Friendly staff but.... I went to have a key made for a newer car. I went in person the first time, provided the key and year/make of vehicle to see if they could do it as it's a vehicle that has a fob which needs to be programmed. They said they could do it and had the right fob, but would take an hour or more and needed the car for a bit. Called the morning of the day I had time, brought the car to them and after they looked at my fob for 10 min decided they didn't have the correct fob. I asked if they could order it. They said sure, but then decided it might not work given my car is 5 years old.??? So, that's why I came with the fob prior, advised of the make, model and year.... They were nice, but if they don't have the expertise or correct parts why waste a customers time??? read more

I had to get a front and back door lock rekey, purchase two single spring deadbolt and fix a lock that wasn't working properly. I have installed locks on doors many time. I used to go to a different locksmith on Main street but they have now closed down. I think I will now go to Broadway Locksmith for all my lock and rekey or copy key issues.Their prices are reasonable. I had a hiccup on a lock that I was trying to install. I went back to the store and we had the issue fixed. I didn't have to show my receipt. The owner of the store recognized me (probably because I was coming back and forth). They do offer on-site services and they charge $100 for on call services. They sell all sort of locks, latch and etc. They are always super busy. Be careful. Rip off alert! I brought a blank key to them to cut for my Honda motorcycle and they charged me $50 and took 2 hours!!! I had another one done at cdnTire for $5.25 in 5 minutes. If it's not theft, I don't know what it is. Will never return. Tell others to be careful esp in this bad economy. read more

I wanted to leave a review for Broadway Locksmith. We needed to replace our front door knob and deadbolt lock on a semi-emergent basis. Called Broadway and they were to come out the next morning however the snow put a stop to that! Broadway phoned to let me know it couldn't happen that day and were very apologetic but scheduled the service call for the next morning. Ryan arrived bright and early after phoning to let me know he was on his way. Ryan was very friendly and started in right away. He was finished in what seemed like no time at all and made sure everything was working correctly. We would definitely use this company again and their number is in my favourite list on my phone. First time here. Quite busy for a weekday, especially since their front is now all covered by the subway works on Broadway. And surprisingly, there's a LOT of staff working there. Quick, pleasant service but expensive - $5.00 plus tax = $5.60 as I'm used to $4 - 4.50 for key copies. Not a huge dollar difference, but percentage wise...?! Ok place if you're just purchasing small items and close by for convenience but for larger ticket items, I'd check their price first. Came by to get some keys cut. Parking is available on the side streets, or if you want to throw money away, directly on Broadway. The shop is keys galore. They have 20 times the selection of blanks than lesser places such as Home Depot (which didn't have the key blank I needed), as well as anything lock related. The place is a bit pricier than the competition, but the staff were very quick, and I was out the door in under 5 minutes. read more

I had a key, I also had to make a few copies, also these keys weren't your run of the mill HomeDepot regular locks that you just buy and install yourself. I work around here now and was going to take my car at my lunch break to go to a locksmith I know, yet my co-workers said there was a place half a block down.. and this was the place. On any given day this place is packed with people, whether it is the simple job of getting some brand new cut keys, or if you want some other ways to get premium locks to arm your house and scare away potential theives, this place sells some heavy duty dead bolt locks, including security bars, and offers services of installation, this is a certified locksmith, not the one that sells lotto 6/49 and a pack of smokes on the side in some convenience store. I do find that they are more costly than other locksmiths when it does come to key cutting and other knick-knacks like the elastic-stringy key-chains for the office I work for. The place is located where I don't have to make any real effort to go to the slums, so if you need good work done, or better locks to keep the scum out of your place... and your around the area, now you know. read more

Went to Canadian Tire to get some condo keys cut (the Schlage type) but the senior locksmith there said they don't have the Schlage keys. I asked if perhaps Home Depot would have these and he said that Home Depot has "way less key types" than they do there at Canadian Tire. He referred me to Broadway Locksmith. So off we went to Broadway. You can't miss the shop with the long, blue awning. For a locksmith shop, the place was big (all the past key shops I've been to have been tiny). The guy who helped us out was super knowledgeable; right away he knew which key went to a padlock, and which of our many keys went to a community storage room (I don't know how he knew this as all the keys we have are all Schlage types. How did he know? Magic!). Anyhow, we got two sets of keys made. And they were made very quick, as we waited (within five minutes). I was very impressed. The only thing that wasn't impressive was the price (so expensive!) and the dismal selection of keychains (wish they had some nicer choices). But for quality key cutting, this is definitely the place to go! read more

