I had the task of turning a very large and very public front yard into something people would enjoy walking by. We started our conversation with Brent in February, knowing they would get very busy by the summer. We had an empty, pretty bad parkway to design and landscape. Our first meeting (and all subsequent meetings) with Brent and his team were fantastic. Not only do these folks know their stuff, they are fun and friendly to work with on a project. They are extremely busy so be patient if there is some lag time or if, like us, you order a very special timber that is customized for your project. We didn't have any idea of what we wanted and had a slightly flexible budget as well. The design talks were fun and Brent really listens to what you want or don't want and takes good notes! He presented some flowers and plants to us that we would not have otherwise chosen. It was a lot of fun and very informative. Remember: he is a landscape designer and architect, not just a landscaper so very creative and open to ideas. He isn't going to just show up and throw a bunch of flowers and plants in your space. He takes the time to create something just for you and does a beautiful job of it! Once everything was on site, it took 5-6 days, weather permitting, to finish our parkway. It is gorgeous! The entire installation time, folks were stopping by to ask about it. And even now, when I water it every day (sometimes twice a day Brent, I promise!) - people stop to ask me about it. I asked for empty space to plant annuals every year. (I hope I can figure out how to attach photos here.) You can say what you want about spending money on land we don't technically own in Chicago, but I love looking out everyday to see this beautiful piece of artwork that Brent and his team (shout out to Felipe and guys!) have created. Working with Brent has been unique, enlightening, fun, and beautiful. We were fortunate enough to hire him 2 years ago to help us find a truly special tree to go in our small city yard. He introduced me to a Japanese Stewartia, hunted down the most gorgeous specimen he could find in the city, and it became mine. He also took the boring little garden we had and transformed it into a beautiful garden that I was so proud of. A year later, we purchased the lot next door, with the intent to turn it into a side yard. There was never a question of not hiring Brent. He knew what he was doing with my little yard, and I couldn't wait to see what he would do with an entire lot. I was rewarded with something I honestly hadn't seen anywhere else in the city. He created our own heaven. An oasis from the chaos and noises of Chicago. From start to finish, and now even a year later, Brent has been unbelievably present and on top of this project. He took loads of time to drive me around to all his favorite garden centers so that he could understand which plants made me light up, and which I didn't respond to. He introduced me to the types of plants that I should pay attention to, and ushered me away from those that weren't going to be good for us. That experience alone was phenomenal for me. Brent truly delights in beautiful plants, and his expertise is easily seen. He then spent weeks designing our yard, thinking about the timing of when different plants would bloom, and grouping the trees and flowers and shrubs into differing heights and colors and textures. We created different zones of the yard: the enchanted forest, where our little children could step on the walking stones and play hide and seek behind the shrubs; the orchard, with the apple and pear trees; the butterfly garden, with the most whimsical flowers I could hope to see. Actually turning the designing and creating into a real yard was intense. It involved Brent coordinating with the demolition crew to make sure they dug deep enough to install new soil. After the house was down, Brent and his crew added rich new soil and compost for the plants. When a heavy rain revealed that my yard had zero drainage, his guys worked incredibly hard digging an extremely effective drain under the yard. Water never pools in the yard now. Brent also made sure the irrigation was perfect, and came back multiple times to make sure the timing was what our plants needed. Months later, in the dead of winter, during the record-breaking sub-zero temperatures, Brent came to my yard and literally shoveled snow over everything to protect all the new plants, and it worked. He would not stand for anything except perfection. And as a result, my yard is absolutely exquisite. A year has passed, and I still see a lot of Brent. He comes by to make sure everything is still beautiful and thriving. All summer long I have been sending Brent photos of the new flowers that have come up, or the beautiful colors on the trees. He always responds with smiles. He loves the yard too. Now the work is done. Now I sit on my wooden swing with my baby and watch my older children run around the yard. My daughter often picks one flower from every area of the garden to present me with a perfect bouquet. I gaze at the beautiful trees. I admire the flowers. And I just can't believe what Brent has given to us. He is such a talented and skilled artist. He is so passionate about making something that is exceptional. I could not be more grateful. read more

