This was a truly incredible experience. We have 3 boys ages 12, 10 and 8. Our 8 year old is on the spectrum although high functioning. They were all so excited but 1/4 way through when the win kicked up our youngest got very scared. Our guide, Maddie, was truly incredible...fun, kind and caring. She walked both our youngest and my husband back to the beginning and then quickly made her way back to the group and gave us a fun and amazing tour of the the bridge and history of the area and park. I am scared of heights but felt secure and safe and ended up thoroughly enjoying the walk. My older two boys said it was one of the most fun things they've ever done. 10/10 recommend!!! read more

If you are even remotely considering doing the Bride Walk, do it! It is an amazing experience. Unless you are completely terrified of heights you will feel safe and secure. The guides are wonderful and make sure you are good the entire way and even give you a final opportunity to change your mind once you reach the start of the walk. Absolutely Amazing Experience! I did the Bridge Walk at the New River Gorge Bridge this past Sunday, and it was absolutely amazing! What an unforgettable experience walking beneath one of the most iconic bridges in the country -- 851 feet above the beautiful New River! Even though the catwalk is only about two feet wide, I felt completely safe the entire time. We were securely harnessed in, and safety was clearly the top priority from start to finish. Our guide, Larry, was phenomenal. He was energetic, funny, and incredibly knowledgeable -- a true wealth of information about the bridge, its history, the surrounding area, and even the engineering marvel that makes this bridge so special. He made sure everyone felt comfortable and had a great time while sharing tons of fun facts that made the walk even more fascinating. If you're visiting the New River Gorge National Park and Preserve, I highly recommend adding this to your itinerary. Oh this is amazing! I don't think you'll be able to do this almost anywhere else! The walk was mostly flat save the hike down to and away from the bridge. Gear load is minimal, views from the catwalk are incredible, and you feel perfectly safe the whole time. If you would like, you may get to have a seat near the middle of the bridge! It's a little cooler under the bridge, and closed toed shoes are recommended. Gift shop has great gear, and you can pair the bridge walk with the Fayette Station driving tour to see how long the crossing used to be; the old one way route is under you the whole walk! read more

Omg if you want a trill - THIS IS IT!!! If you think that this going to be a quick walk-through, I don't think so. They actually stopped few times in the middle so everyone can get their photos. It was great! Can be a bit scary for those afraid of heights. It can be loud and shaky under the bridge if there is heavy traffic above. I feel the shakiness just added to the ambiance of walking a catwalk under a bridge! Never did I feel unsafe. You are tethered to a cable the entire time. It can be a bit windy, so dress accordingly. I'm glad I wore a knit hat (10/21/25). The views are spectacular! read more

Our guide, Larry, grew up locally and spent a good part of his youth sneaking out onto the catwalk of the New River Gorge Bridge. Now "retired" the bridge is still central to his life as Part has been here for several years leading Bridge Walk tours and was our guide today. The walk was amazing. Loved hearing about the history of the bridge and the surrounding area while gently swaying on the catwalk some 25' below the road surface and 851' above the gorge. The only bummer is we booked this walk a few months ago and didn't know we'd be flying home to Tucson just two days before Bridge Days event where at least 140,000 are expected to enjoy a walk over the closed bridge, browse through vendor spots across the bridge, and watch daredevils parachute, rappel, and catapult off the bridge. A good reason for us to return one day to this beautiful state and take in this event!!! read more

The Bridge Walk is a must do if you are in the area, the views from the bridge are incredible! You meet for your walk across the street from the New River Gorge's Canyon Rim visitor center, so you can visit there before or after your walk. When we arrived for our walk, they divided us into 3 groups for the walk. The then helped us get into our gear and drove us across the street to the bridge walk entrance. The walkway is 2 feet across and has guardrails the entire way. They also connect you to a safety cable, so you are very safe on the walk. The views are incredible, I took so many pictures. Our guide had us stop a few times for information and to take photos. Overall, our walk took about an hour and 45 minutes. I would recommend having a phone holder to wear to not drop your phone, I bought one off Amazon but the Bridge Walk sells some too. You also can't take any bags or food/ drink on your walk. The walk is pricey but I highly recommend, it was the highlight of our trip. read more

Wow wow wow. What an experience this was. Definitely breath taking. Our tour guide (I think Bob) was really nice older gentleman who knew how to make you feel safe and comfortable. The bridge is about 1,000 high and 3,000 long. You only walk across once, thankfully, haha. The group we went with was also nice which makes a huge difference on how the adventure goes. There was a total of six of us, which made the experience better. I don't think I would ever do this again, but it is an experience of a lifetime that I think everyone should do at least once. read more

Underneath the four lanes of highway 19 and among the rust-red girders and beams is a lesser-known feature of the bridge: a two-foot-wide, grated-steel catwalk that runs the entire length of the bridge. And you can walk it ! The bridge walk was the highlight of our trip to New River Gorge National Park. Here's what to know : You'll park at the outfitter and you'll put on the safety gear that will tether you to the bridge . You'll then be shuttled to the bridge with your tour guide . Once under the bridge you will use the carabiner to tether yourself to the bridge for safety. If you have a fear of heights the first few steps are okay , the anxiety sets in about midway when you become immersed under the bridge and recognize how high you are . Take your time , breathe and hold onto the handrails . The cat walk you walk across is two feet wide with hand rails on either side . The walk itself takes about 45 mins to an hour . Upon completing the walk , the shuttle then picks you up and returns you to the outfitter. Some tips : Make sure you use the bathroom at the outfitter. If you're cold natured , bring a jacket or wear layers. Be careful with your phone . If you drop it , there's no recovering it as it will fall into the river . The outfitter sells cell phone holders you can wear around your neck . No flip flops allowed . Heels not recommended . Enjoy the beautiful views and experience ! read more

Unless you're absolutely terrified of heights, you MUST do this if you're near Fayetteville. You're wearing fall protection and on a 20ish inch walkway with high railing on both sides the whole time. This is an experience like no other. You get to walk the entire length of the bridge and experience a perspective that not many people get to see. I would highly recommend trying to walk near the guide as it can be a little bit noisy under the bridge with the traffic above. Our guide was Carl and he was knowledgeable and funny too. He did a great job! Would highly recommend doing this if you have a few hours of time in the area. read more

This was hands down the highlight of my recent visit to the New River Gorge National Park. The Bridge Walk (offered by an external tour company not affiliated with the NPS) offers a unique opportunity to get up close and personal with an amazing architectural accomplishment and some truly breathtaking views. I'll be the first to admit I'm a bit terrified of heights but If I can do this 1mile walk across the 2-foot wide cat walk then so can anyone with a minor to moderate fear phobia. There are guardrails on either side of you and you're tethered in and essentially wearing zip-lining gear just in case somehow the unthinkable happens. The views are truly breathtaking and learning the history of the bridge and the region and then the impact that the bridge had on the local community was incredibly interesting. No purses, bags, or fannie packs allowed. I ended up purchasing the cellphone lanyard for $5 since my outfit didn't have pockets to help keep my cell phone secure - which ended up being really convenient since my phone was easily accessible at all times when i wanted to snap a photo. This tour is a great way to learn the history of the park and the area and provides a great baseline for visiting its natural wonders. read more
