Lovely food. Friendly staff. They do an excellent caramel apple Betty. Not bad price either. Will be back soon.

It's quite a small pub and it can get pretty busy on Friday and Saturday evenings, but the clientele are really friendly and warm, as are the staff, so it's not an issue. I've been drinking in here for well over ten years with a crowd of friends and it's become the traditional venue for our Christmas Eve pintage. The place was bought over several years ago by a well-known local publican who had a good reputation for fixing pubs up, getting them running well and moving on. He's never moved on from The Sheaf - which must tell you something! On draft there's always a really good selection of guest ales as well as the standards. There's been a real focus on ale in here and you're always assured something interesting to try. The staff are top-class, I'm always greeted with a warm smile. For me The Sheaf comes into it's own on a cold winter's night - it's small, cosy, there's an open fire, auld men with dogs, great malts, tasty ales and a warm welcome.

We paid a visit after a day out tour at The Helix Park…read more Front of house lady was friendly and efficient and joined two tables together to fit our party (six adults, two toddlers and one baby) The Cadgers Brae is part of the Brewers Fayre group with a standard set of menus for all their branches. We ordered and paid at the cash desk, and even though we paid in three "chunks" they didn't have a problem with that and neither did the kitchen. I went through a portion of Spicy potatoes dippers which were tasty and crispy. As a main course I had the slow cooked Lamb Shank properly done with a semi-sweetish after taste. We also shared some Nachos which were adequate. My mates got: * The Ultimate Sausage and Mash which was ok taste-wise but a bit disappointing size-wise (after all supposed to be the Ultimate...) * Red Onion Quiche, thumbs up. * A Brewers Fayre Burger, a bit too well done. * Kids got chicken nuggets and garden peas and spaghetti with tomato sauce, and they cleaned their plates too, so, good marks for that too. Waiter was friendly. His service was okish as it was just for clearing/cleaning and delivering plates; however, it was slow between starters and mains as we ended up waiting for 20 minutes to get our tables cleared prior to our main course arrival. The Cadgers Brae has a cool play kids' area as it's a family friendly place, a strong WiFi (albeit, need to register) and an ATM machine (with a £ 1.75 charge). All in all it was a positive experience as Brewers Fayre offer good value for money. Recommended for families, groups and if you are in a budget. Waiter should be more fast and clear tables before bringing mains. (friendly waiter too) Good value for money.

As Brewers' Fayres go, this is decided average. The meals are nothing fantastic, they never are,…read morebut there is a bar area conveniently completely separate from the family dining so depending on why you are there you can stay clear of the kids or not worry about bothering the kid-less. The large indoor play area keeps the little ones occupied, but there are only a few tables with a view of the play area, all of which are designed for large groups. The play area itself has a couple of good slides and lots of different places for kids to explore. Unfortunately there are also several of the dreaded (by parents at least) rides. Outside is another play area and a large are with picnic benches. The smoke free legislation has unfortunately made this the realm of the smokers (I really wish there was somewhere for smoking separate from where kids are expected) but if its not too packed with smokers its a nice place to sit on a sunny afternoon and enjoy a glass of wine while the wee ones burn off some energy.

How things have changed, the pipes have been cleaned and the light snacks and nibbles on sale are in date. There has even been the addition of a female bar maid or two in recent times, which for the Woody, is an event of similar significance to the fall of the Berlin Wall. I can't complain much at all about this boozer, the clientele is of a slightly more mature nature, but there is never any trouble and the beer is good. If anything the seats need to be widened to accommodate for my appalling posture, but it is otherwise an establishment of the highest caliber. Best buy is a pint of Belhaven Best, and if you're feeling classy, why not use it to wash down a pack of Scampi fries. Welcome to the world of Falkirk's elite.

Nowadays you only have a splitting headache to contend with in the morning rather than hallucinations due to the loss of fluid, but it's still just as enjoyable as ever. The walls are yellow from years of nicotine stains, Sweetheart Stout is on sale, and while it might look and feel like an "old man" pub, at weekends especially the punters come from a wide age range. It's my favourite pub of all, and nothing beats a sit down here with a Best and a bag of chilli nuts. It's been going well over 150 years and assuming Kim Jong-il doesn't push the red button, I expect it will last a few more centuries yet.
