I've had ~10 root canals and 3x as many cavities filled in my lifetime. Additionally, I have been bringing my family to Chantilly Dental Center for 15+ years. Some years are better than others and the reviews here reflect that (people typically write a review when it's a bad experience, so good experiences aren't always documented). But they're in their heyday. I see Dr. Vu now for all my work. He and his assistant, Pari, are the dynamic duo. He is SO careful....and SHE is so caring in her bedside manner... Call and book Dr. Vu. Yeah, he's weird, ok. But it's b/c he's trying to inform you on everything that's happening. And he's good at sharing this, but he's also GREAT at making sure you're numb. If I could give zero stars, I would. I came to Chantilly Dental Center for a root canal, expecting professional and thorough care. Instead, I ended up with a serious infection that was overlooked twice, once at the time of my root canal and again after my temporary crown broke off. Despite my concerns, the dentist failed to properly address the issue, leaving me in unnecessary pain and at risk for further complications. This level of negligence is completely unacceptable for any medical professional, especially a dentist who is supposed to prioritize patient health. I am now dealing with the consequences of their carelessness, and I am strongly considering taking legal action if this is not handled properly. I would not recommend this office to anyone looking for quality dental care. If you value your health, go elsewhere. read more

The past few years this place has really gone downhill in quality. I've been coming here since I was a very young child and I am 26 now. This place used to be so amazing with me as a child until my late teens. The last few years honestly have been unacceptable when it comes to service. Being called for appointments late, dentists dismissing concerns, minimizing pain, rushing through visits - I've been told I just have to deal with the pain/discomfort with chewing because my back molars are too high now because the other two were drilled down too low. I had no way to tell when I was numb, but now with all the pressure hitting one tooth when I chew, it's very painful if I forget to chew with my other teeth. Consistently, I am called 20+ minutes late into my visit every single time. I recently had a visit where it was originally 10am and they called and asked me to come at 8am a day or two before. I agreed to avoid having a patient seen before me - this was supposed to be my last visit with them because I needed to get a hole in my tooth filled. I arrive at 7:55am, checked in by 8am. I was told the dental assistant hasn't even shown up (15 or so minutes into my visit and that they were in contact with the manager who didn't even tell them when the DA would arrive). By 8:30, I asked for my copay to be refunded and requested a record release because it's very clear the patients time is not valued. The receptionists have been doing their job which is communicating to the patient, I understand they are just the messenger and they did their part. My parents also used to go here for many years and stopped for these similar reasons, I just needed my dental issues fixed before I went elsewhere. I will not be recommending this place to anyone, and if anyone asks me what dentist to go to I will clearly tell them to not come here. read more

