Ended up at this nursery with a friend who was picking up an order. My friend raved about a pink snowberry that she walked by. Went to check out the "amazing" snowberry. Yep, it was a dandy. Candy Sensation Dwarf Snowberry and the white Galaxy Snowberry. These are great as they'll grow about 2.5' tall and wide. Their plants looked healthy and well-organized. And they had some trees that my friend couldn't find elsewhere. The customer service wasn't overwhelming, but I was friendly and persistent and all ended well -- they sold a few plants and I have a few gorgeous snowberry shrubs. read more

I don't have a truck but Northland Nursery still let me buy a cubic yard of WSU compost (recently certified organic) for $35. When I told them I was going to hand load it into bags and disclosed my 619 area code, I'm sure they thought "batshit crazy Californian" - but hey, I'm not complaining. I got my compost and feel happy with the product and the price. If you are as crazy as me and willing to get your workout, bring a roll of strong garbage bags, a shovel and maybe a bucket to hold up your bags. Go into the office and say you want a cubic yard of compost and you will hand load it. You might raise a little laugh but, you are crazy after all. :-) They'll sell it to you and give you a receipt. You will drive your car around to the compost pile on the lot. I was helpfully shown where to park. They will drive a tractor up, scoop your cubic yard and dump it on the ground for you to shovel into bags. If you are lucky enough to have or borrow a truck they will put it in the truck bed for you. If not proceed to get your workout shoveling it into the garbage bags and throwing them into the back of your car. A cubic yard of compost in bags fills the back of an SUV with the back seats down. So ladies move your car seats out first and bring those strong garbage bags. You won't have to go to the gym today! Better yet bring a teenager (only one will fit in the car) and get some help with this chore. Wish I had one of those but my kid's only 7. Went to Northland for some lawn and shrub planting ideas. Contrary to our former experiences, they were more than helpful. Showed my husband varieties of mulch for lawn seed planting, had a list of deer resistant shrubs to choose from. Let us fumble as amateurs to planting but supported what we were trying to create in our landscape. We had two helpers listening to our needs and we walked away knowing that when planting season is in full swing, that we would return. read more

Beautiful plants but the customer service is lacking. Not very helpful for the small customer.

We have spent nearly $1000 here over the past couple of weeks, but will no longer support this local business. We went there two days in a row and dealt with the same unpleasant woman who acted as though we were bothering her with our questions both times! The first time, I thought maybe she was upset because as she was ringing us up, I asked one of the other staff members (Sue - who is wonderful) who we have been working closely with if I could pick her brain about a recommendation she had made. But when we returned the second day to purchase a single tree for $300, this woman's attitude was perhaps even nastier than the first encounter! To my understanding this woman is the owner and I have no intention of spending my money to support someone who cannot even be bothered to act as though they want my business. Perhaps if they don't want customers who have questions, they should be open only to landscaping companies and such and not be open to the general public. I will not be supporting this local business again. 2 stars only because Sue is fantastic! She is kind, patient, and knowledgable! read more

Great selection, terrible service, meh prices. Yes staff is quite knowledgable, but lack basic people skills. I don't need condescending attitude if I ask a question, and I don't need to hear you drop f-bombs while chewing out your poor employees. I will be spending my money at Westwood nursery in Rathdrum (behind Super One) or Aspen nursery in Post Falls(near Selkirk Abbey so I can even get a beer), both have great people AND plants. read more

Lots of great product and some amazing staff, but the owner is so mean to hear staff and so rude it makes it hard to go into the business or give money to the owner. I as a customer shouldn't have to cringe at the treatment of the owner to her staff. She is super rude and disrespectful. I used to LOVE Northland Nursery. Each year for the past several years, I've been purchasing my plants there--one trip in the Spring and one in the Fall for their super end of season sale. I was so excited to go last weekend (May 9) and get plants for the yard. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, I checked their Facebook page to see if they were implementing social distancing etc. to keep us all safe. A post dated March 25 stated that they were following all safety guidelines to help keep their customers safe. Feeling relieved, I put my mask on in the car and headed into the nursery yard. While walking around choosing plants I felt safe as their outside plant corridors and shadehouses have wide walkways. However, their tiny office with three pay stations on a small counter, leaves you nearly touching shoulders with other customers. There was no signage telling customers to limit the numbers of people in the office; all three pay stations were open and no employee was limiting the number of people checking out at the same time; Northland's employees, who are wonderfully helpful, were not wearing masks and very few customers were wearing masks; no hand sanitizer was at the stations but we were all signing charge card receipts with the same pens and I saw no one wiping them down between customers. I hate to leave a negative review of a business during this extraordinarily challenging time, but if we are to get through this pandemic with the fewest casualties, everyone must do their part. Including businesses. I'm not sure if this post will make any difference, but I just want us all to stay safe and if we're going to support our important local businesses, the least they can do is actually implement the CDC guidelines for this pandemic. read more

We encountered the absolutely rudest lady ever at this place. My wife and I wanted to look and purchase some trees but they had just closed. This lady came up to us and rudely said, "what are you doing here? We're closed. "What do you want?" My wife said we interested at looking at some trees. She said nope very rudely and told us to leave. We left and will never return. read more

This used to be our favorite nursery but our last experience has left us not wanting to ever give them business again. We arrived around 4:30 ( the nursery was closing at 5pm) our favorite sales associate was there along with the sister in law of the owner and 2 other employees. While we were there a short period of time, our favorite associate was able to help us get several trees picked out and got us checked out and loaded up. We spent around $1,000 at this particular visit and have probably given them over $7,000 in business throughout the years. We realized that we hadn't gotten stakes for the trees and went back into the office, the door wasn't locked yet, the time was 5:02pm, the sister in law was in the office and I told her we forgot stakes for the 6 trees we just purchased. She responded in a very negative tone, and said it was to late. She was huffing and puffing. Like this request was outrageous. When we were checking out one of the associates mentioned that our transaction got them to their daily goal. It was very disturbing how that nasty women spoke to us. I wanted to return the entire transaction at that exact moment, how dare she speak to a customer like that. When she told me I couldn't get stakes I told her I'd like to return the trees and she said, tomorrow you can! The friendly associate said we could grab the stakes and pay for them tomorrow over the phone. We proceeded to grab them. The rude sister in law then approached us and told us we were trespassing and stealing. And told the other girl to call the cops. I've never been so enraged!! You don't treat loyal customers like that . The next day when we called to pay for the stakes we also complained to the owner. She apologized and said that stakes should have been offer when we were checking out. It almost felt like she was blaming the one super stellar awesome employee and not taking responsibility for her sister in laws actions. If it wasn't such a pain to return the tree we would have. Just because they are family doesn't mean they need to work for you, especially if they have a nasty attitude. That's not your burden and it's being passed onto your customers. This place is probably the most expensive nursery in the area but when you're trying to match something they have a better selection than most of the seasonal garden centers so you go and hope for the best. They take your phone number to create an account for you and track your purchases but they enter it wrong every time so they can never find your account or past purchases, others have told me this has been used to avoid warranties on trees but I haven't had a claim yet just the annoyance. My last trip will be my last though since due to medical reasons I can't stand under the flickering lights they have in their office so I handed the girl my card to run inside. After not finding my phone number twice and i asked her to just create a new account with the correct number she came back to tell me they don't accept my card (that had been used there before) so i gave her another and she came back to tell me it was declined. I called my bank and they said a request for authorization never even came through and there is no way they would have declined it. read more
