First of all, there are surprisingly few programs that offer care for kids under 18 months, so I really appreciate that they have an infant class. Our daughter started at 12 months and is now 19 months, and she has learned so much and flourished at GCS in that short amount of time. The school has consistently been incredibly accommodating and flexible to our family's needs. The teachers are genuinely sweet, warm, and caring, and it's clear how much they love the kids. Zara, the director, is wonderful -- so kind, personable, and lovely to interact with, and it really makes a difference to feel that level of care and openness from leadership. Our daughter loves her teachers and is clearly absorbing so much from her environment. Mrs Rose, the lead of the Koala class, has been so great! Our daughter will come home acting out or trying to sing songs she learned at school, and it's obvious that what she experiences during the day really stays with her. She also looks up to the older kids in her class, and we've been told she's gentle with the younger ones -- which is so sweet to hear. She's getting stimulation, structure, and social development that we definitely couldn't have matched or replicated at home. GCS has given her such a strong foundation during a really important stage of her life. Another thing I really appreciate is how thoughtful they are around food. GCS was one of the only schools we found that would refrigerate and heat up lunches, which made it much easier and more pleasant to prepare good, healthy lunches every day. We've since switched to their lunch program though, which offers a rotating menu of daily home-cooked, nutritious food -- and our daughter LOVES it. She regularly finishes her portions and asks for seconds. Sometimes you can smell the food cooking during drop-off, and it smells amazing! We are unfortunately transitioning out for reasons unrelated to our experience here, and it's so so hard to leave. I'm really sad about it. We are going to miss GCS and the community so much, and we're incredibly grateful for the care, growth, and love they've given our daughter. This place is a gem!

From day one, we felt the love, care, and intention behind everything they do. This school provides a nurturing, safe, and genuinely loving environment. Safety is our top priority: the children are closely supervised, the environment is secure, and it's clear how deeply the staff cares about each child's well-being. The teachers are incredibly(!)--I can't stress it enough--patient and intentional, never taking a one-size-fits-all approach. Our daughter is seen and supported as an individual, with teachers taking the time to understand her needs and personality. A special thank you to Zara, whose calm and caring energy has made a huge difference in our daughter's growth. Another thing we really appreciate is the school's teaching philosophy. They blend Montessori methods with Piaget's critical thinking principles to create a child-led curriculum centered around what they call the 5 C's--critical thinking, communication, compassion, creativity, and collaboration. While academics are part of the program, what matters most to us is how our child is learning. She's already developing strong problem-solving skills, learning to communicate her emotions, work through challenges, and care for her friends--skills that will serve her far beyond the classroom. At just three years old, our daughter knows her numbers and letters, speaks two languages, and is learning her third (Spanish). Based on my observations in person and via the school cameras that parents have access to, this is not a developmentally appropriate environment. This is a developmentally restrictive environment. Children are subject to sit in one spot and entertain themselves with one small item that is given to them by a staff member that fits in their hand without any teacher interaction. Children's hands are not being washed before meal times or sanitized. In some cases, perhaps only being sanitized instead of using soap and water while soap and water and sinks are readily available and accessible, subjecting children to harmful chemicals. Meal times are served without having water or milk present on the tables, or any napkins or utensils available on the table for children. Children's are not offered or allowed to have water or milk while they eat because as I was told by a teacher there they don't want children to fill up on water and milk and not eat, however you cannot withhold water from children. That is a violation. harmful cleaning chemicals are used to sanitize classrooms and children are then brought inside the classrooms, being exposed to the damaging lingering orders. Teacher engagement and interaction is very limited, during meal times or free play teachers do not engage with children instead they chat with one another. These were just a few of the things that I observed on site and via the school cameras.