Been coming here for a couple of years and the asian dentist is super rude. He's never introduced himself so I don't know who he is. He looked at a cavity last time I was there and said, "Ew". That was the last straw. This is the 3rd time he's made a rude comment during a visit. He makes little side comments here and there every time I go and it's completely unprofessional. Not everyone can have perfect teeth with regular flossing and brushing. I try my best but there really is no need to make me feel bad. Almost 8 months to do the right procedure On 08/15/2020 - I had an appointment for a routine cleaning. They do the cleaning, but suggest that I need to get a deep cleaning on schedule. They informed me they would call my insurance to get a prior authorization done for this and give me a call back to schedule the deep cleaning. Meanwhile, they tell the front desk to set a tentative date (02/20/2021) On 02/20/2021 - I show up for the appointment. This is on me, I haven't heard from them about the deep cleaning, I assumed I would find out more at the appointment or maybe this was the deep cleaning since I was already on the schedule. WRONG... they tell me that they can't do any regular cleaning and that I needed a deep cleaning and need prior authorization. I mentioned to them that at the last appointment, they mentioned they were getting the prior authorization and I thought that this is what the appointment would be in place for. They said no. They send me to the front desk, telling the admin to get the prior authorization and put a note to contact me when it comes through. 03/03/2021 - I haven't heard from the office, so I decide to give them a call and check the update. I told the person on the phone the issue. Asked if the prior authorization was approved and if I can schedule my appointment for the deep cleaning. They sounded confused, asked who I spoke to about this. I had to go through the whole story again how at the last appointment they told me they were going to get a prior authorization for my deep cleaning. The person on the phone said there was no note of this, but they can make a note and get back to me on it. 03/18/2021 - It has been over almost a month... I called again. Asked if the prior authorization came through... They said they had not heard from them yet. End of call. 03/22/2021 - I finally decide to call my insurance company to see what is causing the delay. Maybe they're backed up due to covid related issues. Insurance company informs me that the request wasn't submitted until 03/09/2021, and it was approved on 03/14/2021. This means it was approved by the time I called the week before. I call Chantilly Dental right away and explain to them that the insurance company said it has been approved and if they could check their system. They said they'll call me back. Calls back later and tells me it has in fact been approved and they never received any correspondence regarding it. Insurance company has assured me that they sent back the approved request. Anyway, I schedule my 2 appointments needed and go on about my day. 03/29/2021 - Staff member calls me telling me that prior authorization has been approved and I can schedule my appointments. I'm confused because I am already scheduled for the procedure. They check the system and tell me they see it now. I don't know why they didn't check prior to calling me and making me think my appointments are cancelled. 04/03/2021 - Before the Peridontal Cleaning, I requested if I could do it without the anesthesia because I have had it done at my former dental office. They said ok. Went along with the process. After the process was completed, the Hygenist then mentions that I should get the anesthesia for a deeper cleaning next time because they did an altered version. I don't understand why they didn't consult me prior. Im not a dental expert. I didn't know. I asked since my former dentist was able to do a deep cleaning without it. It's just frustrating that the consult came AFTER they finished and not before. 04/10/2021 - This is my second appointment. Nothing crazy, but it is my last visit to this office. Both times they charged me my copay + extra $10 Office visit. I have never heard of this before. It usually is just the copay. I feel like they just added an extra charge to get more money. I'm sorry, but after all this, I just need to find another office. Summary, I don't know if there's miscommunication between staff or notes aren't followed through, but Prior authorization wasn't submitted for almost 3 weeks... and they never followed up on it. I felt like if I never called the insurance company, they would have never scheduled me or reach back out. Fairly unprofessional in my opinion. Also, there is a lot of disconnect and confusion. Just overall very frustrating. To be fair, prior encounters weren't bad. Basic stuff where they explain everything to you. Just feel a bit lost in the system after this one experience. I've had a few procedures done before and it seemed efficient. Just this prior authorization stuff for other procedures, you're probably better off elsewhere if you don't want to wait around. read more

Ruuuuuuude! I came here a few years ago to get a whitening and bought a groupon that made no mention of "not for previous customers". I booked my appt over the phone mentioning my groupon and that I was a previous customer. It was fine, I got an appt date and time. Took some PTO and came in. Since my booking of the appt a change in policy had occurred that would not allow customers to purchase groupons of different services. The person at the desk stated it was new. So new that someone in the same boat as me YESTERDAY was allowed to get their cleaning. I can overlook a lot of things with a business. I can bring up their cleanliness to the office manager. If someone is rude I will bring that up to the office manager as well. But one thing I cannot overlook is trust. This clinic has violated trust and holds no honor to what they sell. Groupon shows a high rating of 78 for this company. If you believe those ratings then I have some beachfront properties in Las Vegas to sell you! I am a dental chicken because I've had some extremely painful dental experiences. I needed a root canal which I was very apprehensive about. I called Chantilly Dental Center because I thought my insurance would cover the treatment at that office and I saw the qualifications of Endodontist, Dr. Miami Yamaguchi. After I met here and the office staff I knew it was a good fit. Ramonica at the front desk and Isabel the office manager were friendly and professional. They are very nice people. Unfortunately my insurance didn't cover the treatment. Based on my first experience, I was willing to drive over an hour to this office. It was worth it. Dr Yamaguchi is very patient focused and a perfectionist. I appreciated that she didn't rush the injected local anesthetic. She used a topical anesthetic first. Then waited after the first injection to take effect before proceeding with the other injections. It made a huge difference it what is the most painful part of the process. I would not hesitate to recommend this office based on my outstanding experience. read more

