Brix Tavern is a great brew pub in the complex that houses the Century Hotel and some residences. It is a fun location that we frequent when visiting locals in Newberg. We had salmon, shrimp and Kale salad and a decadent Lava cake. The view of the man-made lake is spectacular. The service has always been friendly and attentive. We visited this restaurant for the first (and last) time last Saturday evening. I can, honestly say, this was some of the worst food I have ever been served in a restaurant. I first ordered the chicken pot pie which came as a bowl of milky soup with some over-cooked chicken bits and vaguely familiar vegetable flecks. The whole flavorless mess was topped with a doughy disk that was so tough that it could not be cut even with a sharp knife. I couldn't forced myself to eat the 'pie' so I sent it back and then ordered the pulled pork sandwich. This disaster came on a massive, hard, ciabatta roll filled with about 2 tablespoons of unseasoned, shredded pork sitting on top of a thick, dripping pool of mayo and a few cabbage strings buried underneath. The pork and the roll were slathered in ketchup - zero barbecue sauce. The fries were edible. My husband ordered the French dip sandwich and said that the entire thing was utterly tasteless though he ate his and only mentioned it after the fact. Our server was the only redeeming aspect of this whole debacle. She, respectfully, acknowledged that both my food selections were subpar and took them off our bill since they were sent back to the kitchen largely uneaten. This restaurant appears to be a win for some people so, maybe, they had a substitute chef? If not, they should, seriously, reconsider who they employ in their kitchen... read more

One of those places where we thought "why haven't we been here" Ample parking, we were seated right away. Good atmosphere, it's clean, you can see the water during the day and friendly service. We went to this establishment to take advantage of the great outdoor seating. When we entered no one was at the host stand. The bartender came over and we asked her to sit outside. She told us no because it was not set up and under construction. We were seated inside. Not 10 minutes later people were being seated outside. Not what we wanted to see. When we inquired about our seating we were told that we could not sit outside there because the hostess had not arrived yet. When we asked to speak to a manager, we were told there were none on duty. I have frequented Brix in Tualatin for years. We went last night to celebrate a friends Birthday and experienced the worst service, I am 67 years old and have never been treated so rudely in my life. We were sitting outside, our server was Ester. I was getting dark and windy so we asked Ester if we could move inside (before any food was served). She said "yes, we can find a table inside for you. When we moved inside Ester seemed to be really angry. She ignored our table, we had to ask someone else for service then Ester came to our table and was extremely rude. We asked her why she was angry, she said "you must understand when you move to a different table it causes all sorts of problems and the bill cannot be separated. It was really unbelievable how rude she was. When I said to her "thanks for ruining our night" she walked away without comment. One person in our party went to complain to the Manager, He said "she is in training". Like that is some kind of excuse? The Manager did not even come to our table to apologize. Came here for brunch with my girls. They seated us near the pond which was a lovely view. The food was good! They let us order the Brix Chips which wasn't on the brunch menu. My favorite thing was probably the Brix chips! It had so much flavor and was perfectly cheesy! The only complaint I had was the portion of the country fried chicken. For $17, they only give you 1 small piece of fried chicken and 1/3 of it was batter. Although the chicken itself was very good, I was left wishing there was more. Well when you've had a tough defeat at the your college football game, you need to find a good tavern to shake it off. Well we found the right one. Our group decided to stop at Brix Tavern on the way home. Great decision! The food and beverages were great. Our waiter Tearsa was a delight, she really made us feel welcome. I ordered the fish and chips, which was very good. The fish actually had a little spice to it, which was a welcome surprise. The atmosphere is very casual and comfortable. This was my first time visiting, although I have been to the Brix in the Pearl in Portland. The location of this one is interesting but right by a lake for a nice view. The parking lot is big with plenty of parking and you enter through the big door entrance. Walking in, I was greeted with the open and spacious bar and dining area with a casual but also elevated vibe. I came to meet a few friends in the back room where I assume they have private events. It was nice and open, perfect for big groups and events with large screens and its own family-friendly bathroom. I was torn between the pulled pork sandwich or a burger but it turns out I didn't have to choose because there exists the West Burger which was the best of both worlds (pulled pork topping for a burger) and bonus with a fried egg on top! I had to get the tater tots and they came out hot and crispy with a side of ketchup. Side note you can also get Cajun tots but I didn't know that I can do that or else I would have gone that route. Everyone else in my group also enjoyed their food and drinks as well. Definitely a crowd pleaser and something for everyone. Happy Hour deals looked good too so might return for that! read more

