from the moment you call to the moment you step foot through the door of that shop, you'll feel like you're in good hands. I did so much research before booking an appointment with Jen because I specifically wanted to get my nipples pierced. I wanted to go to someone with experience and all the reviews online pointed to Jen! getting an appointment was not difficult, you can book online. paperwork must be completed prior to your appointment. when you first arrive, you need to text the number on the door before they let you in. once you are inside, they'll confirm your piercing of choice with you and then Jen pops out of nowhere and takes you into a room! she let me start off with any questions I had and boy, did I have a lot. I had gone down an internet rabbit hole and I knew I needed to speak to an actual professional before the piercing. Jen is a saint with the patience of an angel. she showed me a few photos and helped me figure out if I wanted a vertical or horizontal nipple piercing. she will make sure everything is consensual prior to doing it. I got to pick out my jewelry prior to the piercing and she sanitized the jewelry in the room. now, I knew I went with the right piercer when Jen took her sweet, sweet time marking my nipples. not only did she take her time, she made sure it was even and looked good. I was so impressed with her ability to eyeball a nipple and to get it centered. Jen will mark your nipples a few dozen times, but you want that because the last thing you want is a freaking lopsided piercing so trust the process! when we started the actual process of piercing, she went through how she was going to pierce it and had me take a deep breath to help with the nerves. a nipple piercing seriously hits a little differently than a piercing on your ear. the pain didn't last very long and Jen asked if I needed additional time before piercing my other nipple....which I declined because I really just wanted it done after the piercings, she had me lay there for a bit before sitting up. I know getting up too fast can make some people light headed especially after a piercing and she explained, it can happen especially when the blood flow is redirected after a procedure like so. she went over healing, what to do and what not to do after the piercing and cleaning with me. all in all, Brilliance Piercing is highly recommended. I truly can't thank Jen enough for dealing with my hundreds of questions, making sure my piercings would look good, making sure I was comfortable every step of the way and most of all for just being one of the best professional piercers I have ever encountered. if you're interested in piercing your body in anyway, I cannot recommend Jen enough. she only works two days a week now so for me to snag a 4:50 PM appointment on a Thursday with her was a blessing. also big shout out to Keightley and Elizabeth for their fantastic customer service. they answered all my questions and were super patient with me as well! read more

I initially came here to get my ears repierced after they closed up during my postpartum period. I swallowed the high price tag expecting premium service, but their customer service is completely rigid and lacking any basic empathy. Be prepared to spend hundreds of dollars once you factor in the premium jewelry they require you to purchase. Their piercing appointments are scheduled for an hour, yet the actual piercing only takes about 5-10 minutes. A significant portion of the appointment is spent discussing and selling jewelry. The real problem came with the follow-up downsizing appointment. After they emailed me to schedule it, the earliest availability was about a month out. As a new mom coordinating childcare for a baby and making a 40-minute drive through NoVA traffic is not easy. The downsizing appointment itself is only scheduled for 20 minutes, which made what happened next even more frustrating. Unfortunately, there was a lot of traffic on a Saturday and I arrived 12 minutes late. When I got there, a front desk lady met me at the door and refused to let me in. My appointment was canceled on the spot because I hadn't called or texted to say I was running late. I was driving and not checking my phone, which apparently didn't matter. There was no flexibility, no understanding, and no sympathy whatsoever for any circumstances. I was told another client was waiting in their car. So after waiting a month for an appointment, arranging my schedule around a baby, and driving 40 minutes, I left without receiving any service at all. Their policies may be their policies, but customer service matters too. The experience felt cold, inflexible, and completely dismissive. Given how much time is built into their appointments and how heavily they emphasize jewelry sales, I was surprised there was absolutely no flexibility for a customer who was a little late due to traffic. There are plenty of piercing studios out there, and after this experience, I would absolutely not waste time here. The prices are already high, and the lack of consideration for customers and new moms made me feel like a lesser person. read more

