A blissful Sunday off is the chance to embrace yourself; to forget the daily to-and-fro of work and endless, mounting tasks and to do something for you. With a Sunday off together, we thought to take our bikes on the train to Polmont and to cycle along the canal to Linlithgow to visit some friends and their boat.
We spotted Bridge 49, which is conveniently located next to the 49th canal bridge, and just had to head on in for some late lunch/early dinner before our visit. There's a pleasant family feel, and a lovely friendly atmosphere. We were given such a genuine warm welcome, and deciding to make the most of the beautiful day, picked a table outside.
The menu's just bursting with British classics. I was just craving a real comforting serving of fish and chips and the Bridge 49 didn't disappoint. - Fresh, fluffy haddock with a delightful portion of chips and a serving of peas and coleslaw on the side. Classic bistro grub, and great value for money. Just how could we resist a few slices of chocolate cake to take over to the boat? Oh so moist and gooey, it was a slice of heaven! Four slices of cake were on the costly side but, boy oh boy, worth every penny.
It's great that cyclists and boaters alike can stop by for a bite to eat as there's nothing else like this in the vicinity. Bridge 49 is relatively new and I'd say that it's an extremely welcome addition to the canal. - I look forward to my next visit! read more
