Our favorite place to come for Sunday brunch after church when visiting my in-laws. Daphne was our waitstaff today and she was brilliant--vibrantly friendly, generously efficient (refilling our coffee when our cups were half full), and all-around so cheerfully hardworking. I enjoyed my feta avocado toast with arugula and balsamic drizzle (4.5/5). My husband's Ranchero skillet had scalloped potatoes, eggs and chorizo was flavorful (5/5). I grew up in La Jolla and would go to the original Broken Yolk location down in Pacific Beach often. I loved it then and still love it now. Every time I come to Broken Yolk I always get a great meal and service is always lightning fast. This Del Mar location is probably my favorite of all of them because there is a large free parking lot directly in front that is never too crowded and the servers are always very friendly here. It can get quite crowded some mornings, but usually it's not as bad as some other places around town. The food is consistently good and the menu is very large so it's a great option for breakfast on any occasion. Inside is quite large and can host many different sized groups from small to large. For this breakfast, I chose a Build Your Own Omelette and added the hollandaise on top which I highly recommend. When heading recently to San Diego with my wife, I finally got an opportunity to go there for breakfast/brunch one day. Monte Cristo (French toast brioche 'sandwich' with ham and cheese, served with a side of strawberry compote) was 7/10 - not noteworthy to me in terms of flavor. I enjoyed the texture of the French toast. The strawberry was a nice touch for some sweetness on top of the savory ham. Now here's where most of my disappointment lies, the hashbrowns.