I got a helix piercing on both ears as redo from a previously botched job. I'm really happy to have found them because they actually educated me on piercing care, proper piercing process, etc. it was taking my piercings so long to heal, and I found out that they were pierced at an angle and weren't really going to heal. So I had to let them heal before I could get it done right. I had mostly had Jen do the piercings and the downsizing when it came time. She always gave feedback and was very patient with my questions as well. Tobias was the last person I saw for what was supposed to be a last downsize before I'm set until they heal, but they recommended I stick with the current post. So I actually didn't have to have anything else done. Now, I'm just waiting for my helixes to heal! Here are some more information that may help you determine if Brilliance Piercing is the studio for your piercing needs: they require appointments for any type of service (no drop-ins/walk-ins); they only work with jewelry they have for sale (I believe this is to ensure that the quality of the jewelry is top-notch and they know exactly the metal content - optimal healing conditions); when you have an appointment, you can't bring anyone with you; their jewelry are quite pricey, but not much more than other studios around. Their team is always upbeat, friendly, patient and knowledgeable: they will answer any question you may have and also always ensure you are aware of anything important regarding your piercing after care, etc. They have a wide selection of jewelry appropriate for whatever piercing you're getting! Tobias did an amazing job with my new faith piercing! I had one on the other ear taken out from a different piercer, and had the other ear done here. It was a completely different experience! I was in the other shop for 5 minutes and this one took the whole hour! Everything was explained in depth, the tools/earring were sanitized while I was there, and care was taken with each step! It was a bit hard to find bc if you have AT&T, your phone won't work in the vicinity. So I had to recall what the suite number was from my iPhone calendar. They don't have a bit sign but I posted a pic of their front door. Make sure you're not early or late bc you'll be greeted right on time. Text the number on their door to check in. The shop is very clean and organized. Very professional staff. I think my piercer was named Valerie. She was very precise, detail oriented with great bedside manners. She didn't rush me and was very patient while I picked out the jewelry for purchase. Valerie pierced my forward helix and then changed my tragus piercing for me. Their APP certificates are posted on the wall- it's absolutely crucial you go to a place that has APP certified piercers if you want to have your piercing safely done. I've had one too many bad experiences and learned my lesson. My total cost came out to approx $470 or so- two earrings and the piercing/changing costs. Always a great experience! Parking is cozy but you can find plenty of spaces around the establishment easy. Staff is friendly and is growing! When I first started coming to brilliance 5 years ago it was just Jen (the owner) and one person at the reception, but I just went in and now their is an abundant team present which is amazing! As for the experience it's a mixed bag, but it's definitely worth the struggles and everything in between. -Everything is appointment based which has been my biggest frustration only due to the lack in availability which is something I've personally shared with them on multiple occasions. It's frustrating, but it's for your & their safety around health which is respectable. -A wide selection of jewelry, but if you're particular on material and gems, make sure you're asking what they are; you might be thinking you're buying a diamond, but can very much so be cubic zirconia at a high price. -You're valued as a customer. I visit maybe once or twice a year, but Jen (the owner) remembers every detail about you. She remembers I like bigger jewelry, she remembers where I work, and she remembers my preferred pronouns. -Amazing team, I've only had Jen do 8 of my 9 piercings, but this last time I've had Valerie do my 9th. They were amazing, very careful, would make strong recommendations, but never pushed you to make a decision, and they were very friendly! I have been to Brilliance Piercing more than a few times over the years. I've taken my daughter there to have her ears pierced and I've gone for jewelry changes. This past month I stopped by to replace an earring and the door was locked with a sign on the door stating that they are by appointment only. I texted and was told if I wanted to purchase, it needed to be done online. Unfortunately, that does not work for me because I need to both chose a replacement and have someone do the actual replacement. Whoever responded by text was dismissive and boarding on rude. When I considered making an appointment, there were none available for months. Not to mention the hoops you have to jump through to try to make an appointment. They have more disclaimers and waivers than a surgeon. Even though their service has been all over the place, I wanted to stick with a place I know, that's in my neighborhood, and that I'm already familiar with. That being said, I will have to go elsewhere. It is baffling to me how they operate a business with so little professionalism. It is as though potential customers are a bother to them. They behave as though they are not in the service industry and that the service they provide is in such demand that they can behave unprofessionally, be dismissive, unavailable, and when available, rude- to the point of condescension. Clearly, they have enough business to continue to operate in such a manner. However, just because they can does not mean they should. Oh my gosh where do I even start with how amazing this place is. I got my 14 & 15th piercing with Brilliance and I can't believe I trusted other UNPROFESSIONAL people