I grew up in La Jolla and would go to the original Broken Yolk location down in Pacific Beach often. I loved it then and still love it now. Every time I come to Broken Yolk I always get a great meal and service is always lightning fast. This Del Mar location is probably my favorite of all of them because there is a large free parking lot directly in front that is never too crowded and the servers are always very friendly here. It can get quite crowded some mornings, but usually it's not as bad as some other places around town. The food is consistently good and the menu is very large so it's a great option for breakfast on any occasion. Inside is quite large and can host many different sized groups from small to large. For this breakfast, I chose a Build Your Own Omelette and added the hollandaise on top which I highly recommend. Daphne was our waitstaff today and she was brilliant--vibrantly friendly, generously efficient (refilling our coffee when our cups were half full), and all-around so cheerfully hardworking. I enjoyed my feta avocado toast with arugula and balsamic drizzle (4.5/5). My husband's Ranchero skillet had scalloped potatoes, eggs and chorizo was flavorful (5/5). When heading recently to San Diego with my wife, I finally got an opportunity to go there for breakfast/brunch one day. Broken Yolk Cafe in Del Mar is a charming and cozy spot for brunch, and the overall vibe was pleasant. I decided to try the mimosa sampler, which sounded like a fun touch to my meal. Unfortunately, one of the drinks was served to me in a broken glass, which was really disappointing and, honestly, a bit unsafe. What added to the letdown was seeing another table receive the same sampler, beautifully decorated with fresh fruit and a much nicer presentation--something I wish I had received too. That said, the staff was friendly, and the food itself was decent, so I might give it another try in the future. The portion sizes on those looked better, but they weren't actually served in skillets. That felt a little misleading. One person had the country fried steak and said it was a bit dry. French toast and Border Benedict were disappointing. The corn cake was more like corn bread and didn't really match with carne asada bc it was too sweet. French toast was chewy and too eggy. Had brunch here at 11AM on a Sunday. Zero wait. Great 10/10 service. Here's what we got: Mimosa Flight was 9/10 - light and refreshing. Balanced fruity flavors with just the right amount of sparkling. No one will get drunk from them. Cute to share and pass around. Highly recommend. Monte Cristo (French toast brioche 'sandwich' with ham and cheese, served with a side of strawberry compote) was 7/10 - not noteworthy to me in terms of flavor. After reading through our menu our server Savanah was nice and helped me choose among my top 3 choices. I went with the salsa verde chilaquiles per her suggestion and my wife got the rancher omelette. We also got the pineapple mimosas to wash it all down. The food was great although I will say the chilaquiles were a little overbearing with the green salsa. I'm not a fan of soggy and wet chilaquiles but the taste and quality was good along with the carne asada they put in them. We also got an order of the tiki toast for desert and it was amazing, we took one piece leftover for the road. Our pet doodle got the quartered patty which he devoured in no time. I'm so excited to share that I got to experience The Broken Yolk Cafe on Saturday, December 16, 2023. I stopped by after weighing in for my Jiu Jitsu tournament just a couple of miles away at Del Mar Fairgrounds. The Original Broken Yolk Cafe started in 1979 in Pacific Beach, San Diego, CA. At the time of this Yelp review, there are 34 locations nationwide with 10 more in development. This Broken Yolk is located in Del Mar, CA. I was so egg-static to finally check this place out because of their phenomenal reviews. I ordered a vanilla latte and for breakfast, I ordered their "Pick Two: Choose any two benedicts and get half of each one." I love this option because it allowed me to try two of my top choices: 1) Golden State Benedict - A toasted English muffin topped with grilled tomato, avocado, applewood-smoked bacon, poached eggs, hollandaise sauce, and a sriracha drizzle. 2) Classic Eggs Benedict - A toasted English muffin topped with Canadian bacon, poached eggs, and hollandaise sauce. If there was a Pick 3 option, I would have picked the Sope Benedict which is fried sopes filled with shredded beef and topped with poached eggs, homemade ranchero sauce, sliced avocado, fresh salsa, cotija cheese and sour cream. My waiter GERARDO also recommended the Sope. Gerardo was so professional, friendly and attentive. I could tell how dedicated and passionate he was about his job. He really took the time to let me know how much he goes out of his way to create memorable experiences for the guests. It was so authentic and genuine! Broken Yolk, take good care of Gerardo - he's a great employee! It's rare to have employees who genuinely love what they do!
