The food was good. Portion sizes were small. We told them it was our anniversary. They said they would send us up some bubbly. I assumed it was complementary. Then when the bill came, it was $18 extra on the bill. Overpriced wouldn't recommend. read more

Mediocre food, mediocre service, mediocre manager, tired ambiance. Would not recommend this place, do not bother. It was our mistake to try this cafe. It's a lot of great dining establishments along the Hamilton street where people know what they're doing and know what is customer service is. read more

The main entrance was closed, but the restaurant was still open. Just had to walk around the block to the back door. I sat at the bar since I did not have reservations. The bartender was very nice, attentive, and friendly. The bar was fully stocked. I really enjoyed the Popin Jay beer on the happy hour menu. The chicken liver pate off the happy hour menu was not the best I've had. I would order something else next time. However, the salmon was very good. My only gripe here is that they only had 1 bathroom available which was shared for men and women. A guy was in there for a very long time and so I had to go elsewhere to use the bathroom after dinner. read more

THANK YOU FOR SOMEONE ACTUALLY CARING ABOUT THEIR BUSINESS! We just hosted a company dinner at Brix & Mortar for 12 of us last night. From the response time, the genuine excitement from the owners to have our business, the attention to detail, communications leading up to our dinner, special accommodations, to the AWESOME service during dinner and warmth we all felt, this set a new bar for how any restaurant in this city should emulate! I would have posted a photo, but with all the attention, fun, and amazing service we had...we forgot to take photos! Thank you Brix & Mortar for being HUNGRY for the business, CARING about your business and the people that make your business what it is...which is a STANDOUT in Vancouver. We will be booking all of our dinners/events with you going forward. read more

This resto is in the heart of Yaletown. There is a very nice ambiance here, and service was attentive. It's a place where you can dress up a bit which is always nice! Onto the food... we had the scallops, the duck, and the beef tartare. They were all really good! I would have the beef tartare and the duck again if I went back. All in all, a solid place for dinner! read more

My favorite thing about this place was the atmosphere. Came here post quarantine and it was definitely a great choice. They're very strict with their covid protocol so you can eat here with ease. The food itself was good. Every dish was quite salty however, a bit too much for my taste. And I feel like the Korean pulled pork poutine did not have the depth of flavor I would have liked. However that smoked duck was delicious, albeit a bit salty (with this dish being understandable since it's smoked) that cornbeef potato gratin that it was served with was honestly genius and was the highlight of the meal for me. Definitely ordered a bit too much haha but I'm happy with it ^ ^. I would come back just for the atmosphere and to try different dishes. read more

My boyfriend and I came here to celebrate 1 year of dating. It's been on my list of places to go to but it's a bit fancier than where we usually dine, so it was fitting as a special night out. Unfortunately the service could have been better- although our waitress was helpful in giving suggestions of what to order, she could have been more attentive. I don't recall her coming by to ask how our food was and when I was done, she simply took the plate away without saying anything or asking how it was. But on the good stuff! The fffoooddd. And that's what it's mostly about, let's be honest. I ordered the Gelderman Farm Pork Chop which was a 10/10. The pork chop was thick and cooked to perfection, brushed with a delicious BBQ sauce. It was spicy because the rice and bacon mix was cooked with kimchi and even though I don't usually like much spice, I couldn't stop eating it. My boyfriend was torn between ordering the lamb shank or the carbonara pasta. He asked the server for her suggestion and she suggested the pasta which surprised me because I read good reviews about how amazing the lamb is (I myself don't eat lamb otherwise I would have ordered it myself). While the pasta was very good and super flavourful, he did slightly regret not ordering the lamb. Cocktails are also superb. I had the Sitka Sour which is true to the name- very sour but very tasty. My boyfriend had the Sugar Cane Flower which he was very happy with (and he's not much of a cocktail drinker) - it was nicely balanced. Overall, while service could have been better we would return for another special night out or event. read more