I haven't used them for installation but I have bought keys and locks from them a few times and they seem to have a very comprehensive stock of everything. They are an independent business of the old school so they might seem a little chaotic but they know their stuff. read more

I was looking for three common keys to be cut and had gone to two different London Drugs near me to see if they could do it but they didn't have one of the key shapes in stock despite it being very common and basic shape. I ventured a little further and found Broadway Locksmith via Google and I have to say the phone/email and in-person advice and support they provided was kind, helpful and informative. They agreed London Drugs doesn't do the best key cutting/a regular locksmith does more precise cutting and better quality. I have to agree, having tried all three keys as soon as I got home. Hi used them last year for my mailbox It was always way too tight but I'm busy, I travel for work and don't t check my mailbox that often! I did mean to call but never got around too it! The key finally broke off in the key hole! When I called to let them know I got basically yelled at ... not the way to treat a customer! I wasn't planning on trying to get a deal! Was quoted $220 originally for the full job, then was told that they have to charge after-hours rate so minimum was $190 just for the service call. Ended up being charged $280 for the service call. Parts were another $35 and $95. All told it cost me $440 to change a lock on a door somebody tried to break into. When I asked Markus how he came up with $280 he said $190 is to pick a lock and if he had to do any installs or swaps it could be as much as $300. So, I guess I got a deal on it, though, I can't help but feel ripped off. He spent roughly an hour installing the new mechanisms. So he charged me $90/hour for labour. Wow, at those rates, I don't know how society isn't graduating more locksmiths. I told him if that's the rate he charges then next time I'm going to call somebody else and he just shrugged his shoulders. Lesson learned, don't call Broadway Locksmith for an emergency because they'll know that you're desperate and won't have any qualms about taking you to the cleaners. read more

The first bad review I've ever given on Yelp! I didn't even get past the first phone call. Lady on the phone was pleasant until she found out that the locks we were changing were installed by another company, then she was rude, interrupted me, and hung up before I had a chance to ask whether they could change the locks for new keys. I came here to get some keys cut. Some lock box keys at the request of my managers. It's not my money and I would get reimbursed but I try to get the best deal possible as anyone in my position would do. I came in during my break and asked how much each key was which I was quoted by the elderly gentleman as $4 each. I came back later and a younger guy quotes me $5 for the same job. I did politely call him out on it but he insisted that it was $5. The elderly gentleman was there but with another customer. I waited to talk to him. Eventually they did honour the original quote. It wasn't about the dollar difference as it was about the way the situation was handled. Not to mention that we were getting 5 keys done. They did apologize, however, felt that someone was trying to pull a fast one on me. When I mentioned to the younger guy that the older gentleman quoted me $4 he said, "oh that was mistake." This company is not reliable. I needed to get a door unlocked in my house. There was no hurry, but it had to be done by the end of the day. I called before noon. Five hours later, they called to say that I'd have to wait until Monday, because they stop at 5:00pm, whether they've done the job or not. So I'm fine with the overall service, pricing and products. But they were scheduled to come back to my house to re-fix the lock that they charged to fix (and is broken again after 1 month). Unfortunately they didn't show up to the appointment, when I asked, they said they got too busy. I completely understand that this can happen, however they should respect their client's time. If you say you are going to show up, then call if you are late or can't make it. I purposely took time off from work for this. read more

Brought in 3 keys to copy (they had holes drilled to reduce weight, but that meant no manufacturers markings were visible). One of the keys was a probably 50 year old lock brand that is no longer available. I had to get one key cut, and the other good reviews on yelp led me to try Broadway Locksmith. I like supporting a smaller business, and chose to go there over Canadian Tire. I was helped within seconds of entering the store; a young man cut my key in less than two minutes, just $2.80, and was super friendly to my toddler. I had had copies made of the same key at Canadian Tire, and the copies had been a bit stiff in the lock. This newly cut key fits perfectly, turns without sticking. The owner of the store does not know how to treat customers. After having discovered that some critical contents of the box for the lock I was interested in purchasing were missing, I let the owner know. I stood there for at least 15 minutes, and in the end, the contents were never found or put back in the box. I also discovered that the lock in the box was pitted and scratched, as if it had been tossed around in a pile of junk locks. After discovering this and notifying the owner again, in hopes of getting a slight discount, I was told to "go somewhere else", and that he had "spent enough time on me". This is ridiculous, as I have wasted 15 minutes of my own time in this store only to get disrespected. If you believe in good service, and good products at fair prices and you like to be respected and treated in a professional manner, DO NOT GO TO THIS PLACE! To be fair, 1 star is frankly a generous rating, and I give this rating only because the staff inside seemed to be friendly, and only really because this is the minimum rating I can give.
