Absolutely beautiful location with amazing food and a staff that loves working here. The atmosphere and menu for dinner are fantastic, but don't pass this up as a lunch spot. Trust me when I say I've eaten a lot of fish sandwiches. I mean, it's a weird flex, right? Who goes around bragging about how many fish sandwiches they've eaten. This guy apparently. I've also eaten a lot of fish tacos and I have opinions there as well, but for the moment let's stick to the sandwiches, please. The Hot Fish Sandwich is hands down the BEST fish sandwich I've ever had! The whole things just works! The black rye bread was a surprise, but it fits! The coleslaw (which I also ordered on the side) isn't your typical coleslaw and not really what I'm looking for in a coleslaw on the side, but y'know what? It works on the sandwich! The Cajun remoulade ties it all together. Fantastic! Are those pickles made in house? I'm pretty sure they are! Anyway, I could go on and on about the 1872 Beef Filet I had for dinner one night or the loaded baker (honestly the cracked fingerlings were better. I should have chosen those) but anybody would brag about steak and potatoes! I'm telling you, go for lunch, get the fish. Oh and if it's your thing, you'll want the El Jefe Margarita. The location is definitely beautiful and outshines the poor meal I had. Had an early reservation and wasn't many customers there upon arrival. Put in a drink order and an app order. Ordered up the cheese curds since they had no other passable apps on the menu but mussels and I'm allergic. The curds were supposed to come with yum yum sauce but did not. They sent out ranch dressing instead. First curd I bit into was ice cold inside. Not a great start to the meal in my opinion being the place had just opened for dinner service and we were one of 3 tables in the entire restaurant. We ordered our entrees and after we ordered I noticed that almost every table had filled up with homecoming kids which delayed everything. I ordered the special which was the ribeye. I like my steak med rare and waited over an hour for a overcooked steak to come out. I noticed in the time we were waiting that most the homecoming kids who sat after us were getting their food before us. This caused our server to be overwhelmed with tables and not have time to check on us to make sure our food was cooked properly. I forgot to mention that my gf's meal wasn't brought out with the rest of the entrees, because of a mistake made by the kitchen. So like a gentleman I waited to eat till she received her food. In all, food isn't great and the menu was very tired and almost a flash back from the 80's of unimaginable food being served. Definitely not worth the drive or price. read more

So excited for the opening of this new restaurant. Many menu items are from local farms. Prepared with such unique flair. Douglas St Dip has great bread and so much meat and cheese. Aus jus has great rich flavor. Fresh cut fries. Robbins Shoe, a horseshoe so cleverly named after Robbins store where many used to purchase their shoes. Features Hand of Fate beer cheese, fresh cut fries, local burger and homemade bread. Building preserves so much history from the area. Be sure to take time to look around. read more

My wife and her three sisters had 5:30 reservations on Saturday 5/28/22. Upon being seated it was 12-15 min before finally being greeted and it was a different server who then brought water. Within another 5 minutes the server approached to take a drink order, no menu was delivered so they asked for a drink menu. After ordering drinks, it was another 12-15 min for 2 glasses of wine and a cocktail to be delivered. They ordered as soon as drinks arrived, by now it was after 6pm. At 6:50p dinner was delivered. Three Berry BBQ Salmon (completely overcooked and worse $30 entree ever served, see picture) and the Broadgauge Burger. Three other tables that were seated after and had already received their meals. One of those tables was paying before they even received their meals. The real kicker was the young male manager who approached their table and accused them of being rude and that the server was crying. Wait WHAT!! What happened to customer service and the customer is right??? Maybe they overheated this poor young server and they set her up for failure. This young man needs a retraining on manners, and probably doesn't belong in this role. He collected CC payments and cash and returned to table throwing the change on the table saying "enjoy your dessert". Wait WHAT again??? What dessert, they don't offer dessert. What an arrogant young man. This place came well recommended but obviously it was not our night. We will not recommend to anyone and will tell our story to all who ask. Had very high hopes, with having heard many good things. That was not our experience. Spent 2 hours from start to finish with sub-par food. I ordered the filet. It was dry. Requested a new one. This would be a really nice restaurant if they would just put up some coverings on the big store front windows. Every time I've been there (3) I get seated at the back and am blinded by the bright light from the front windows. If they would let you sit toward the front so you look into the restaurant that would make it so much more enjoyable. I've even asked if it were possible to sit at or toward the front, but am told those seats are spoken for which didn't happen as long as we were there. The prices are really expensive and food is well presented, but perhaps not as good a quality as for the price asked. Service is really good. read more

