This may be the best plant nursery on or near South Hill. I haven't checked every single place in…read moreor near Spokane, so I can't assert that it's the best overall, but it's probably at or near the top. There are a lot of big box stores selling plants, and there are a lot of indies selling plants but only during the growing season, and I've tried to hit them all this year. (I went to a place down on Perry I won't mention here except for comparison. That place was immaculate, and the salespeople were kind of frosty. I was never acknowledged or offered help. I left without buying anything, though I badly wanted to buy a rose plant they had.) (1) There's a map at the entrance(s) telling you where stuff is. There are also maps throughout so you don't get too lost. There are also helpful signs everywhere, telling you what stuff is, and what plants need. If you stop and read, you'll leave with far more knowledge about plants and gardening. (There was another indie nursery I visited that was way at the edge of town that had nothing marked. I mean, I know what a tomato plant looks like, but there was no indication what kind of tomato would grow from that plant. Annoying.) (2) This place is large, sort of maze-like and interesting. It would be easy to get lost here for a few hours. It's also fully staffed by mellow, intelligent and helpful staff people who seem to like their job and know what they're talking about. That was not my experience at any of the other indies, where people were cold and dismissive, or elitist, or didn't know much about anything or couldn't wait for these pesky customers to stop bothering them. (3) The music playing inside the nursery was actually pretty cool. I heard Sinatra, Billie Holliday, several WWII-era compositions, some old-school musical numbers (pre-Andrew Lloyd Webber, which was awesome), and some opera. That place on Perry was playing Lite Rock - the kind that makes you want to gouge out your ear drums. (4) Did I mention the plant selection and the prices? Uh, yeah. They had everything I had on my wish list, and some stuff I didn't know I wanted. Fruits, vegetables, every possible kind of flower, landscaping choices, trees, succulents, and some other stuff I can't categorize. I walked out of there for less than $20 with a big box of stuff, and kind of felt bad that I didn't buy more. Yes, big box stores are cheaper, and they have those guaranties (replacing a plant that dies), but these plants were far healthier and more responsibly sourced. My big box squash is dead, and the strawberry I got at another nursery is being a drama queen, but all the plants I got here are healthy, thriving, growing. They also stock plants from Monrovia, which I remember being THE expensive/trendy plants of choice in expensive/trendy Bay Area gardens. That's right - people had "designer" plants in their yards. I know. It made me roll my eyes, too. I went on a bland and overcast weekday, so I have no idea how crazy-crowded it gets on the weekends. Still worth it.

I've enjoyed each time I have been in The Plant Project. It's nice to have a one stop shop for…read moreplants, refillable options and tons of thrifted goodies. I am sad to see the other reviews knowing how wonderful each experience I've had going in. I hope more people are able to come and enjoy the selection of products and everything else this shop has to offer. The build your own terrarium was a great Mother's Day gift and the accessories they have as well never miss. I appreciate the affordable prices as well, it's not every day you get to thrift and not be buying at the "resell" rate. Here are some pictures of an outfit I was able to style with some pieces I picked up from their shop.

The first package was returned to sender -- no idea why because I've had zero issue getting my mail at this address from other retailers. I also had to ask for my tracking number even though my online receipt said they would send a follow up email once my package has shipped with tracking info. They don't answer their phone or return voicemails so it's impossible to get ahold of anyone to get my issue resolved. In fact it seems like they intentionally hang up and ignore calls because some calls are sent to voicemail after a 4 or 10 seconds and some 40 seconds. My email has been unanswered for several days. I had asked for the updated tracking number because it's been yet another week and still no package... 4 weeks just for some premixed soil is ridiculous and I just want a refund at this point and I probably won't get one because they are unresponsive. If you aren't going to answer your phone or emails or have proper invoicing and follow up emails for online orders then don't run an online store. ‍‍‍‍

And I'll continue working with Liberty Park as long as I can. They are incredibly professional, easy to work with, great communicators and produce the most beautiful flower arrangements. I started working on the flower arrangements with Tammy and Kellee at Liberty Park about a year ago, and it was a great experience! I brought in a few photos of inspiration, and they took it to the next level. It was so much more than I could have ever imagined; the flowers were bright, beautiful and stayed that way through the evening and beyond. The bouquets, boutonnieres, loose flowers and larger arrangements looked so beautiful, and they brought the entire event together. They called me the week of the wedding to nail down some final details, and they delivered the flowers exactly when I had requested the day of the wedding. Zero stress involved with Liberty Park -- they took care of everything and helped to ease my mind. I would highly recommend Liberty Park Florist to anyone in need of beautiful flower arrangements!

When I told them I was going to hand load it into bags and disclosed my 619 area code, I'm sure they thought "batshit crazy Californian" - but hey, I'm not complaining. I got my compost and feel happy with the product and the price. If you are as crazy as me and willing to get your workout, bring a roll of strong garbage bags, a shovel and maybe a bucket to hold up your bags. Go into the office and say you want a cubic yard of compost and you will hand load it. You might raise a little laugh but, you are crazy after all. :-) They'll sell it to you and give you a receipt. You will drive your car around to the compost pile on the lot. I was helpfully shown where to park. They will drive a tractor up, scoop your cubic yard and dump it on the ground for you to shovel into bags. If you are lucky enough to have or borrow a truck they will put it in the truck bed for you. If not proceed to get your workout shoveling it into the garbage bags and throwing them into the back of your car. A cubic yard of compost in bags fills the back of an SUV with the back seats down. So ladies move your car seats out first and bring those strong garbage bags. You won't have to go to the gym today! Better yet bring a teenager (only one will fit in the car) and get some help with this chore. Wish I had one of those but my kid's only 7. Thanks Northland Nursery for tolerating this newb! ;-)
