New River Gorge Bridge
Amy A.

Absolutely Amazing Experience! I did the Bridge Walk at the New River Gorge Bridge this past Sunday, and it was absolutely amazing! What an unforgettable experience walking beneath one of the most iconic bridges in the country -- 851 feet above the beautiful New River! Even though the catwalk is only about two feet wide, I felt completely safe the entire time. We were securely harnessed in, and safety was clearly the top priority from start to finish. Our guide, Larry, was phenomenal. He was energetic, funny, and incredibly knowledgeable -- a true wealth of information about the bridge, its history, the surrounding area, and even the engineering marvel that makes this bridge so special. He made sure everyone felt comfortable and had a great time while sharing tons of fun facts that made the walk even more fascinating. If you're visiting the New River Gorge National Park and Preserve, I highly recommend adding this to your itinerary. And if you can, definitely request Larry as your guide -- he really made the experience extra special. It's safe, scenic, and an absolute must-do when visiting West Virginia!

Oh this is amazing! I don't think you'll be able to do this almost anywhere else! The walk was mostly flat save the hike down to and away from the bridge. Gear load is minimal, views from the catwalk are incredible, and you feel perfectly safe the whole time. If you would like, you may get to have a seat near the middle of the bridge! It's a little cooler under the bridge, and closed toed shoes are recommended. Gift shop has great gear, and you can pair the bridge walk with the Fayette Station driving tour to see how long the crossing used to be; the old one way route is under you the whole walk!

Go! Just do it! Girls trip of hiking, camping and this. West Virginia overall doesn't get the credit it deserves. I can't say enough how nice everyone was. Mattie was our guide and she's amazing at what she does..... she knows her stuff. Let me just share pics.

Omg if you want a trill - THIS IS IT!!! If you think that this going to be a quick walk-through, I don't think so. They actually stopped few times in the middle so everyone can get their photos. Will I do this again? Probably won't but it's definitely a great experience for first time. Happy exploring!!!!

This bridge walk was the highlight of my time at New River Gorge National Park. I really appreciated how knowledgeable our guide was, and he gave us plenty of time to take photos along the way.

You can sit an dangle your legs when you reach the middle of the bridge.

It was great! Can be a bit scary for those afraid of heights. It can be loud and shaky under the bridge if there is heavy traffic above. I feel the shakiness just added to the ambiance of walking a catwalk under a bridge! Never did I feel unsafe. You are tethered to a cable the entire time. It can be a bit windy, so dress accordingly. I'm glad I wore a knit hat (10/21/25). The views are spectacular!

Cool and amazing bridge!

My friends and I had an awesome experience on the Bridge Walk. Paul, our guide, was informative, entertaining, and made us feel safe the whole time. He deserves a bonus when it comes time!! And, of course the bridge is an engineering wonder!

The bridge itself was the star of the day!

It was a perfect outing from start to finish! John was an excellent guide and fun to talk to. He had a very calming manner which really helped with some of our "height averse" group members! And the views-WOW!!

Excellent and highly educated guide-wonderful experience! We learned a ton and really enjoyed this unique excursion.

The Bridge Walk is a must do if you are in the area, the views from the bridge are incredible! You meet for your walk across the street from the New River Gorge's Canyon Rim visitor center, so you can visit there before or after your walk. When we arrived for our walk, they divided us into 3 groups for the walk. The then helped us get into our gear and drove us across the street to the bridge walk entrance. The walkway is 2 feet across and has guardrails the entire way. They also connect you to a safety cable, so you are very safe on the walk. The views are incredible, I took so many pictures. Our guide had us stop a few times for information and to take photos. Overall, our walk took about an hour and 45 minutes. I would recommend having a phone holder to wear to not drop your phone, I bought one off Amazon but the Bridge Walk sells some too. You also can't take any bags or food/ drink on your walk. The walk is pricey but I highly recommend, it was the highlight of our trip.

Wow wow wow. What an experience this was. Definitely breath taking. Our tour guide (I think Bob) was really nice older gentleman who knew how to make you feel safe and comfortable. The bridge is about 1,000 high and 3,000 long. You only walk across once, thankfully, haha. The group we went with was also nice which makes a huge difference on how the adventure goes. There was a total of six of us, which made the experience better. I don't think I would ever do this again, but it is an experience of a lifetime that I think everyone should do at least once.

The first few steps walking onto the catwalk under the bridge were a little scary, but then I got used to it.

An amazing set of Falls. See the Lower falls if you can…read more This is one of the best sights along the entire drive. There are 3 different sights to see at this stop. There are upper, middle and lower falls. Let's start at the beginning. There is a parking lot for about 30 cars directly off the road. There is a set of restrooms in the parking lot across from the trailhead. The trailhead has a solid pathway of switchbacks that leads to an observation point to the upper falls viewpoint. For people that want to shortcut the windy path, there is a straighter trail that goes directly down the hill to the first viewpoint. From there, there is a boardwalk with lots of steps that leads down the a bridge that crosses the river. Then more boardwalk and a steel set of stair to two platforms to view the middle falls. More boardwalk along the river and a large wooden stair platform leads to the lower falls. If you get a chance, you should see all three as each is unique and all are beautiful as much as the walk is enjoyable. Just remember, walking down is easy and you have to walk back up to return to the parking lot. Well worth the walk. Enjoy.

It is a well developed trail with lots of stairs, including an actual stairwell to get you to the bottom of the falls. If you are mobile and in the area you should visit, just give yourself some time on the hike back if your a big person like myself.

Absolute worst camping experience of my entire life. The people running this place had the nerve to…read morecall me literally the morning of my reservation and tell me my reservation was not being honored, the last thing I want to hear when out of state and hundreds of miles away from home while on a trip I spent countless hours preparing for. Total bullshit. Ruined my whole day and tainted my visit to West Virginia and New River Gorge. Don't bother camping here unless you want to be moved to a shitty site with more noise and less privacy that you didn't pay for and don't want. I spent a considerable amount of time researching third-party websites for views and reviews of specific sites before booking. They granted me the indignity of having to camp literally right next to the one I paid for and reserved in advance while someone else camped in the site I booked and was looking forward to. They claim they overbooked, but it was a different site than mine and on a previous day - making it entirely irrelevant to my reserved site the day of - they just couldn't be bothered to ask the person in my reserved site to move now that others were opened. Instead of asking the double-booked person to move to the one I was given, they made it my problem. Extremely unprofessional and just plain wrong. It's ridiculous that they even have a system which supposedly allows for double-booking in the first place. I never would have booked the site they replaced mine with. I checked out the site but never checked in (the RV people were right on the other side of the trees behind my site, something I had intentionally tried to avoid), ended up camping for free at Grandview Sandbar Campground instead. If I wanted that site I would have reserved it, but I didn't and would not have. Completely defeats the purpose of making a reservation if they aren't going to honor it. Little Beaver State Park Campground is run by incompetent and inconsiderate people. Flawed booking system and inept individuals ruining a public institution. Total joke, shame on them. "We hope you don't mind". Damn right I mind, you took my money for a reservation you didn't keep! I hated my non-stay with a passion and will never be back.
