Croissant Breakfast Sandwich
Marissa M.

This is my fav Broken Yolk location. The staff is so friendly and food comes out fast. I love the corned beef , 2 egg plate with the home fries and sourdough. Had a bite of my husbands egg sandwich and it was yummy. My mom got the no name, very yummy also. My husband got a complimentary churro French toast for his bday, so delicious! :)

Two Eggs Plus meal

Someone once gave me a gift card for a Broken Yolk Cafe, which I've never actually been to a location before. When heading recently to San Diego with my wife, I finally got an opportunity to go there for breakfast/brunch one day. We went to the Del Mar location and had some delicious food, good service, and enjoyed a nice ambiance for brunch. My wife ordered an omelete with potatoes and a blueberry muffin. I ordered a "two eggs plus" with cheesy scrambled eggs, fresh fruit, and a blueberry muffin. We then redeemed my birthday coupon for a free short stack of Cinna-Cakes, which my wife and I shared. We both saved our muffins for later, though between the Cinna-Cakes, the fruit, potatoes, and eggs, we had plenty to enjoy. Everything was tasty, and the portions were generous. We were able to sit down almost immediately upon arrival as we joined the waitlist through the app/website when we were en route to the restaurant. You can also order online at the website (https://www.thebrokenyolkcafe.com) as well as see the menu, learn about catering and how to franchise your own location, and learn about the background of the Broken Yolk Cafe. While they have a location in Arizona, they actually first opened in 1979 in San Diego. They have been featured on Man vs Food and now have 40 locations with 10 more in development. Join the Rewards Club by going to https://www.thebrokenyolkcafe.com/rewards. You can register online and receive a special bonus of a free short stack of pancakes when you register. You then earn points for every dollar spent which can be redeemed for free food. Then, for your birthday, you get a free short stack of Cinna-Cakes, Belgian Waffle, or Churro French Toast. There are also many specials including Mega-Mosa for $7 and 20% off BLTs during National BLT Day. I can certainly use some more Cinna-Cakes again soon!

Broken Yolk Cafe in Del Mar is a charming and cozy spot for brunch, and the overall vibe was pleasant. I decided to try the mimosa sampler, which sounded like a fun touch to my meal. Unfortunately, one of the drinks was served to me in a broken glass, which was really disappointing and, honestly, a bit unsafe. What added to the letdown was seeing another table receive the same sampler, beautifully decorated with fresh fruit and a much nicer presentation--something I wish I had received too. That said, the staff was friendly, and the food itself was decent, so I might give it another try in the future. Just hoping for a more consistent experience next time--especially when it comes to something as simple (and potentially hazardous) as glassware.

Soy matcha

Stopped by for breakfast and enjoyed the clean atmosphere. Like many other places, they have a shared lot and parking was not a problem. Food quality was average and portion sizes were good. Soy matcha - I appreciate how our waitress made sure I did not have any dairy allergies Salmon avo toast- large portion but for the price, it's about right. Bread was fine but avo did not taste fresh and tasted more like frozen pre packaged avo. Kids pancake with double bacon- Good sized portion with crispy bacon Kids oatmeal with everything on the side- Tends to be more runny if you prefer this texture. Plenty of strawberries and blueberries given Kids chicken strips with fries and bacon- 2 pieces of chicken and fries were cooked perfectly (crispy but not overdone) Salmon benedict- taste was fine but nothing extraordinary. Service was good but food quality was just ok.

Spicy Vegan Breakfast Bowl

Yummy food, great service, clean and chill environment! Would definitely come again. We ordered the vegan spicy bowl (definitely spicy!!!) and the hash skillet. My mom really enjoyed her meal and I enjoyed mine! Very filling

Chicken & Waffle Benedict
Benjamin Z.

I'd give Broken Yolk a 3.5 out of 5. I had the Chicken and Waffles Benedict. The taste was solid. The chicken was well seasoned, and the hollandaise sauce was decent. But the portion was small, especially for the price. I was left still hungry, which isn't ideal for brunch. Others in our group ordered skillet dishes. The portion sizes on those looked better, but they weren't actually served in skillets. That felt a little misleading. One person had the country fried steak and said it was a bit dry. The service was where things really fell short. Our waters and coffee cups were left empty for long stretches, and it felt like the servers weren't really checking in. The place itself is clean and has a typical brunch vibe. It's a nice atmosphere, just not very memorable. Overall, not a bad spot, but not great either. Some good flavors, but the small portions and lackluster service keep it in the middle range for me.

Cali Breakfast Burrito & Cinna-Cakes

Anytime we heading from LA to SD, we stop at this specific Broken Yolk location for breakfast! The vibe is great, the food is amazing, and the service is always excellent and fast thanks to our waitress Kelly. You can tell she cares about providing her customers the best and friendliest service. Will always be coming back here! Highly recommend the breakfast burger, cali breakfast burrito, & Cinnacakes!

Entrance

Not busy on Sundays before 11:30am. It does get packed minutes before noon though. There's lots of seating inside, outside, and at the bar, so you shouldn't have any problems getting seated within a few minutes. Always a delicious choice for brunch.

Kids French toast
Annie D.