Office looks nice. Charges were not as laid out in my treatment plan, I was told $28 for my second appointment but then charged $129, the treatment plan was only a week old, it was supposed to be valid for 3 months (plus, 6 cavities? I've never had a cavity and suddenly 6), furthermore, my insurance company was charged 3x the amount I was quoted and additional charges for services not performed. My filling is not formed correctly and causes incorrect closure, my dentist stated that the pain was normal and did not look at the tooth, 2 months on my tooth is still in pain. I purchased zoom teeth whitening through Groupon and when I called to schedule an appointment, I could only pick 10am weekday slots. None of Fridays were available and none of late afternoon times were available either. Not to mention I was told they don't do teeth whitening on Saturdays. The receptionist tried to act like she was looking for availability at first but later she told me they only do teeth whitening at 10am. It's like they put something on Groupon to lure patients in and yet they make it extremely inconvenient for people to actually come in! Aren't most people at work on weekdays by 10am???? I cannot believe I have to take a couple of hours off from work to get teeth whitening done. I am already frustrated and totally turned off by this. Took my mom here for dental work. She was in pain & needed work quickly. Front desk staff were not very pleasant to deal with. The lady who took care of payment was very condescending. I had purchase a DentalPlan Program for my mom because she doesn't have any dental insurance. Needless to say, we didn't pay the regular dental price, but the plan price for her procedures. They seemed to look down on us because we were using that plan. The doctor was alright. He wasn't rough or anything. He did the procedure like any other dentist would. Nothing special. Felt kinda rushed to get the work done quickly, though. He did take care of her pain, so I'm giving one extra star. I would not come back here again. The dentists are OK, but the whole experience was just very unpleasant. Didn't make you feel welcome. Doctors were just OK. On another experience. My father also made an appointment to see the doctors at this office. His appointment was at 2pm. He arrived at 1:30pm. They made him wait for TWO HOURS!!!!! How ridiculous was that? He's old fashioned so he stayed till they called him. He didn't leave. They called the previous day before his appointment to confirm & they told him, if you come late or no show, we'll charge you $300!!!! Who does that! They take advantage of seniors. Untrustworthy, and don't know what their doing. I purchased a $189 Groupon ($399 value) for ZOOM teeth whitening for which there were no disclaimers/qualfiers other than the stated value. When I scheduled my appointment, they were very pleasant but said some things that raised some concern. They mentioned they were going to do 1 20-minute treatment, but throw in a bonus of one additional 20 minutes for me. I had researched ZOOM previously but went back to the their website to reread things. They clearly state the standard process includes detailed prep, 3 15-minute sessions, and 2 take home, custom dental trays. I called the next day to inquire about these discrepancies. They said it was a mistake, but the woman I spoke with could not answer any questions. I was told the Manager, Isabel, would would be in at 8 AM the next day, and I requested she call me first thing. I called her at 10:15. She apologized, saying the discrepancies were not their fault. She described the $399 treatment included 3 15-minute sessions and a bonus of the trays. I told her the Groupon was valued at $399, so I expected the services to align with that, and what they were presenting was false advertising. Again, a mistake and not their fault. I asked her if she would be willing to provide the standard procedure at the Groupon price. She replied that she would talk to the owner and get back to me. She called moments later and verified that they would be willing to do the 3 sessions but not the trays, and that the trays were an additional $150. (Really?) Regardless of the lack of trays, I accepted their offer. I received a call 10 minutes later from Arlington Dental telling me that they would not be providing the service but instead refunding my money. I was told Isabel had not spoken with the owner (Then why did she present her counter offer?) We got Isabel on line and she again apologized "It's not our fault." In the end they were not willing to stand behind the agreement that we had just made. Repeat: Untrustworthy, and don't know what their doing. Don't go here. Had my family of 4 going here a little over a year. My kids are in their teens and we've been to other dentists in different areas with moves and all. Never have we been to a dentist that intentionally looks for cavities and makes sure they do some kind of work after every check up. We brush our teeth and floss! It felt like it was about the money they can make from us and claims they can put in. unbelievable! They pulled my daughters tooth without needing too, and i have been worried about her other teeth moving making it now a braces issue, which they quickly advise their orthodontist to you for consult. They said she at age 12 needed braces....$5400. Her teeth are near perfect, not crooked.....i got a second opinion on her teeth, and they said it's not needed yet because not all her baby teeth are in. So don't waste money and time. Don't go here. And when you try and talk to them they don't listen they cut you off, and try and give you another consult again and try and sell you more services. Don't do it. Email reminders i received twice have been named wrong! I am Kelly and i got Michelle! Who is michelle? I love the dentist, love the front office staff, and the owner is on site every time I went in. However, I have Blue Cross as Primary and MET Life as secondary and they want their money up front even after verifying both primary and secondary coverage which covered 90-50% of the total charges. If it was not for their billing up-front inconsistent policy I would continue being with them. However, no reasonable business that is insurance based would expect full money up front from good clients with a history of paying their co-pay. Great dentist, just bring your wallet, and spin the wheel on what the billing practice will be that day. read more