I've been here twice in the past 6 months and both times it has been very busy with not great service. The most recent visit we made reservations for 4 to sit on the patio by the lake. Shortly after we were seated we had our drink orders taken but were told that the manager had asked that they not put in dinner orders yet because they were so behind. We ended up being able to place a calamari order for an appetizer. It was fairly small when it came out and it felt like we had to ration it because we had to wait until dinner could be cooked. When dinner came out it was lukewarm. I ordered the mahi mahi and coconut shrimp and while it presented nicely it was just okay. I would have liked for the plate to be warmer. The rice also felt very crispy, like it was sitting out. This was a bit of a turnoff for me. A table of 4 women of course needs to look at a dessert menu so we split the brownie and the lava cake. They both came out slightly warmed. They were decent but didn't seem homemade. The lava cake had a strange crispiness to it that I can't describe but which through me off. It seemed the 'lava' was only in about a quarter sized sliver of the cake. Overall, great ambience by the lake and the intention of the place is there but execution needs work. read more

Lost the stars as it was a very basic burger patty. The tots were great, hard to mess up though. The salads looked generous. But the burger was a small patty with not much flavor. If you cover it up enough with other stuff maybe it's okay but it's a tavern they should have a good burger. I do eat my burger pretty plain but then I actually taste the meat and spices. The appetizers were good. The calamari was tender not chewy. The pretzel was good and liked the cheese dips. Also used the dips for some chips. My wife and I really liked Brix tavern in Tualatin when it first opened. But little by little the service has gone downhill. We went there last Saturday March 28th, after seeing a movie. In all my years of writing reviews, this place is a record for abysmal service. As we arrived, the hostess was in a friendly conversation with another employee. She saw us, and then continued to talk...and talk. Finally, she was able to tear herself away and seat us. I was assuming this would be the low point. Wrong. We sat for several minutes. There were three servers in the bar area. Two were amicably working and one got mad about something, one of the others apologized to her. This was apparently not sufficient, as she continued to slam glasses and anything else she touched. When she would walk off, the other two would try to figure out how to appease her, and still no one cared to give us water or menus or admit our existence. After 20 minutes we decided to leave, and finally one of the three employees deigned to ask us what we wanted. We ordered drinks-mine was good, my husbands was straight liquor and no mix. I ordered a pretzel- which was fine. My husband ordered Mac and cheese (greasy, but edible). I know someone will likely comment- why stay? We had just driven in from Seattle and had intended to eat at Mashita's around the corner, but they were closed and we were exhausted and starving. The interior is nice. Most of the people working here seemed legitimately miserable. That is usually a management issue. It was also Labor Day, so maybe that was why? I will add a star just in case. read more

I met a friend here for coffee. I went to other location but never this one. I ended up ordering their crab omelette. It was pretty good. The coffee however was really bitter and too strong. Usually we love this place but today we had Halley R. First, we didn't get water for over 10 minutes after being seated. Then, my girlfriend's salad didn't have dressing and we had to chase the waitress down to get some. My fork had food in it... and we were never given the morning doughnuts we usually get. When we inquired, Halley said "You have to ask for them and you didn't so I didn't bring any". When she brought them, they were cold and very greasy! And finally, we had to chase her down again to get our bill paid and request take out boxes. I hope management reviews our experience with her so that it doesn't happen to anyone else. Very pleasantly surprised by the food here! We came for Sunday brunch with a reservation and it was pretty busy inside. The restaurant is quite spacious and looks modern with the industrial elements, this restaurant really made use of the space from the previous establishment. I got the Wild Mushroom & Brie Omelette with Hash. Not sure if these come with every table but the server brought us some mini donuts as a complimentary treat. It was a nice appetizer to start while waiting for our food to come. I really enjoyed the omelette, there was an herby flavor I liked and it wasn't too heavy on the cheese. But the hash browns were the highlight for me! I love the crunchy outside and soft inside, you could really taste the potatoes. And not to mention the price wasn't too expensive either. Came in last evening around 6pm. I made reservations for 4 via there website. The place was happening with lots of young gorgeous people. We got seated right away near the window in the back. Our waitress was super sweet. I wish I could remember her name. The service was awesome. She got the Atlantic salmon and I got the fried chicken with vegetables and mashed potatoes. We both enjoyed our meals. She liked the crispiness or her salmon and I love my chicken breasts. The gravy on the chicken breasts was really good. The chicken breast is thin, breaded and deep fried. It's was so good. The food was hot and plentiful. I even had to take some home with me. My friend's husband really enjoyed his prime rib too. They even smothered it with mushrooms too. I asked three people for a soup spoon which wasn't provided until I finally got one from another server 15 minutes later. It was not busy as it was Memorial Day. I ordered a burger medium that was well done. Someone in our party asked for another drink. She received it 15 minutes later and it was terrible! Again, NOT BUSY!