Until the age of two, we were able to nurture his love of creativity through art, get him engaged in reading and music, and keep him active and independent while learning at home, but his social-emotional growth needed a community like Modern Schoolhouse to truly develop. We met another family at his favorite playground that had an AMAZING experience at Modern Schoolhouse and their daughter, who was academically gifted and raised with similar philosophies, was thriving under their care. We enrolled and discovered for ourselves that Modern Schoolhouse was indeed an absolute gem for child development. Our son entered after turning two, and he was very shy/reserved at the time. The talking, dancing, singing, bilingual artist that blew us away with his funny ideas and love of learning at home, needed help expressing himself in the larger group. Over the next several years, Leonardo was able to grow and thrive his ability to emotionally self-regulate, from having a 'safe space' at home to being able to identify what he was feeling and how to 'calm his body,' to listening to others and respecting common space. What we didn't anticipate was not just the top quality of the school, the clean aesthetic spaces, and the exceptional teachers (Teacher Alicia from class 3 was truly amazing!!), but also the like minded and kind community that became a key part of our son's social life. During our son's first years at home, we studied Montessori, Waldorf, and Reggio Emilia- instituting some principles of each in our approach at home. It wasn't until we met Sue and her philosophies at Modern Schoolhouse did we see some of these same philosophies embodied in an American child care setting; and we must have interviewed or toured at 5 or more local schools before finding Modern Schoolhouse. The core beliefs consist of the idea that children are competent, capable, curious individuals with hundreds of ways of self expression. The role of the school and family should be creating a structured, clean, and aesthetic environment that is conducive stimulating exploration and discovery. Teachers in this sense guide and foster collaboration rather than just 'delivering information.' Giving our son a new challenge was hard at first, but Sue and her staff were quick to offer suggestions and outside resources so we could reinforce some lessons at home, especially around his development of social/emotional skills like managing anger, dealing with disappointment, and learning to communicate when he needed space. He also was given the chance to learn how to build relationships and have positive interactions with new friends. Each 'season' and month had different themes that would be clearly delivered in monthly/quarterly emails along with chances to meet with teachers on child progress in key development areas of language, tracing, use of scissors, how to put on shoes/jackets, counting, class participation/listening, and emotional self expression. By class 3 (3 years old and above), our son was giving 'show and tell' presentations, using the 'sharing bee' to discuss their weekend, and playing inventive games to stimulate imagination and curiosity. Through the use of brightwheel, we were always shown photos and videos of our son having fun with friends and doing some fun activity. The school also offered many events at the school such as the "annual art show," "parent and me" day, and music sessions from Teacher Gaia culminating in a student led music performance (the cutest!). This year all the 4 classes made their own animal costumes and acted out various Disney themes. It was extraordinary to see him flourish and thrive under Teacher Alicia in class 3, who is truly remarkable for her ability to connect to kids and meet them where they are on the journey. By the end he was more confident in his presentations and even singing his favorite Disney songs Karaoke style to the class! Everything ended on a wonderful note with his graduation and small speech to parents and the graduating class. We were given an opportunity for a graduation photoshoot and his 'family book' with messages from all of the teachers as a keepsake that he created during his time there. As he graduated before many of the others in class 3, everyone created a special hand painted art for him with with the handprints of all his friends. It is bittersweet to go onto the next chapter, but he graduated school scoring high in every single metric of development, and he easily was interviewed and accepted into an international private school. He is truly thriving--emotionally, mentally, and intellectually. The curriculum at TMS is incredibly well thought out. Each activity clearly connects to the weekly or daily theme, and we've seen real growth in our son's development. He's starting to learn the alphabet and has become much more verbal since he began. What stands out even more is how happy our child is at TMS. Every photo we receive through the app shows him smiling, and we always feel confident dropping him off, knowing he's in caring and capable hands. The teachers, staff, and owner (Sue) are exceptional. Our son absolutely adores his teachers and lights up when we mention their names in the morning. Even though he's usually very attached to us, he was so excited to see his teacher at the Annual Art Show that he practically leaped from my arms to greet her. That kind of connection is exactly what every parent hopes for in a school: a place where your child feels loved and supported. On top of all this, the school is extremely clean. It was wonderful to see the children come together like one big family--greeting each other warmly and saying goodbye as a group. We truly enjoyed all the creative art projects Ms. Emma introduced to the classroom, along with her gentle approach. There was never any pressure or hostility if a child chose not to participate in an activity, just gentle support. My son was introduced to STEM activities and did creative projects like transforming the classroom into an entire farm or a market. It was so hard to move to Pre-K, however, Ms. Veronica helped him blossom academically and socially. She is truly incredible!! We have seen our son transform and grow. He now communicates and plays well with peers. He has shown tremendous progress in academics under Ms. Veronica's guidance. She provided us with daily updates good and bad. We celebrated milestones and achievements and worked on issues together. As a parent, you're kept informed of all activities. Every month a calendar is shared marking the daily activities. In Ms. Veronica's class, each week was focused on the letter of the week and all the activities were based on the letter. This was incredibly helpful as we would continue it at home. What immediately impressed us is RN's incredible Director, Ms. Rosalie. She always has the warmest smile and knows about every single child and what occurred during the day. I'm not sure how she does it, but she stays involved and extremely supportive of all families. Her attention and compassion is what makes RN so special. On top of that, she makes the most amazing banana and zucchini bread!! It is true that they say it takes a village and RN has become our village! All the teachers at RN are incredible. They are friendly and always there to help. The kids engage in so many different activities ranging from baking to sports. In terms of details, they have a great balance of outside and inside activities. Parents can choose to pack a lunch or order from their easy menu. Parents pack a snack and I found this most helpful because I could monitor what my child ate. We are so grateful to Robbin's Nest and would recommend it 10/10 for the care, growth, and confidence it brings to children and families alike.