Let me start by saying that my wife and I are difficult to please aesthetes. We care deeply about design and visual beauty and we were both fearful when we started our landscape designer search. We had a strong vision of what we wanted (and what we didn't want). We're not easy to please people. We have high expectations. We're demanding (but fair). We're control freaks. So anyone stepping into this situation was bound to fail...but not Brent. Despite all of that, Brent (& his team) totally met our expectations each step of the way. He listened. He actually cared. He came through. He went above and beyond. And he delivered a final landscape that's the envy of all our neighbors and undeniably the most beautiful on the block. What was so impressive was the blend of talents that Brent & his team have - the perfect combination of creativity, fun, expertise, care/finesse, and strength/work-ethic that would make any landscaper jealous. On the design side you've got Brent leading the team - Brent knows horticulture, he knows zones, and planting times, and soil, and grading, and perspective, and balance, and scale and which things play well with others and on and on. My wife is a well known interior designer and she appreciated his design skills and they worked well together. Not only was he wonderfully talented, but he's also a great listener. Then on the landscape installation/'brute force' side I was equally impressed - the team that joined Brent for our installation days were just as great as Brent. Extremely knowledgeable, careful with delicate plants, strong enough to handle large shrubs/trees, hard working, etc. These weren't just hired-hands, these were experts who loved gardening & were as passionate & hard working as Brent. And to top it all off the whole crew was just plain fun to work with - we laughed every time we were together. They made the process enjoyable (not stressful). He was passionate that the end result would be beautiful, and he worked tirelessly to ensure it turned out as beautifully as he planned. We had 1 tree that had a bit of transplant shock (which can happen on a large tree). Brent or someone on his team would stop by every week or two to check on it just to make sure it was doing ok, and of course now it is doing just fine. In the end, we had a great experience, and our yard is the envy of neighbors for blocks. We simply adore our landscape designer Brent. He is such a genuine and lovely person and the designs he produces are stunning and are executed beautifully. I'm always amazed at the wealth of knowledge he has in his head, not just for plants, but also for architecture. He has a lovely and responsive team that works with him. Other than Brent, we usually talk with Felipe and he's wonderful and so nice and knowledgeable. Brent designed, built and planted a wonderful herb wall for our back patio (incl. irrigation system). He finds the loveliest herbs and flowers for our wall and my family doesn't have to buy fresh herbs all season. For the past few year he and his team come out each spring to do the planting for. Brent always selects the most luscious looking and succulent herbs and flowers. This year my daughter and I decided to plant our herb wall ourselves, thinking it'd be a fun project - it was so much work! It took three trips to the store and almost two days of planting and figuring things out like where to place the shade vs sun loving plants and making it visually pleasing. Whilst we had a lot of fun doing it, next year, we're for sure asking Brent to do it for us again! Brent also designs and plants our front parkway for all seasons. He comes every fall to plant the juiciest and most vibrant tulip bulbs and every spring our parkway is this gorgeous sea of dense pink. From the being the first to respond to my bid request, to installing a landscape concept that surpassed our expectations, Brent Riechers Landscaping more than deserves a five star rating! Here's our story...my husband and I are looking to sell our condo and our landscaping was in much need of a "make-over" to give our building "curb appeal". My goal was to interview 4 landscapers, to present the outstanding bid to our association. Because I had never used a professional landscaping company, I went to Yelp to read the reviews of local landscapers. I emailed four potential companies and Brent was the first to respond. He was able to meet me the same day to give me an quick design concept and rough estimate on pricing. His knowledge of trees and plants was very impressive, but I also felt confident that he was going to produce a beautiful design. A few days later he gave me a very well thought out and detailed quote that was competitively priced. The other three bids that I received were comparable in price, but lacking in knowledge and definitely lacking in design. There was one lower bid, and being that we have a very budget conscious association, I asked if Brent could meet their bid and he did, (without sacrificing design). Another thing that I liked about Brent was that he was fun to talk to and very approachable, (in terms of sharing ideas and discussing the sensitive subject of pricing). He's a neighborhood guy who loves seeing the neighborhood do well and look beautiful. Once I had decided that he would be the bid that we present to the association, he agreed to meet with the association to present his concept. He spent about 45 minutes to an hour sharing pictures of our options for plants, giving full descriptions of the plants, sharing his knowledge on what would work well in our conditions, and what would give the most "interest" throughout the seasons. The group all felt confident and excited that Brent would give us what we were looking for. He met with our association on a Tuesday night and was able to come out the following Monday morning for the installation. Talk about immediate gratification! Day of installation: Brent and his crew showed up early in the morning, (on-time), to deliver the materials/plants. They worked all day and had the job 99.9% finished when they left. The only thing that they had to do on a second day was to spread the mulch over the new flower beds/ground cover. When I got home from work I very impressed with what they delivered. Brent covered everything in his quote and design, but added a few, (very labor intensive), add-on's, for no additional cost, to give us a completed look. The days following the installation, Brent provided instructions for maintaining our landscape, and even came back to trim back a few more bushes/trees to complete the manicured look.
