First impressions are everything and I must say with the way I was treated I can't even begin to imagine how rude they are to the children! read more

Do yourself a favor. Do not spend a dime there. Worst customer service of all time. I called them on the phone to inquire about becoming a member and the swim classes. The boss lady put me on hold for about 25 minutes only to tell me that I have to come in person to the location. Ok no problem. I drove there. I filled out a form and was told to wait for the swimming instructor. I waited for about an hour for instructor Eric. Dude came out to tell me this " I am not taking anybody today, come another day." And he left before I say anything. The front desk lady treated me nicely. But the instructor Eric and the boss lady were so dismissive and rude. You can see the pool while waiting. Such a small and crowded pool !! And feel free to take a look at their swimming schedule. While waiting I circled the times adults can swim, and it is like 2 to 3 hours a week. I joined Bronx House Fitness Center and Senior Center in Sept 2019. I enjoy my daytime Zumba Classes and my Tai Chi classes. I recently signed up for one on one, 30 min, 3 session training with Joelis. I am both pleased and happy with my entire experience at Bronx House. Please note I am not new to the fitness world. Bronx house day camp should improve on the communication process when deciding on dismissing a child from the camp. Be aware that if your child has any problem with his peers at camp they will dismiss the child without any refunds. They are crooks! Not even a days notice to find another accommodation for your child. $3000 for a camp that can let your child go at any given moment and you loose big time! You loose money and your job if you work in a place that has a strict attendance policy and you don't have anyone to watch your child. They leave you to fend for your self without a care in the world ! Horrible people, and horrible policy at least give a partial refund or assistant to the parent in finding the necessary accommodation for their child. read more

After fruitlessly searching for a place to do yoga at a reasonable price in the Bronx, I got much more than I bargained for. Bronx House sports an Olympic-sized swimming pool, men and women's sauna rooms (a little worse for wear, but they work), a fitness room with a decent (not excellent) selection of free weights and Cybex machines, plus various Lifecycle treadmills, stationery bicycles, Stairmasters and the like. There is a full court basketball gymnasium downstairs, where you can run fullcourt, halfcourt or play handball, depending on the schedule that day. They also have Pilates classes, spinning, aquaerobics, seniors classes, all included for one low, monthly rate: $40. Unbelievable. They also have music, dance instruction and summer camp for children, at typically expensive rates. Go to the website, there's tons more stuff they offer. There is always something going on, and the mix of people is as varied as you can imagine. Seniors pack the cafeteria every day for a complete lunch: $1. They have daycare for kids, sponsor trips for teenagers, even have job training. If you're looking for a spotless, ultramodern fitness center full of young professionals and hardbodies, keep looking. If you'd be happy with a cheap YMCA-type place where you can wear your old sweatpants, you'll feel right at home here. read more

It is extremely difficult to find an affordable gym with a swimming pool. During the summer I could get away with the NYC Parks free lap swim program but during the rest of the year I have to find a real gym that does not hurt your wallet (or require you to sell your organs on ebay). The Bronx House solves that problem for me. I am a big fan of the variety of fitness class offerings and indoor cycling is the most popular (the class fills up right after the previous ab class). Cherelle, who leads this class on Tuesdays, is a great trainer and puts the hurt locker on while making exercise on a stationary bike "fun". The pool is 25 yards and way shorter than an olympic size pool (50 meters). Size matters, eh? During lap swim hours, the pool is divided into two lanes: slow and slower. For those who need a good workout, be prepared to swim around your neighbors. During the summer, test your patience with all of the visitors with day passes. The gym and pool hours are limited and designated for classes and gender/age groups. If the location works for you and you can accept the limited schedules, join the Bronx House. The gym, with the TRX equipment alone is superior to most of the $20 gyms in the area. Make sure to review the calendar for holiday and maintenance closings. I started going to Bronx House because I live a couple of blocks away. I love it! The fitness center is never packed so I can pretty much use whatever equipment I want to use and I rarely have to wait. Coming from planet fitness it's great! There's a pool and different yoga, pilates, core, spin, etc. classes and they're great! My biggest complaint is that sometimes Mother's will have their young sons in the locker room with them. There's a sign that says no boys 4+ but I've seen 8-10 year olds in there. Just kind of annoying!! Other than that, turn up the a/c and it's great!! read more

Disappointing Policy. On Thursday November 15, 2018 my family and I had tickets to attend a performance of Madagascar Jr. at the Bronx House. Unbeknownst to the entire City of New York, the snowstorm predicted to be 1-inch, was 6 inches, caused traffic congestion, train suspensions and literally had the city at a standstill. The Bronx House chose to not cancel or reschedule the show. As early as 4:30PM the delays and transportation suspensions were known and were being reported on all news channels. If patrons were relying on public transportation to get to the facility, there was no #2 or #5 train service, buses were stuck, and this would present a significant safety risk as well as uncertainty as to when they would reach home. Many residents of New York City had commutes upwards of 7 hours yesterday. I reached out to the Bronx House on Friday November 16, 2018 to inquiry about a refund for the three tickets purchased and was informed, "unfortunately, the policy of the Bronx House is that there are no refunds or exchanges for purchased tickets." As like all policies there is always an exception to policy. The fact that the organization would not consider an exception to policy under these circumstances is extremely disappointing. The fact that families are being penalized for circumstances beyond their control is beyond comprehension. The fact that a community based organization would put finances before the safety of children and families of the community is disappointing. They have a pool but with very limited hours for adults. When the pool is open, there are always old men occupying it who swim in circles around the pool and bark at people who try to do laps. So basically you're stuck behind at least one slow-moving mass and occasionally get grazed by long yellow toenails. In the fitness center there are occasionally creepy men who make catcalls and obscene gestures at young women exercising. Not sure why any family would take their children here. Also the hours are short - it closes at 5pm on the weekends. To make it even worse, the young guy in the fitness center herd people out way before closing time. read more

It's a place where adults and children can do extracurricular activities especially in the summer. They also offer music class (as a group or private lessons). I think the prices for different activities are reasonable and it's in close proximity to local restaurants. The activities are offered all year long. The only down side of even paying for a membership is the access to the pool is limited because they hold classes almost all day long. read more

This place is a joke. I worked here for years and they didn't even have the decency to let me know i was not welcomed back until I reached out, so unprofessional. I was a great group leader for the children, but they decided to let me go for no good reasons just cheap excuses. For parents that are trying to look for an after-school program this is not the one. Look for a better organized after-school program, with specialist available for all types of activities for your child, they lack specialist all the time. Group Leaders have to make-up our own activities for the children. The kids love swim but the pool is filthy, the locker rooms are filthy with roaches and mice, as well as the rooms and gym basically everywhere. They rarely provide board games for children even if they say they do. The staff is treated poorly and if the staff isn't treated fairly that energy will reflect on the kids and they will notice something is wrong. So do not waste your money or time on this after-school program when there are much better programs that are able to surround your children with positive energy. read more