Came here for dine outside 2020 for their $45 set menu and was able to sit in their courtyard, so beautiful! Almost all of their set menu items were already on their regular menu. Appetizers Tuna tataki - very refreshing with a light soy dressing and watermelons? Surprisingly works well with the dish Pork belly - a generous portion of crispy tender pork belly with pickled vegetables, peanuts, and I think fish sauce. Luckily it wasn't too heavy and was my favourite out of the two. Entrees Sockeye Salmon - Im not a big fan of cooked salmon in general but this dish was so much better than I expected! It had many different sides that complemented the seared fish well. I especially loved the salsa verde and potato hash. The salmon itself was nicely seasoned and flaky. Brome Lake Duck Breast - the duck was pastrami spiced on the skin and juicy on the inside. The dirty rice had all the ingredients like a fried rice and the seasoning of the duck skin. I really loved both entrees and the duck is a better alternative if you're looking for something heavier. Desserts Lemon panna cotta - very creamy and acidic from the roasted pineapple on top Fresh fruit sorbet - we got a strawberry sorbet with little fruit pearls. The sorbet reminded me of a strawberry jam. Overall, I had an amazing time at brix and mortar, the beautiful dining area, lovely servers, the food is especially so good. It's not even that expensive as a regular entree is on average $30 per plate. I've been to "high end" restaurants that priced more but weren't as good. Definitely would love to come again! read more

Great small plates & wine. Came here for a night out with a girlfriend. We had a great time. Great food, service, and atmosphere. We had several small plates, all tasted wonderful. We had beef tartar, prosciutto wrapped sea scallops, & bourbon chicken liver pate. Plus a nice bottle of wine. All looked beautifully presented, filling and great for sharing. We also had dessert, a dark chocolate mousses which was a letdown, we debated on not having dessert as nothing really appealed to us but maybe the wine made us do it. We opted not to have dinner entrees. I will defiantly be back to try out other menu items and to eat in the courtyard. Cant wait! read more

M A J O R unpopular opinion . . . I am honestly so so disappointed to write this review as Brix & Mortar has been on my saved list for a couple years. When you hear about the establishment, you think of the beautiful decor, delicious looking food, yummy wines and cocktails and the most beautiful and instagram worthy wedding pictures. My boyfriend had made reservations for my birthday and I was beyond stoked! We ordered some wine and drinks and munched on focaccia bread as our appetizer. For our entrees, we decided on their featured menu items: New York steak with fondant potato pesto and Seafood Cioppino. Honestly, we could have not been any more disappointed. STEAK: I asked for it medium rare and it came out well done. The server let us know that it looks well done but it's actually medium rare. However it was dry and tough. If you're a regular steak eater/lover like me, you know the difference between well done and medium rare. On top of that, half of the steak was fat. It was pretty much 40% fat and 60% meat. SEAFOOD: When I took a bite, I immediately felt a loud crunch of something in my mouth. I spat it out in my napkin and saw pieces of what looked like little rocks. I obviously am aware that seafood is covered by rocks/sand when picked from the ocean, however if I am paying $45+ for a dish, I expect for them to have scrubbed the seafood shells clean to ensure things like that doesn't happen. We tried to flag down our waitress couple times to inform her about our meal but she was no where to be seen. Having been a waitress myself, I know how busy it can get but I also think it's really important to get to every table after delivering the food to check on their meal and how they are doing. But nothing. I am the type of person that will always try to finish my meal, even after the first couple bad bites. But this time, I couldn't. I do give it 2 stars for the customer service by the manager that helped us. Since our waitress was busy, we asked the manager to get our bill and then we explained to him of what happened and our experience. He was super apologetic and understanding. He even took the price of the cioppino off our bill. Unfortunately I don't think I will return for a long long time. read more

This is another well-appointed restaurant in Yaletown. I do have to come back for their entrees! Their wine list is extensive and service was amazing. Well this place is excellent. Waitress and waiter were amazing. Food was flawless and my water was never empty. Ambiance was lovely and we had a nice corner seat in the courtyard to take it all in. We had focaccia to start. It was perfect. Served with olive oil and aged balsamic (separately which was genius). I always want more balsamic and my partner always wants more olive oil. He ordered the prosciutto wrapped scallops with duck risotto to start. I had the poached egg on spinach salad. We inhaled both our starters with zero hesitation. Mains were: beef tenderloin (which he generously shared with me) and gnudi with cauliflower purée. Both very satisfying Dessert of Caramel apple waffle and Chocolate peanut butter mousse. I am very VERY PICKY WITH DESSERTS. Both were scrumptious. We were completely stuffed. Zero complaints. The waitress and waiter checked on us regularly without ever seeming like they were rushing or hovering over us. Something that's hard to get right. Even the lighting in the washroom is flattering. During the meal the waiter even adjusted the outdoor heating because it was uncomfortably warm when we were seated. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!! We will be back :D read more

