As an adult patient from approximately 2005 to 2008, I encountered maybe one or two employees who seemed less dedicated than others (i.e. finding exceptional staff has always been a challenge for employers, much like it is today). However, I recognized that these individuals were young and gaining experience. I was able to overlook these minor shortcomings because I, too, was once in their position and appreciated the mentors who helped me succeed. It is essential for employees to take responsibility for their own development, just as employers must create a supportive and safe environment for growth. Throughout my time at Orthodontics by Crutchfield, I found that Dr. Crutchfield and his team consistently upheld this standard. Fast forward to the present, and my son is now receiving fantastic care at OBC. He inherited jaw and mouth impairments that require meticulous management and Dr. Crutchfield was the only orthodontist in a 40 mile radius of our home that developed a thorough treatment plan utilizing cutting-edge technology and referred us to leading specialists for pre-orthodontic services, all while remotely tracking our son's progress to reduce our travel needs. Additionally, during a family wedding in the West, my son experienced an orthodontic emergency. Given the time difference, I realized that Dr. Crutchfield's office would be closed. I promptly followed the OBC emergency protocol and communicated our situation. Fortunately, I located a local orthodontist who agreed to help. Within the same hour, I received a personal text and follow up phone call from Dr. Crutchfield, who had already coordinated with the local orthodontist to ensure our son received the necessary care and to continue his treatment. This level of service was remarkable. I later discovered that Dr. Crutchfield's office had sent appreciation desserts to the local orthodontist as a gesture of gratitude for their assistance in caring for our son while we were far from home. All of this was done at no cost to us! I highly recommend Orthodontics by Crutchfield (OBC) for its welcoming, family-oriented environment and evident professionalism. During our visits, I have the chance to engage directly with Dr. Crutchfield and his team while waiting for my son's adjustments. During his ortho journey, we have had only the best service by his team, and that of Dr. Crutchfield. It is heartening to see both adult and young patients leaving with smiles, reflecting a practice that genuinely values exceptional service, professionalism and skill. When I starting to question them, they never give me an answer about my insurance. The front desk person (son of the Dr. Claudio) who was in charge in all the insurance told me that: filling does not covered by my insurance, but it is wrong! My insurance covers part of it. I hope it was an simple mistake and the only thing I need is an answer. Why didn't I get my benefits? I am working with my insurance now and I noticed Dr. Claudio is an OUT NETWORK doctor. In this case, he has the duty to tell me, but why he reported my treatment to my insurance? Right now Chantilly Smile kicked me out! They haven't contact me for almost 2 months after a phone call which told they will check the doctor's schedule and call me back... And, I wrote a letter on their website but I could not send it out... am I blocked by someone? Everyone please: know about your own insurance and understand all your benefits! Dr. Tisseront was more than happy to take the time to call my friend after office hours and spend more than an hour explaining his recommendation. I have been wearing harmony braces (hidden behind your teeth) for three months now and everyone is amazed at how quickly my teeth have moved. I already have a beautiful smile! When all is said and done I will have spent upwards of 10K (they have a very reasonable payment plan) but I don't think I would trust anyone else with my teeth at this point and feel like this was a truly an investment well made.

Because of this referral, I quickly exhausted my insurance benefits and was left paying much higher out-of-pocket costs. To make matters worse, when I raised concerns about this, the office was not willing to take responsibility or work toward a resolution. I was still charged an additional $647, which they would not waive despite the circumstances. Overall, this experience was frustrating both from a care standpoint and a financial transparency standpoint. I expected a normal appointment, but I was told I needed deep cleaning, four fillings, and even molar extractions. At checkout, I was suddenly informed that the practice was out-of-network, even though the person who booked my appointment had checked my insurance. This should have been disclosed upfront. I cancelled future appointments because of this. A couple weeks later I felt food getting stuck in one tooth, so I asked for my exam notes and X-rays so I could see an in-network provider. I only received the X-rays -- no clinical exam notes -- which meant I couldn't take that information to another dentist. This made me feel stuck and forced to return. On November 12, I went back for what I believed were simple fillings that I was quoted around $260 for when making an appointment. After I was already numbed and lying in the dental chair under anesthesia, the dentist told me out of nowhere that I now "needed a crown" instead. The billing staff then told me the cost would be around $1,900. I was shocked and confused, especially because I could barely speak clearly due to the anesthesia. When I questioned it, instead of explaining anything medically, I was repeatedly told about payment plans. I sent the billing staff back THREE separate times asking for clarification, but each time I felt more and more pressured. At one point, I was told that because the holidays were coming, the office would be closed for two weeks -- and if I didn't get the crown right now, I might end up with an emergency. Hearing that while numb, unable to fully process, and already anxious made me feel scared and trapped. I did not feel like I was given a real choice in that moment. I ultimately agreed because I was frightened and overwhelmed, not because I was comfortable with the treatment plan. Only after getting off the chair did I notice more concerning things -- the discount I was told about was not honored, the charges were confusing, and none of the explanations made sense. I left the office feeling taken advantage of during a time when I was vulnerable and unable to advocate for myself fully. No patient should ever feel pressured into a costly procedure while under anesthesia. I hope this office truly reevaluates how they communicate, disclose costs, and treat patients who simply want honest information and options.