Didn't think we would need reservations for 2 on a Thursday night so we drove over. They were a lot busier than I expected but the staff got us seated within 5 minutes. Next time we will definitely make a reservation. Now on to the food and service. Initially we were served a small round loaf of warm bread. Not sure what all was in the bread but it was good. We ordered the chicken and pickles for a starter. It was very good. The amount of chicken was a meal itself and done perfectly. For an entree my wife ordered shrimp which was served with rice. She said it was very good. I had the pork chop with apple butter bbq sauce. It was probably the best pork chop I have ever had. Thick, juicy, and done to perfection.!! This place gets 1 star because the bartender -she was amazing and made us great drinks - otherwise I'd give 0 stars. We came in with about 20min before the kitchen was closing. We were told to wait for a table - as we were waiting for a table then they told us we couldn't order food. Why tell us to wait if you can't serve us to begin with. When we were waiting the bartender told us we can order food from her we declined because we thought we were getting a table. So we were SOL out of a table! They should have still served us - the manager avoided us and sent one of his waitresses over to tell us. Man up buddy! Worst service which seems to be a pattern with the other reviews. I usually do not write reviews, but felt compelled to write this one because I want the restaurant to succeed as a destination venue. The concept is wonderful and the building does not disappoint at all. The people involved have beautifully restored the charm and elegance of the Broad Gauge building. The décor is lovely. I realize we went on the second night the restaurant was open and that likely has a lot to do with why I am giving the experience a 2/5. I am trying to be honest, but fair. Food: I was so disappointed. I left the restaurant not even full. Much of the menu was not available due to running out of product (which again, I can understand because of the grand opening). We ordered both appetizers and the staff completely FORGOT about them. We waited an hour or so to eat only entree's. I had to remind the waitress as she was bringing our entree's and she herself did not realize we never got the appetizers. The salad and soup came AFTER the entree's were given. I had to ask the waitress to bring them. The salad was not as advertised on the menu due to being out of product. My scallops and the rest of the plate were tasty, however the food was not warm at all. It clearly had sat (not even under a warmer) at the kitchen for a bit before it was brought out. Cold scallops are not good. The cocktails were very nice, however. No complaints regarding the cocktails. Service: Our waitress looked so stressed out and overwhelmed (which again, I realize, second night). It was not pleasant. I had to ask for my cocktails, my salad, and she completely forgot about two appetizers. Another waiter attempted to give us an appetizer courtesy of the chef, but we told him we were waiting for the two we had ordered so we said to give it to another table. He started to put it down, then took it to the table next to us. His attitude was like he was inconvenienced. It was rude. The service was not good. Atmosphere: Beautiful. They renovated and decorated this place so well. It is stunning. I am hoping by giving some honest feedback, the quality of the food and service will improve. I definitely would recommend coming to this restaurant, but perhaps in several months when some of these kinks have been worked out. $200 (total of 4 people) for cold scallops, poor service, and a lack of food/forgetting food is just not worth it, particularly since it was a drive just to get to the location. read more

We went to Broadgauge for the first time last Saturday with a couple friends. We had heard a lot about the restaurant but had never been, so we had high expectations. We were not disappointed. My wife had the giant scallops special and they were delicious. I had hoped to have the prime rib, as it was a special as well, but they were already sold out (and we arrived at 7:00!). Apparently everyone likes the prime rib! I ended up getting a filet and it was one of the best filets I've had outside of Chicago, and cooked perfectly. Our friends had the bistro pork and some sort of deconstructed chicken pot pie which they said were both good. And dessert: my wife and I had an outrageous chocolate coffee cake with caramel ice cream, and our friends had a chocolate tart that I am definitely trying when we return. And we will return. But our favorite part of the night was definitely our server, Rick. He was a blast, so knowledgeable, and a true professional. I don't think I've ever laughed so much with a server. He's got that perfect balance of being fun and engaging without being too much. I'm not sure if Broadgauge lets you request a specific server, but if you can get Rick you'll love him. My wife and I will definitely be back. Our only regret is that we waited so long to try Broadgauge. read more