If money isn't an issue and you're looking for a nice spot with white table cloths and wine glasses, then look no further because Brix and Mortar will have you leaving with a lighter wallet, but most importantly a full and completely satisfied tummy. Chances are that you've only heard of Brix and Mortar because you were looking for it - by word of mouth or Instagram pics - so either way you know what you're getting into and thus I'll keep this short and sweet. Here's some of the important takeaways from my first and recent visit: 1) Parking - it can be a bit of a pain. Scratch that - it can be a REAL pain if you're not tactical or lucky with finding parking anywhere in downtown for that matter. Be prepared to spend an extra 20 mins scouting around to find parking in the Yaletown area before your reso time. Once you've found the parking, depending on where you've parked, be prepared to spend a bit of coin on it, too. After all, you will be in Yaletown. 2) Service - absolutely fantastic service from our waiter and the other servers. They were all so cheerful and polite and happily offered their recommendations on drink pairings and food menu items. Our food came out fairly quick and the waiters were always good to us in terms of checking on us for any potential missed issues to attend or leaving us alone to enjoy our evening. 3) French fries - if there is anything you should take away from this review, it's this. Order the french fries. ORDER THE FRENCH FRIES. Just do it, mate. These are by far the best french fries I have ever experienced in my life. I felt as though they had been made by a true master of the craft, salted perfectly with salt from the tears of Salt Bae himself, fried exquisitely in the fires of Mt Doom to produce such a powerful handheld of mythical proportions. All in all, would definitely come back. I've got nothing bad to say. Everything was solid, and you get what you pay for. read more

First time here and we had the Dine Out Vancouver Festival menu and our experienced was very good. The restaurant is not busy upon opening at 5pm. I was "wowed" at the place when I came in. Their setting was really lovely and very romantic. Staff are friendly especially our server Nick who always check our needs. The foods we ordered are all very good in overall tastes and presentation. Highly recommended to try. A bit pricey but definitely worth it. read more

This restaurant is too loud for me, but food is decent. Came here for dinner on a Saturday because I wanted to try their salmon. Service was really fast! The waitress strongly recommended the focaccia bread so we ordered it. It was amazing! So soft and fresh. The wild salmon was cooked medium so the fish is moist, but that also means the fish was lukewarm, which I didn't love. My partner loved his ricotta gnocchi. We also ordered the dark chocolate pot du creme, but for the price, we expected a lot more in flavour. It was very average tasting. In conclusion, food is decent but not special compared to lots of other restaurants downtown. The only thing preventing me from coming back is the small tables placed close together and the noise level as a result. We had to shout across the table in order to hear each other, and it got very tiring after a while. read more

This place never fails to excite your taste buds. It's such a perfect mix of romantic (the venue is amazing), tasty, and great service. Staff are so friendly, and our server Cal was just the right amount of attentive while also giving us our space. Thank you! All of the dishes were so great-- plus a special highlight to the bartender Dylan for mixing us up a great summery cocktail. This place competes with many of the pricier spots in Yaletown/Vancouver, yet it's half the price and even better quality over all. Thank you for a lovely evening! read more

Be careful that they are now moved to Hamilton Street from Homer Street and they display it on a teeny tiny sign at their old spot on a side door. You may think that they are permanently closed looking at the dark restaurant like I did for a minute. I really recommend getting the cheese board at this place. Although I wish the cheese types were written somewhere on the menu rather than the server describes 5-6 of them to you. I forget them easily so end up asking at least 3 more times. Would make the decision process much easier. The cheeses are served on a board with fruit preserves, almonds, some crackers, olives and cornichons. I found the mix delicious and different than other places. Also loved their Rosata BC wine. Their wine selection is extensive which would make this place a nice spot for a cheese & wine kind of night. My friend got the Ratatouille as her main which I had a chance to taste and it was delicious as well. I do not recommend the Panna Cotta though. It was very light and came apart easily. Like not sure if it was fully cooked. It wasn't infused with flavour, also the top was filled with extensive amounts of whipped cream which was weird (not your traditional panna cotta topping and why would you put it on a already cream based dessert) Skip it and choose another dessert. read more