Took the the girls here (nieces) for breakfast before Legoland. We were seated right away at 9am on a Sunday morning. Service was prompt. They have a great kids menu with a lot of options. French toast and Border Benedict were disappointing. The corn cake was more like corn bread and didn't really match with carne asada bc it was too sweet. French toast was chewy and too eggy. Pancakes and skillet were really good. Overall, it wasn't the worse nor the best experience but great for kids. I would recommending sticking with the more traditional items.

Monte Cristo
Titan N.

Had brunch here at 11AM on a Sunday. Zero wait. Great 10/10 service. Here's what we got: Mimosa Flight was 9/10 - light and refreshing. Balanced fruity flavors with just the right amount of sparkling. No one will get drunk from them. Cute to share and pass around. Highly recommend. Monte Cristo (French toast brioche 'sandwich' with ham and cheese, served with a side of strawberry compote) was 7/10 - not noteworthy to me in terms of flavor. I enjoyed the texture of the French toast. The strawberry was a nice touch for some sweetness on top of the savory ham. Now here's where most of my disappointment lies, the hashbrowns. I am a hashbrown FAN, but the serving I received here was just so plain, mushy, and uncrispy :( We walked out of brunch full, unsatisfied by the hashbrowns, while raving about the unexpectedly enjoyable mimosas.

Hi, what's included in Happy Hour? Thanks?

We don't have a happy hour but right now our mimosa special is $5 mimosa and $7 mimosa flight.

I saw a user post that you have Happy Hour from 12-3pm. Is that weekends only, weekdays only, or 7 days a week?

Hi Marc! Thanks for reaching out. Our Happy Hour runs Monday - Friday, 12 to 3pm. Have a good day!!!

There's free parking in the back and street parking in the front. This place is known for their breakfast but their other items are just as good. We recently found out the Chicken Fettuccine Al Pesto is the owners Italian mother's recipe. My youngest son enjoys getting this dish. My favorite breakfast dishes are the chicken and waffle, country fried steak and french toasts. They perfectly bread the chicken and the homemade country gravy it adds that extra goodness to the meal. I also like the fresh pressed juices and I have requested plantation ice tea. It ice tea with pineapple juice. The decor is too cute. It's a mix with a farm cafe type of feel. Overall, we will keep dining here. Always great service, yummy food and good memories!

Located just blocks away from the water and situated with an amazing view, Naked Cafe has nothing to hide but this hidden gem is off the well traveled highway 101 serving patrons inside and outside of their cozy bungalow-styled establishment. As you arrive (for many by foot), consider seating yourself at one of the many umbrella-shaded tables or venture inside to grab a seat. I saw a few folks with dogs so if you plan to come with your furry friend, the place seems to be well suited for them. For those looking to order takeout, simply walk up to the register and the staff will get you started. Their menu includes a variety of options like wraps, burritos, salads, bowls, tacos, pancakes, and other brunch-like items. Their drink menu is also extensive including alcohol like wines, mimosa and beer as well as coffees, teas and smoothies. You're bound to find something fitting that craving of yours or satisfying the nutrients needed for energizing your metabolism. I ended up ordering the pesto chicken wrap that also came with a side of chips. The wrap was loaded with succulent pieces of chicken and was very flavorful. The whole grain tortilla held up well throughout the meal and had good texture with each bite. The chips that came along were decent - had good crunch but lacked any kind of flavor. Fortunately the salsa came in clutch to kick things up a notch. The portions were also better than I had expected. The staff were friendly, efficient in placing our order and packaging it up, and thorough in fulfilling the order by including utensils and napkins as they handed the order to us. For takeout orders, they had given us an approximate wait time of 15 minutes and it was quite accurate. There wasn't much space to wait near the register so we ended up waiting near the front entrance near the sidewalk but after the 15 minutes, we made our way back to see that our order was in the process of getting packed up. Overall, Naked Cafe is a great spot to grab a light meal or lunch while soaking in so rays. With its open seating area covered only by the umbrellas at each table, you'll bask in the open air while consuming delicious plates made to order with fresh ingredients and healthy and sustainable options. For those with strict diets, you might want to seek this place out and see for yourself. The menu is anything but bare at Naked Cafe!

(editing to add this is a French-owned and Black-owned business, in case folks are looking!)…read more I usually come here when I'm doing errands on Cedros - and I usually just want to get my français on and order a café crème and a croissant. But today I needed a little extra je ne sais quoi because my morning was annoying, so I decided to splurge on lunch and not just a pastry here. I asked Steve, the (très beau et gentille!) co-owner what the quiche of the day was. There were two: one with jambon (ham) and one with épinards et fromage de chèvre (spinach and goat cheese). When I hesitated, he told me that the spinach one was amazing. Even though it's $20 for a quiche plate, I decided to go for it. I thought I was going to get a sad little quiche slice for that amount and might regret it. But OMG, it was more than worth it! Already they have a lovely patio on this pretty street in this fancy design district. But it was also a HUGE and exceptionally savory rectangular slice, alongside a DELECTEABLE petite salade. I asked Steve what mustard they use in the vinaigrette, and he said plain old Dijon - but the proportions and the seasoning were EXCELLENT. So it was salad perfection, not heavily dressed at all, just delightful. The patio was full on a Friday with ladies who lunch - but did that include me, as a solo diner, since I am a lady who had lunch? I'm not sure, but you can feel comfortable here no matter what. And now I know Madeleine Cafe is much too good to just come for coffee and for ordering in French from Steve or his co-owner Emmanuel.