Just a General Cleaning gone bad :( I went for a general cleaning, had one cavity since I had enough time to get back to work so I say why not do the filling. Dentist started drilling one but then said there is cavity in another one but wait "it touched the root" of course "Root Canal" Lady comes out with almost more than $900 estimate & there I was sitting in "hot chair" with big hole. I almost had heart attack, I was basically trapped. Had to run out with filling "will deal with the pain later" Don't think I am going back here for the root canal or even a general cleaning. Had to take a day off to go home afterwards beacause I was not expecting that something you read or hear could happen to you :( read more

The doctors know what they are doing. They talk to you and care about you. You will not feel like a "number" here. The office staff know what they are knowledgeable on billing. They sometimes do not let you know about wait time though, but that is okay. The office is clean and parking is abundant. They provide water in the waiting room. I get in and out quickly. Today was my first time coming to Chantilly Dental Center. The office looked very nice and clean, and the front desk staff was very friendly. Dr. Duy Vu was my dentist, and did a superb job on my dental exam. He explained everything to me very clearly about the health of my teeth, and how to keep it healthy without making me feel like a child being lectured by a mother. Also, he was very honest about everything, and didn't do extra procedures that I didn't need that would cause extra charges to my insurance and out-of-pocket expenses. I have Anthem BCBS, and walked out of the office with out paying a penny. I would give the place 5 stars if only the scheduling went a little more smoothly. I took my 6 year old daughter in there for a routine cleaning and checkup. After the initial cleaning and x-rays were done, they told me that she had three cavities that needed to be filled and that it would cost ohhh around $380.00. I of course wanted to get a second opinion. So I made her an appointment at her old dentist (out of town since we relocated to Fairfax). Well, my daughter had three different dentist tell me that she had absolutely ZERO cavities, to the contrary her teeth were beautifully maintained. Furthermore, they informed me that this is the "newest way" some dental practices are making more money. They inform parents that there precious little children have cavities, place a little sealer on the tooth, and then wham bam your out a couple hundred bucks. I will never return to this dental office nor send any friends or family their way! I would rather pay the gas to take her to a trustworthy practice. read more

I've been a patient here for one year, and that will mark the end of my time as a patient. Went in for my bi-annual checkup this weekend. The Dentist immediately zeroed in on one tooth and starting running tests on it and took pictures of it. He told me that the one of the cusps on the tooth was fractured and had fallen off and that I was lucky it hadn't damaged the root. He said I should get a crown. I was somewhat suspicious as there was no pain so I got a second opinion from a different dentist. This dentist took 5 pictures from different angles and clearly showed that there was NO fracture at all. The Dentist at Chantilly lied about the condition of my teeth in order to get me to pay for a procedure. Avoid them at all costs. I am likely filing a claim with the BBB about their shady tactics. read more

I would give this a negative star if I could. I have been looking for a new dental facility for myself and my children and found Chantilly Dental Center on groupon. I wanted a whitening treatment and other dental work as well as orthodontic care for my children. The Front desk staff, Ramonica and Isabelle were extremely rude and refused to make an appointment for us because I did not have a second phone number to provide. Neither one of them would help me, told me this was the owner Dr, Diem Nugyens decision and that new patients would not be accepted without 2 telephone numbers. They asked repeatedly for a friend or relatives number which should not be necessary. It felt like they do not want groupon clients and were wanting extra phone numbers in order to call and harass for new business. When I asked to speak with the owner Dr. Diem Nugyen I was told she was not in the office and only came in when she had special clients. They would not give me a time when I could reach her regarding my concerns. I am glad I was treated this way before actually going in for an appointment or purchasing the offer. I can only imagine the how the service is in person and certainly will not take my thousands of dollars any where close! read more