Let me tell you a secret. Brix & Mortar's food is generally quite expensive, and reading the menu at a glance isn't necessarily very inspiring. I wouldn't blame you for looking elsewhere for something more affordable. But you know what's really very fun? Heading to Brix & Mortar for Happy Hour, getting four or five $9 appetizers, and splitting them between two people. You pay less each than you would for a single entree, they're all genuinely really delicious, and you get a ton of variety! And variety is something you don't often find outside of tapas bars. I've done this a few times now, and I can only recommend it. They've got really excellent happy hour dishes that seem to rotate seasonally, and you can easily combine into a full meal. Last time I went, my absolute favourite was the "Tomato on Toast." If that sounds boring, don't be fooled - this is some of the best cheesy, tomatoey goodness on toast I've ever had. But, astonishingly, every appetizer I've had here is not only good, but great. Other restaurants have simple, plain appetizers that are fine but can't really stand on their own, but Brix & Mortar goes all-in on quality even on these smaller dishes. This is one of my favourite happy hour places in town, for the sheer quality of their offerings. Plus, they also did my company's holiday party one year, and the food was great then too. So the quality is there, and under the right conditions the price is right! read more

I want to start with a shout-out to our server, Ryan. He was amazing! He was personable, friendly, knowledgeable, and gave THE BEST recommendations on everything from drinks to dessert (we asked, he was not pushy). I told him what flavors we typically like and he came through for us! The food was tasty and priced accordingly, but the real winner here was the ambiance! It was well lit with modern, fine dining vibes. Definitely a great date night spot with plenty of classy bars nearby for a little post-dinner night cap. read more

Made our reservation online through The website last minute for 4 people prime time on a Wednesday in June. We were celebrating my father in laws 70th and Father's Day. From the moment we arrived to the time we left service was spot on. They were able to accommodate us upstairs in the terrace, and it sure made it feel much more special. Wine was reasonably priced not crazy over priced. We started with splitting muscles and they were spot on. Excellent size portion, and the flavour was incredible. I ordered the halibut, and was not disappointed. It was perfectly cooked, and seemed super fresh. They surprised the birthday boy with a free pana cota for desert. Really nice touch. We wanted to go some where that felt authentic not just like everywhere else and we found it. Cheers. Will be back for sure! read more

I had an amazing date night with my honey. thank you Craig and Corbin for your fabulous service.

Took my girlfriend here for a birthday dinner on a trip to Vancouver and it was great. We had to change our reservations due to a border crossing delay and they were very accommodating. The inside is very cool, with vines and a beautiful chandelier! We were seated timely and our server was very nice offering wine samples (3) and extra whiskey samples before we chose our drinks. The muscles and beet salad are a must. My girlfriend had the salmon and I the fried chicken. Both were good , but I think the salmon was the better dish. The chicken was southern style with a heavy, spiced Cajun sauce. Definitely check this place out for a great meal with nice service read more

I came here with a few friends on Canada day and I was immediately wow'd by the decor. It's very classy and fitting for a Yaletown joint. I made a reservation earlier that day and was able to get a large table on the patio which was amazing and the weather so nice that day, so it was perfect. I was pretty impressed with the service as well. I ordered a beef tartare for the first time and found it wasn't to my liking and our server was able to replace it with the scallops! 3.5 stars we enjoyed the salmon cakes, pork appetizer ; the 48 sous vide beef ribs was not good (texture&taste was off) , i think i can make a better beef bourguignon than this but the grits that came with it was quite delicious, their curry lamb special with gnocchi was fine, i think the sweet peas and cheese complimented the dish. the lamb needed some mint jelly , the truffled risotto that came with it was good. too bad they dont have the duck dish anymore. ambiance was fine and chill while the service was friendly and attentive. read more

