Sam is such a nice guy and did a great job fixing wooden blinds in our bedroom around the holidays. I was surprised that he was able to come out the week of Christmas and not only that, was able to come out within an hour of my call. He took the blinds with him, repaired them and we were able to get them back right after New Year's. I am certain that we would have had them returned sooner, but the holidays got in the way. The cost was a bit higher than I imagined, but trying to find the same set of blinds to match the ones used throughout our home seemed a bit daunting. He offered some low cost alternatives and suggested getting paper blinds in the meantime (all of $5). Frankly, having our old blinds back and repaired was worth it. It's always tricky finding contractors you can trust. Sam is definitely trustworthy, gives you an honest quote and if you don't like it, he will suggest some alternatives for you. I believe he was here for less than an hour, showed me how they work, what to look out for, and now they are actually better than new. A while back Sam helped us with a broken motorized roller shade. He made the process of getting it shipped out to Hunter Douglas seamless and we got it back in no time. This time around, we had a broken cord tensioner. Hunter Douglas sent us some replacement parts but wasn't really able to help us and told us we needed to get it professional repaired, so we called Sam. It turned out to be an easy fix and he said he could come to our home to fix it or could walk me through it on the phone. I opted to be walked through it to of course save us some money! Sam, owner of broken blinds is going through some business changes, which can be at times very challenging I'm sure. This didn't stop Sam from delivering above and beyond customer service, integrity and pure generosity to me during these busy and hectic holiday seasons! I have sent 2, and will have a third pair of gorgeous blinds repaired due to an extremely naughty puppy who chewed the chords and ladders to smithereens. Sam is a great guy and a pleasure to work with! He professionally repaired and restrung 6 big, old floor-to-ceiling wooden blinds so they work easily and evenly. Several months later, the locking mechanism on one failed and fell apart. I called Sam and he was able to come the next day to do the repair, which required restringing again. He said the product should not have failed, and he did not charge for the visit or the repair. Bottom line, I used him originally because of all the positive reviews, and was completely satisfied. After few unsuccessful phone calls to Hunter Douglas customer service to repair my window shades, only later on find out that it is no longer under warranty, I turned to Yelp to find another option and found this business. From the get go, Sam was very pleasant and professional in giving me a quote over the phone, punctual in returning calls and showing up on appointment time.. His fees consist consist of travel time to your place and the repair itself. I can't say how fair is his travel time as I have never compared it to others but I know his repair fee is very competitive to others. Sam fixed 7 of my hunterdouglas continuous loop honeycomb shades. I am very satisfied with his work because he was honest and I felt he didn't scam me for unnecessary repairs . He told me that only 3 of the blinds needed re-stringing and charged me less for untangling the strings of the other 4 blinds. I was thinking I had to re-string all 7. The estimates I received to send the blinds back to hunterdouglas for repairs were a little bit more than what I ended up paying and it would have taken a longer turnaround time. My Hunter Douglas blind that Sam repaired so exquisitely covers my whole slider and is very large and heavy- Sam's replacement cord somehow made them work a whole lot easier!!
