I was in the mood for some Indian comfort food and a quick search resulted in Brij Mohan so I decided to check it out. Here's my take on the experience: Quality of food: Good. I started out with Bhel Poori that comes with salty rice crispy mix with onions, tomatoes, green peppers topped with some tangy tamarind sauce. The Bhel Poori was perfectly crispy and enough to share with two people. For the entree, I got the Choley Bhature that came with chickpea curry served with two sourdough deep-fried breads with a side of onion salad. The chickpea curry was nice and hot and full of flavor. The Bhature were beautifully puffed and crispy. For drink I tried their mango lassi which was fresh and very satisfying. I didn't get to try any of the sweets as I was too full but they looked amazing. Décor: kinda meh. There isn't much decoration here but I think the food here makes up for it. Cleanliness: good. The tables were being kept clean. Service: good. You order at the counter and are given a buzzer that goes off when the food is ready. Price: reasonable. Friends of ours recommended this place so we stopped in for lunch. It's not a fancy place, especially from the outside. However, it's really good Indian food. And they are known for their sweet deserts. You order at the counter and you'll get a buzzer. When it buzzes it's time to go back to the counter & get your meal. We started with vegetable pakora. It came with 2 sauces, we both liked the red sweet sauce best. It was really good! Next I had Matar mushroom, and I asked for heat level 4 (out of 6.) it was served with rice on paper plates (with plastic tableware.) Delhi food represented here! I grew up in Delhi and miss the true Delhi/Punjab taste of food in United States as most Indian restaurants in US have a South Indian alignment or Gujarati alignment. The sooji puris used in paani puri took me down a memory lane! The samosa also is made very Delhi style. The spices and flaky crust reminds me of the samosa I ate growing up made by a local halwai. Special mention for the sweets! They have a great rasmalai, ladoo, cham cham etc. Definitely would recommend the food. From a service perspective, it's a self serve restaurant. You stand in line and place your order, pay at the counter and they give you a buzzer which goes off when your food is ready. My girlfriend told me to try this when I told her I'd be in the Cincy area for work assignment. Nestled in a dumpy looking strip mall in Sharonville, Brij Mohan doesn't look much from the outside. It's when you see the parking lot full that you realize that it's popular. It's kind of interesting. Full vegetarian menu with prices like $10.99 for Malai Kofta, which is like 7-8 dollars cheaper than the Malai Kofta in Columbus. And good, if not better quality. Service is not there. You have to order, get a pager, and then pick your order. Water, napkins, plates, bowls are self serve. Oh yeah, all paper plates and plastic silverware. I hate, hate this. Seriously, just hire a couple dishwashers and get proper plates and silverware. Now to the food-- it's worth coming here. The food, nicely spiced, and plentiful. It's just quality Punjabi food by Punjabi food. You can't beat the price. And the samosas? Bomb. Don't go home without taking some samosas to go. Come here... weep inside for the paper and plastic but enjoy this food. Ambiance? Bare bones. I think it was "to go" for a while before dining in was back. I had seen some pictures indicating that the place was running takeout-only at some point, but was surprised that this was still the case even when I visited over two years after the first COVID lockdowns. I'm not sure why; it's not like any of the people here were wearing masks (nor would they need to), but I don't get why this place hasn't reopened. And it wasn't just that; they also didn't have any breads, which I would have hoped would be a highlight. The chickpeas I did end up getting were richly spiced and definitely worthwhile even without bread. The chai I got was not overly sweet and had a nice spice blend. I eyed the desserts, but for whatever reason I have not found many Indian desserts that I really like and I didn't get any here. Hard for me to say what's going on and a lot of businesses are struggling, but they didn't fulfill quite as many of my needs as I'd hoped. A very good vegetarian and sweets shop around Cincinnati. The place is not open for Dine-in (Google shows its open) so just be prepared. Coming to the food, Papdi chat was really good. Also Dahi Wada was very nice. They have a good selection of Indian chat items and you can't go wrong with any of them. I tried the Malai Kofta - which was nice. The koftas are cooked well and the gravy had a kick. Oh btw, they do not have any bread apart from Batura. The selection of sweets is good. Their kowa jamoon, which was my favorite. My friends and I shared the Papdi chat, Cholle Bhature and Paneer Makhani with Garlic naan. And it was really good! The right amount of spice, not very oily or creamy. I called ahead, but it didn't seem to matter as there was no easy way for people who called ahead to pick up their food, which defeated the point of calling in to save time. I highly recommend that they change their setup to allow people to place orders online or on the phone including payment. I've come here 3 times now as it's the go-to Indian