to pierce me previously. Let's dive in to the good good: - First, you have to book an appointment. It can take 8-9 weeks to get an opening so the wait does suck but I cannot blame them at all for maintaining a safe practice for all this time. I felt super super safe being the only appointment in my hour time. - My biggest issue coming in was I felt like my previous jewelry wasn't cohesive. My ear had jewelry that was all over the place that didn't fit in the right places. Jen was AMAZING because I let her do her creative thing so she chose all my jewelry and the order they would go in to look GREAT!! Never had such a high end experience for someone to cater to my ear so wonderfully. I felt like this experience alone was 10/10. - Another amazing thing was Tobias, my piercer. He noticed my previous piercer messed up on my 2nd lobe piercing and did it too low.. but made it into an opportunity to pierce on top and I loooove it!! He took a mistake and turned it into something beautiful. ALSO. I ALWAYS ALWAYS HAD INFECTED EARS after going to places like a mall stand *cough* but tell me why both my piercings he did NEVER GOT INFECTED!! It's been 3 months, healing has been AMAZING. I had my ears pierced for awhile until about two years ago when they got infected, and I decided my safest bet would be to let my holes close up. For awhile after that, I was too afraid (it's true, haha) to get them pierced again. Finally, more recently, I did my research on piercing studios and this was one of only a few that does only piercings in the area. I was impressed with their reviews, website, service offerings, and jewelry stock, so I set my alarm for the first of the month (the studio is appointment only and they book up fast!) to book my own appointment at my earliest convenience. I was running late to my appointment after taking a couple wrong turns, but I gave them a heads up and they were still able to accommodate me - phew! Brilliance Piercing is still taking strict COVID precautions, wearing masks and mandating customers to wear masks. They also aren't doing any piercings that would require you to remove your mask. All of their policies and procedures are very clearly laid out on their website, and communicated to you via email before your appointment. I got my piercing done by Valerie. From the beginning, they helped me select a pair of earrings. They did not push me to purchase more expensive earrings; rather, they helped guide me to select a pair based on what I was looking for. The studio is set up like a modern looking doctor's office, almost. Everything is super clean and sanitary, which was super important to me when looking for a piercing studio. I was taken to my room where I laid down and Valerie took a look at my old piercings. They told me that they were going to triple check and make sure my old holes weren't still open - well, they were! So, rather than poke new holes, Valerie was able to salvage my old ones and save me extra pain and a lot of money. I was super pleased! I also don't have to spend as much time healing, since I did not get new piercings. If you are looking for a piercer, stop your search. I've been to many piercing studios and Brilliance is in a class above the rest. To start - the studio is immaculately clean! They have private rooms with doors that they close during your appointment (a piercing shop that I'd been to previously only had a thin sheer curtain separating us from the lobby.) I went yesterday for a multiple piercing appointment. I had an idea of what I wanted and had been debating for years on whether or not I should pull the trigger. My friends who all have multiple piercings told me to find a place I would want to go back to repeatedly and they all love their studios so that was the benchmark I was looking for. I made the right choice in coming here. Everyone was SO friendly and helpful, they sent paperwork a day ahead which made the check in process go so quickly and smoothly. Elizabeth got me set up looking at jewelry and Jen came over with what I would be able to handle since it was my first cartilage piercings which I appreciated. It was all about what was best for me since I had gone in wanting three piercings - so they made "less money" on me for only 2 piercings but it was better for me and the healing process. Picking out jewelry was as much of a breeze as it could be with so many great options from different brands (check out their website it makes things a bit easier also bring pictures if you have an idea) and they look at placement for each piercing. They only use their jewelry which for me is honestly a plus since they know exactly where it came from - get ready to drop some $$ but that should be expected when making a permanent change to your body. When it came to the actual piercing - Jen was absolutely amazing, walked me through every step, what she was going to do (for someone who has a fear of needles I do some silly things) and made the process as painless as it could be. I love both of my new helix piercings and cannot wait to go back to see everyone again. About a month and a half ago I got my lobes re-pierced by Jen. I decided what the heck- I wanted to get my second lobe piercings re-done last week. I booked an appointment online and it was just as easy as the first time. Came in, picked out my jewelry, and filled out the paperwork. Jen remembered me and was happy that I had returned so soon (I had said that I might be back to re-pierce the rest of the holes that closed up on my ears). I learned that my ears are not symmetrical. Like, not