Whitewater Rafting

Had a great trip with the N&G RA team. Felt very personalized for our family of four. Brody was an excellent guide. Funny jokes and knowledgeable about the area and its history. Ran the lower New River at neutral in mid July and it was exciting. Even though we did the "Express", still got to jump in and float for a bit. Fun afternoon and worth it if you enjoy outdoor sports!

Me, my Son, and Daughter-in-law planned a little WV getaway and decided to try something fun and exciting that was unique to the area. Whitewater rafting is what we decide on. This was our first rafting trip and we had an absolute blast! Scott, our river guide was awesome. The weather was a little drizzly and cold, but we still had an amazing time. Scott was sure to tell us what was coming next and what to expect. I would definitely recommend booking with New and Gauley if you are planning a trip down the river.

A few of us drove 15 hours to West Virginia to go white water rafting this week. We were not wanting a wimp trip, clearly. We could not have been happier with our one day at New & Gauley River Adventure. We had Costa Rica Scott as our guide, who was not only hilarious, but a thrill-seeker for us as well. He went above & beyond to make this trip memorable. But not only is this for the thrill seekers, but families & those with medical problems too. Another raft group had a younger boy with a history of epilepsy, so they did the same trip, but did not maneuver the rapids the same as us. I cannot wait to come back and experience the rapids in the fall. I could not recommend these guys & the company (a mom & pop, homegrown company!) enough. They even gave us tips on the best & lesser known hiking spots.

We had an awesome adventure! The stories the guides told about the local history made it even more interesting. We took Brendon advice and toured the Whipple Company Store, I learned more about WV history than all my years studying it in school. It's a must see, watch out for the man in the vault though... Extremely friendly staff and very accommodating even when it's really hectic. The sunsets from the on-site restaurant, the Burrito Bar, was amazing!! It's a very hippy place, everyone is welcome. I've been home for a day and already planning my next trip.

It rained Friday night so the water was elevated in the lower new river which made it great for a summer ride.

Wow wow wow. We tend to be a little bougie with our accommodations so we were going out on a limb…read moreduring our trip to West Virginia. Partly because there were no four seasons in the area (mostly joking) but also because we were in WeSt vIrGiNiA and wanted to get in touch with NaTuRe we decided to go outside of our cocmfort zone and picked some closer to nature options. This was the second. We went with Kaymoor at Adventures on the Gorge. Thjey have the full scale between literal camping and hotel-like, I believe we chose the most hotel-like option. I wanted to do the glamping but there were none available about a month before our trip when I finally got my shit together to book shit. Check in was super easy. We were given a key and a treasure map of how to get to our "cabin" which was easy to drive to. It is a legit cabin in the woods but will all amenities one would expect staying in the a hotel. Great bathroom and shower with a ton of towels, bedroom and separate lounge room that included a mini fridge. TV, wifi, climate control. There was even a cute little porch with chairs in the literal woods. It is so cool. AC worked great. The shower was great. They provided more towels than I'm used to getting at hotels. The bed was SUPER COMFY. I literally don't have enough good things to say about this place. Such a good choice.

We stayed in a beautiful cabin that was extremely clean and spacious with a picnic bench, firepit, and trees for hanging a hammock. We took a phenomenal 5 hour white water rafting trip down the New River with our very knowledgeable and personable guide, Greg! He guided us through huge rapids and even a thunderstorm! They even gave us snacks halfway through! We also zip lined with Adventures on the Gorge, and all of their employees are just so humorous and you can tell they love their jobs. 10/10 experience!!

I had an absolutely terrible wonderful 2 hour trail ride here!…read moreI booked through ACE Adventure resort as I was rafting there but you can book directly with Cowboy Town and save a few bucks (just a tip). When you show up, someone will open the gate for you. If no one is there, call the number on the gate. Staff were incredibly kind and relaxed. You'll sign a waiver. It's up to you if you want to wear a helmet or not (I chose not to). You'll be paired with a horse based on weight and experience. I was paired with Scarlett. She was a beautiful horse who definitely knew her own strength and was on a mission to eat nonstop (can relate, Scarlett!). I think she would eat a whole tree if given the chance! I really enjoyed riding her! I'm often paired with horses with a bolder personality and I wouldn't have it any other way! They give my ride life and make it memorable! Thanks for the ride, Scarlett. The trail itself was beautiful. It's entirely through the woods and oh so peaceful. I wish I could enjoy that sort of serenity more often. After your ride is over, it's nothing short of appropriate to tip your guide(s) and in doing so, you get to ride their mechanical bull. To be honest, I've been waiting my entire life to do this! I just never seen one in person to have the opportunity. They gave us some tips and one by one we rode the bull. It was really fun and I'm glad I finally got the chance to do it! I would absolutely recommend this place and have 0 complaints!

We stayed in the Black Bear Cabin, and it was everything we hoped for. The cabin's location was ideal: less than 10 minutes from the New River Gorge Bridge, tucked away at the end of a private gravel road, and surrounded by over an acre of rolling mountain meadow (which was ideal for tossing a football with my son). The cabin itself boasts a well-stocked kitchen with modern appliances, a 50" smart TV for our movie nights, a stackable washer and dryer, a wrap-around porch for coffee while watching the fog lift, and even a hot tub to soak away the day's adventures. The cabin had three comfortably furnished bedrooms, featuring a luxurious king in the master with an en suite bath, plus a queen and twin beds in the other rooms, the cabin comfortably accommodated our family. We also enjoyed the rustic charm of the gas fireplace and the modern yet cozy furniture throughout. When we encountered one maintenance issue, the service staff was very responsive and resolved it quickly, keeping our vacation uninterrupted. The cabin's central location made it easy to explore other local attractions like Pie's & Pints, the Escape-A-Torium, the Bridge Walk, and plenty of nearby hikes. We left with lasting memories and a promise to return soon. Country Road Cabins will definitely be our go-to spot on our next visit to the area!

If you are looking for a relaxed quiet place to spend a weekend would definitely recommend. Super close to the National Park and will definitely be back during warmer days.