We went there for lunch for 12:00 reservations. We were promptly seated and sat for 50 minutes waiting for our meal. We were given the wrong salad, and were served a chicken sandwich without pimento cheese so (super dry). We then had to wait another 7 minutes to get the salad switched. When it did arrive it looked like a school cafeteria salad chopped up ice burg lettuce mostly the thick middle with a terrible Caesar salad dressing ( strong Dijon mustard taste) big blue cheese bits and candied pecans.. It was not big very small Salad no color.... Looked like potato salad almost. Fries were good, but the wait and wrong orders made it pretty miserable. That salad would have been better if they had just gone with a bag salad from Walmart. Lol! I wished it was better and hoping it will be soon. The Talisman coffee shop Was excellent though. read more

Went with my parents when I was visiting last Saturday night. It was our first visit although we had heard mixed reviews. I must admit that when we arrived I was fearful that we would not be in for a good experience as the hostesses who were at the stand both didn't to really understand the role they were playing. They looked lost and even a pleasant greeting would have been welcomed, instead we were met with blank stares. After a short wait (5 min) we were led to our table which was ok since we had arrived 10 minutes early got our reservation. The waitress came back with menus and got us drinks quickly. The cocktail was very well crafted and tasty! When the waitress returned to take our orders, I was a tad disappointed when the first two things I requested were both not available as they had run out. There were only about 7-8 options on the appetizer menu so to be out of 25% of the menu was a let down. Fortunately I ordered the Bao and my parents got the fried oysters and the both were excellent. The flavor was perfect and both were cooked to perfection as well. We all ordered filets for dinner -- each with a different temperature and all of them came out of the kitchen cooked to a perfect temp and it was probably one of the most tender and flavorful filet I have had. The desserts were limited but they were excellent and extremely generous portions! All in all some service hiccups but nothing that ruined the experience and the meal was simply amazing! Went for brunch on a Sunday a few weeks back with family. Reservations were for 10am but took a while to seat us. Front of the house seemed to be in a panic with bus boys rolling in at 10:10am and an older hostess with all the charm and warmth of Judge Judy being a little severe with customers. However, food was top notch. Very impressed with the quality of food coming out of that kitchen. I've never had perfectly curdled scrambled eggs from a buffet before. Biscuits were pillowy and gravy was nuanced and really good. A very good pork Chile verde which would have been uplifted by some homemade tortillas. Duck confit seemed a little out of place but I appreciated the effort. Pretty much all of the proteins available were perfectly cooked. Pastry table was also stellar. Strawberry-mint muffins and the densest brownie I have ever had. Our server was a mature gentleman with outstanding training and gave five star service. But I could see other tables struggling a bit. Overall, a very nice dining experience and so happy to see the rehabilitation of those beautiful old spaces. read more

Try the carrot ginger bisque, halibut, bucatini, and tarts if they are still available. The staff are friendly and Shelba was delightful as our table server. It was a lovely experience. But I understand doing what you have well and the food was good /kind of pricey the fillet was the most tender fillet I've had in a long time it was $45. The Bad: roasted vegetables WAY over salted to the point of inedible. Baked potato curiously served warm on outside, cold inside. I cannot say enough about this place. Please come out and support locally owned restaurants. I know we hear this all of the time, but in this case it's well deserved. I am always trying out new places and most of the time I am disappointed with the poor execution of a great plan. This is definitely not the problem here. It's a genius plan executed by someone who must have some extensive history working in the restaurant industry. They literally have something for everyone. Date night dinner, breakfast with the kids, lunch on the go.... Done, Done, and Done. A friend recommended I try this location out and I owe her a great debt. I had dinner on Wednesday, brought the kids back this morning for breakfast, and plan to make reservations for Sunday brunch asap.
