She was an older white woman with short hair. When my sister and I walked in, she didn't greet us. Instead, she looked us up and down and walked away. We immediately felt disrespected, but we decided to continue browsing and see what the store had to offer. After a while, one of the other employees did eventually ask how I was doing, which I appreciated. However, the initial interaction really left a lasting impression. I had heard other women of color share similar experiences at this store, which was actually one of the reasons it took me so long to shop here in the first place. Unfortunately, my experience seemed to confirm the concerns I had heard from others. It's disappointing because the store itself is beautiful and has such a great selection, but the way we were treated made the experience uncomfortable and unwelcoming.

Few of the longtime employees remaining truly understand what has made Clothes Horse a Dallas institution. They greet customers, offer assistance, acknowledge people when they enter, and create the kind of upscale shopping experience that keeps customers returning to this gem of a store. Unfortunately, some of the newer employees don't seem to share that same customer-service mindset. The atmosphere feels different, and some of the attention to customers that once set the store apart appears to be fading. With that said, my loyalty to Clotheshorse runs deep, and I continue to have great respect for the manager and the few longtime sales associates. I'm hopeful that the store can recapture the level of service that made it so special for so many years. I'll keep giving it another chance because Clotheshorse has been one of my favorite Dallas shopping destinations for a very long time.

I was greeted politely and directed around the corner to the back, where the appraiser is located. That day, my interaction with that lady was uncomfortable. She had a condescending tone and a bad attitude. She even said one of my items was "jacked" and refused to take it. Overall, it felt like my presence was an inconvenience for her. Against my better judgment, I let her take the other items. Fast-forward about a week, and I decided to pay a small fee to retrieve my items from the store. Once again, I was promptly and warmly greeted by the store staff, who directed me to the appraiser again. It was the same appraiser that was present previously. Again, my presence is an inconvenience to her. I tell her why I'm there, and she tells me to go to the store portion. I tell her they directed me back here, so she calls the store staff via her phone and refers to me as a "little girl." I went back to the store portion and the same staff apologized for the miscommunication, and began helping me retrieve the items I had previously agreed to consign. The remainder of my interaction with her was very pleasant. It is quite disheartening writing a review like this, considering my only reason for doing so was the negative experiences I had with a single person.

The store itself has a nice selection of home goods as well as women's clothing and accessories. Some of their clothing is on the more expensive side, but in the back area they have a large selection of discounted items. The staff was very welcoming and super helpful. They were able to help me find everything I was looking for and even answer some of my questions about the best way to take care of my new pieces. Now, when I go to shop, she calls me by name and starts pulling things off the rack to show me. She's persuaded me to try on things I would never have chosen myself, but they look good. They really seem to enjoy working there and they know where everything is. It's best to go when you have time to really look. It's a big warehouse and you don't want to miss out. No men or children are allowed at the sale. The dressing room is one big room with mirrors and racks for your clothes. It works fine. People are very respectful. I really love this sale. I go every chance I can. It seems like they have 4, maybe 6 sales a year. There is one man that is outside the door who is very kind. He helps with parking and I've seen him helping women with their packages. Thank you all who make this warehouse sale possible. It feels really good to get quality clothes at such a great price!

I just found out they have another one coming up near the end of July so I had to Yelp it -look them up on Facebook for dates (their website doesn't list dates). Two WARNINGS: Get there EARLY because there is always an extremely LONG line and these women waiting mean business (always lots of pushing, too). Secondly there are no private dressing rooms for trying things on, so be prepared -just one big open area. (It's so worth it, though) No men are allowed in the building.