even a little, tiny bit. And now when I look in the mirror I can't unsee it and don't know how I never noticed before. But Jen noticed that my old piercings were uneven, so she was meticulous and patient while marking, remarking, measuring, and putting the final marks on my ears. I truly appreciate it, because if she had just re-pierced where the old holes were, it would have been fine- if you were just looking at each ear separately- but when you actually look at the whole face, it would have come off looking uneven and wonky. I have super sensitive skin so the jewelry and techniques have to be top notch (no claires or mall piercers for me--titanium is a must). The location in Vienna is convenient (just off the main road) and parking is plentiful. I arrived and although someone else was already being helped I was greeted immediately by Jen the shop owner. Mind you although I've been to many piercing places this was the first time I had to bring my daughter (an infant) with me. I had checked the website and instagram page in advance and perceived it was a clean open space. I was not disappointed. I parked my stroller to the side, bust out the bottle of milk, sat on that beautiful blue couch and read the Brilliance Piercing 2017 look book to my daughter. Jewelry selection-- HUGE. I had a faux snug piercing that was acting up (user error-- chlorine and new piercings don't mix) and I hit her up on the @brilliancepiercing instagram page and she said come on in! Please note I hadn't seen Jen in over a year. I came, she recognized me, let me heat up my daughters milk in her kitchen area and took care of my piercings, upgraded them, cleaned out the affected areas and consulted on the ear project I have going on. That's whats the greatest about Jen-- shes not just going to take your money and poke a well placed hole in you. She learns your personality and helps you build your aesthetic. If you're going to withstand the discomfort of a piercing you should probably do it in a super comfortable and clean atmosphere with an expert. If you're looking for that personalized boutique piercing studio experience (think Maria Tash, Body Electric Tattoo), Brilliance Piercing is the best place to go to in the DMV area. As all the other reviews have stated, the shop is very clean and Jen (and her entire team) are top notch professionals, but what sets them apart from other tattoo/piercing shops is the overall experience you receive. Here they really understand the concept of blending fashion and your piercing(s) to "style" your ear(s), think ear constellations, curated ear, ear curation. Their jewelry inventory is amazing with high quality, dainty, minimal gold selections from well known companies like BVLA but also from smaller indie companies like Pupil Hall. There is something for everyone from price to design. They offer great, sincere advice without being pushy or judgmental. It's like having a team of stylists for your ear(s)! I think their prices are very reasonable and fair (maybe even lower) than a lot of other tattoo/piercing shops in the area. Their online appointment system is super convenient (tip: check back regularly for last minute cancellation slots) and their location is in a nice quiet office park with plenty of free parking outside the studio. I just started with my left ear (conch, front helix, tragus) and will be going back to finish up my left ear and then hoping to move onto my right ear. I never thought I'd say this, but I had a great time piercing my ears here at Brilliance. Yes the price is a bit higher than what I would've liked, but the quality of service was GREAT. The person at the front helped me pick my earring design and Jen who pierced my ears was AWESOME. She made me feel super comfy and helped calm my nerves as it was my first time piercing my ears since my first lobe piercing from 4th grade. I am writing this to make a complaint about one of your staff. I believe her name is Rachel. She had a terrible, stuck up, hostile attitude, extremely unfriendly. Before explaining about my experience, I would like to suggest that you should allow customers to come in beforehand to choose their jewelry. It is unheard of that you only get a certain amount of time to choose jewelry and get a piercing done. You have a big selection and I am an indecisive buyer and i like to take my time choosing. Especially since i cannot take it off for 6 months after the piercing!! So, regarding my complaint , I was asking your employee Rachel about different studs for my lobe piercing while feeling her horrible attitude the entire time, i could feel her attitude even under her mask . I tried to get the case of earrings close to me and she said ''dont touch'' in a mean manner. You can say dont touch, but there is a nice polite way to say it. Then WHAT REALLY ticked me off , a beautiful multi stud earing caught my eye which was larger than the small ones i was looking at, so i asked about that. She looked at me as if i was crazy.. she kept on saying ''that one ? that one? really that one?? '' and then she looked at her colleague Jen, who is absolutely the kindest & sweetest btw, and said " I dont know whats going on here" as if to say im insane or something!!!. At that moment i was seriously contemplating walking out and not going ahead with my piercing. This is Not how you treat customers! If she doesn't know how to treat customers with utmost respect and friendliness , she shouldn't be working in a respectable store like this. To add to that, the whole piercing is a scary, intimidating experince for