I almost don't want to provide a review for this one. Now that I've "found it" again, I don't want to share this very special gem. Realizing how lucky we are as Vancouverites to be able to do this right now, my date and I wrangled up the last 2 chairs in what turned out to be a magical little courtyard oasis. Brix has a stunning and diverse menu but we were only after a cocktail and light bite - the entire team, from Host to Server to the Proprietor himself stopping by to check on us, treated us like VIPs. I've identified a menu item I can't wait to try and can already report that the fried cauliflower salad is complex, delicious and will be my starter next time. The setting, the team, the artfully created cocktails, upgraded the already great night we were having to pure Magic. read more

I like to try any good French restaurant in town and Brix is one of French restaurant on my list. I picked Brix and came here with my girlfriend for casual dinner on Sat night. When we walked in the entrance, I liked the atmosphere and the courtyard setting patio which fully enclosed and heated. However, we didn't seat outside. The menu was not much selection, only 5-6 items for appetizer and main course. Well.. but each item on the menu was good. The waitress was friendly and helpful. I had Seared Sea Scallops as appy, it's delicious!! The greens were fresh and salad dressing was great. My entrée was beef tenderloin, it was ok. Not too juicy and tender. My girlfriend had pickled beet salad, it's so fresh and salad dressing was light and favorable. She had smoked sablefish gnocchi, the sablefish was thin and tiny but gnocchi with white wine cream was rich and tasty. I probably will return to try other dishes in the summer time and enjoy such nice atmosphere at the patio. read more

My friend and I were in town visiting and decided to dine at Brix & Mortar per the recommendation of a friend. We ordered the set menu for $55/person. We ordered a couple drinks while we waited. The paper plane was delicious and comes with a cute origami crane on the rim of the glass. For the 1st course I ordered the tiger prawns which came with pickled cauliflower and micro greens. The prawns were cooked absolutely perfectly and was a great start to the meal. For the second course I ordered the pan seared Ling Cod which came with vadouvan spiced cauliflower, peas, cashews, cherry tomatoes, and crab. The dish was pretty good overall; the fish was seared perfectly and everything tasted great together. My only complaint would be that I didn't really see any crab on my plate which was rather disappointing. I also was not a huge fan of the white sauce dotted on the sides of the plate. Tasted a lot like a generic tartar sauce, very heavy on the mayonnaise. For desert I had the cereal milk panna cotta with raspberry compote. The flavors were a great idea, however I found that the raspberries were far too tart and the panna cotta itself was a little more of a jello consistency than I'm used to. I prefer it when it sort of melts in your mouth. Overall I enjoyed Brix & Mortar. Our waitress was attentive, and the food was good for the most part. I'm a bit of a foodie and perhaps a little on the knit picky side, so take my review with a grain of salt. Next time we are in Vancouver I would be interested to stop by here again. read more

You better be putting on your fancy pants on if you're planning on coming to Brix & Mortar. Once you walk through the small alleyway and go through the black curtains, you are welcomed into an indoor/outdoor patio that looks like a scene out of a European courtyard. Ivy vines hanging all over their stone walls, chandeliers, black framed windows, french doors - it's hard not to feel fancy the minute you walk in. We decided to come in on a Wednesday night and we were immediately asked if we had a reservation. Lucky for us, we were able to get a seat on the patio right away. However, if this were on a Thursday or weekend evening, I can bet our chances of a patio seat without a reservation would have been slim. Their wine menu is extensive, with a fantastic selection. Brix & Mortar, for the most part, brings in local BC wines, but adds in a bit of European and California varietals as well. Perfect if you want to mix things up. On this particular night my friend and I decided to have a wine and cheese dinner. Her choice of liquid: pinot gris, my choice of liquid: sauvignon blanc. We decided to go for the 5 cheese platter: blue cheese, triple creme brie, manchego, and more. My cheese-loving heart couldn't handle the yumminess. The platter also came with assorted fruits, jams, bread and crackers. My personal fave? The complimentary bread paired with triple-creme brie cheese. Holy smokes, was this good. The bread had just a dash of salt right on the top, but that was just enough. It was delicious. Whether it's date night or girls night, this is the perfect spot. read more