spot for one of my friends that I meet up with for lunch, and perfect for the other one in our group who's a vegetarian and loves spicy food. Phenomenal food in a small storefront. Parking is at a premium and might but be hard to come by at peak hours. The space is lacking on ambiance, but the kitchen produces amazing flavors at very reasonable prices. When you walk in, you proceed to a large, cafeteria-like counter with a menu above. There are no descriptions but printed menus are available to peruse close up. The counter also holds more Indian sweets than I've ever seen. Many of the savory dishes will be familiar if you know Indian food. There are also several times of street food appetizers and snacks. We each had lunch combos and an order of vegetable samosas, which were HUGE! The food came on disposable plates but was phenomenal and plentiful. Of the many times we've been here, the most consistent and my personal favorite dish is the samosa chaat. I don't care much for their chole bhature or pakoras. The dahi puri that I ordered the last time was not really to my liking, the sauce was very thick. But, the gobi Manchurian is one of the best - it's crispy and savory despite not have a lot of sauce coating. Surprisingly, it comes with a side of rice. And the ras malai is divine! If you have a sweet tooth, it's a must try! It's mostly crowded during weekends. The location and interior are anything but fancy. But, the food is authentic and the people are nice. We went here on recommendation from couple of friends. Apparently it is one of the most famous spots to get Indian sweets. And we were not disappointed. They do have variety if fresh sweets on display. You can buy them per piece or by the pound. They also have a vegetarian Indian food and appetizer menu. We went with chhole bhature and mix veg pakoras. They were really good. We went here for dinner. Be careful on the turn for this place because it was a weird turn and took us some time to figure out entrance for parking in the nighttime while it was raining. Brij Mohan is serves wonderful food with big bold flavors. It is a no frills restaurant. You order at the counter and pay at the register and the staff brings the food out to you on disposable plates. The staff is very helpful and patient was customers who are unfamiliar with the cuisine. We always order the samosa chaaat (a smothered samosa) and dahi puri (a shell filled with chickpeas and covered with sauce). The yogurt on the dahi puri balances the pepper and tamarind. The Gobhi Manchurian (cauliflower) was a wonderful special this visit. The exterior was crisp and spicy and the interior was soft and mild. This is the best Indian food in the city, to put it in perspective I still think its the best despite the fact that there are no meat options its all vegetarian: I won't bother commenting on atmosphere or service because you essentially order at a counter and it is a hole in the wall Indian restaurant in sharonville that is not known for being a fine dining establishment. Wow. This place blew me away. I was shocked to see that the menu was completely vegetarian, but I know this is common for many Indian places...just not the ones I've been to. We ordered the garlic naan, the onion naan, the gobhi matar, and the bhindi masala. The naans were AMAZING. I was amazed at how they chopped up the onions and garlic and sandwiched them inside the naan. They were crisp, hot, and paired perfectly with the food. My husband and I stopped in for lunch today, after not having eaten here in a couple of years. It's a vegetarian Indian restaurant - so if you're craving meat then this isn't the place for you. From what I could see, it looks like they are expanding into the space next to them. It's a small place that gets very busy during lunch so the expansion is needed. When you walk in you go to the counter, order your meals and drinks, pay at the register and are given a table number. Then the food is brought out when it's ready. We ordered an appetizer of Mixed Vegetable Pakora. We both ordered a lunch combo. The lunch combo is an entree, rice, naan and salad for $7.99. My husband ordered the Curry Kofta with plain naan and I ordered the Saag Aloo with garlic naan. You're given a spice level choice of 1-6. I ordered a 3 and my husband ordered a 6. We both ordered a Thums Up cola. We never order soft drinks when we dine out but hadn't had a Thums Up in years. The drinks and pakoras came to the table first. The Thums up was warm. Not even slightly cold, but completely warm. It had a weird after taste as well and I did not drink much of it. And $2.49 for a 10.5 oz can of soda?! That's outrageously over-priced. We did not know the price of it until after we paid. The pakoras were ok but not great. You get a lot of food for the $7.99 lunch combo and we found that we should've skipped the pakoras. The salad is just spiced onions with a couple pieces of carrot. The salad was ok but we would've liked a few more veggies in it. Our meals, while tasting good, were wrongly spiced. My husband's was spiced on a 0. It should've been the hottest but had absolutely no heat. Mine on the other hand had the hottest level. I ordered a 3 (medium). I love spicy food but now have an ulcer so unfortunately I've had to tone down the spice level. Needless to say, I've been in pain after lunch. Over-all it was ok.