many. Customers are usually nervous. You are suppose to have a warm welcoming environment to put clients at ease. Instead i felt a toxic, negative energy and space which made me even more nervous and i couldnt wait to get it over with and leave! Whats even more unfortunate is that you have a nice collection of jewelry and i adore diamonds, and i actually really wanted to come back and purchase a few, and bring my friends who have multiple piercings.. Unfortunately that wont be happening as i will not be returning. World renowned, jewelers like Maria Tash in NEW York, have such a welcoming kind environment, that really puts a customer at ease and takes away the fear and nervousness. This is New York! who are known for their snobiness. instead they were the sweetest any one can be. Further, my piercer Tobias was friendly, good mannered, very professional and attentive. However, when you're talking to a client and want to instruct them to do something , you can say it once and let it go. They had told me not to touch the mirror as it will smudge.. They see me approach the mirror the first time and I was 2 feet away, no contact what so ever. After adjusting the 2nd ear. i approach the mirror again to check the new location and he gives me the same instruction not to touch the mirror again. At this point i am truly frustrated and just want to get the hell out of there. I am a Respected Dentist Not a 3 year old child. I didnt touch it the first time, I am not going to touch it the 2nd time. Repeating the instruction is Unnecessary. ( and to be honest, the instruction in the 1st place is unpleasant and unnecessary .. so what if a client smudges a mirror. you can get windex and clean it.. ) This is the differance between a good business that attracts clients from one that repels them away. Clearly customer service is not the priority here. Its unfortunate that the entire experience felt like i was in a Military like , toxic, Negative setting and i can safely say i will never return nor recommend this place to anyone. read more

I cannot say enough great words about this shop. I am on a mission to deck out my ears in piercings but am not knowledgeable on the topic at all. I had recently gotten 5 piercings (literally a month ago) and figured since they stopped being sore I could go for my second round. Totally misinformed. Tobias was my piercer and they immediately told me they wouldn't recommend it since I had piercings that were still actively healing. Talk about integrity! They were still able to switch out the backs of my new piercings, the entire time they were letting me know what was going on, what I could expect, and they were a wealth of information. All of the team members I met up front were so lovely too. Cannot recommend this place more, I also can't wait to go back! read more

Might go off on a tangent but here we go, i came to this store months ago to take out a daith piercing gone wrong , by patriots In fairfax . Two or three days after I was struck with severe jaw pain that left me sleepless and excruciating pain. The piercer here, Jen looked at it and took it out for me. She told me they had done it too deep and might have hit a nerve ... Fast forward months later i came back, I lost the ball to a CBr And needed a replacement as well as I wanted to retry that botched piercing from before . Upon arrival for my appointment I was shown trays of different colored rings and hoops. I opted for a simple opal ring since it was a little different than the plain stuff you see everyday . Was taken back quickly , mesmerized by the fancy sterilizer machine .. everything was cleaned properly and gloves changed when needed . Piercing was marked and procedure was explained, just a pinch! Everything was quick and simple. I was asked two or three times if I was good and looked in the mirror, paid and left . Great experience and glad I waited for the appointment time, will return for more in the future . So far I haven't even felt any pain from the aftermath, knock on wood! The jewelry selection is huge! Wish I could afford things with diamonds .. one day! Thank you so so much read more

I am SO happy to have found Jen at Brilliance Piercing. I brought my daughter to have her ears pierced and she made it such a pleasant experience. The studio was clean, bright and beautifully decorated to feel like a spa. There was a big selection of beautiful mid to high end body jewelry and we took quite awhile to make our selections but weren't made to feel rushed at all. My daughter had asked me to do something along with her so I was pretty sure I was going in for a helix piercing, but secretly I had been admiring daith piercings on Instagram so I surprised myself by ending up with that one instead. Jen listened to me very patiently as I talked thru my decision, and she didn't pressure me either way except to say that I did have great ear anatomy for daith if that's what I wanted. My daughter didn't even wince, and for me, I was super afraid as this daith piercing was my first cartilage piercing. But I hardly felt a thing and it has been healing very nicely. Jen was quick and made the experience super easy. I will be going back again with my other daughter and I'm sure I'll be getting more done for myself in the future! I had the absolute best experience. Jen was my piercer and she made the entire process from beginning to end seamless, comfortable, and even fun. She did such a great job that I barely even felt any discomfort. I had a helix and a forward helix piercing. I will most certainly come again in the future.
