Instead of typical bread it used a folded pizza dough and both our dishes tasted phenomenal. If you visit trying their food is a must, do not skip on it! Beer wise today we sampled four beers new to us. I got Wings their NEIPA & Vuelo Nocturno Mexican Lager while my wife got their Plane Beer American Lager and the Krösswind Kölsch. We enjoyed all four of them and we were glad to have found so many on tap we had yet to try! Every person behind the bar has been friendly and welcoming each time we've visited. One of the things we appreciate most is that they allow dogs inside. Our puppy loved relaxing while we enjoyed our food and drinks, which makes it such an easy spot for dog owners. The location on a former military base adds a really unique atmosphere, and they do a great job leaning into that theme with thoughtful details throughout. It's your typical New England style burgers, salads, lobster rolls, appetizers and seasonal offerings. I've never had a bad meal at the Sea Dog Topsham location. Like I said - we were a big group and our Server was excellent about separating our tabs, taking our food orders, and the drinks came fast. The location is in a gorgeous old mill overlooking the river with outdoor dining in the summer. This location is super popular so there is usually a wait - but the wait goes fast. Swish, Here's to Feeling Good All the Time, Nothing Gold, and Reciprocal are a formidable foursome. At any given time, you can usually get at least two, more often three, sometimes all four. -- You'd be hard pressed (pun intended) to find a better smashburger in Portland, but I'd also put it up against any regularly-offered burger I've had in Portland--smashed or otherwise. I love everything about it, from the high caliber of the beef to the fresh pillowy milk bun to the exhilaratingly strong cure of the bacon to the razor-thin cutting of the vegetables to the execution that gets even a smashburger burger juicy. -- I'm still not crazy about the wings. That's a plus. -- The place is much more crowded-- including screaming tykes-- on the weekends. At this point now Bissell is broken into two separate parts. The first will be the space welcoming to families and is more of their restaurant style area. Appeared to be a popular area and does offer reservations. My preferred area is the Bissell Garden as they call it. Those entering need to be of drinking age and have more lounge vibes where you order at the bar. It still offers full kitchen menu so is perfect. Particularly my favorite is snagging bar stools to grab some beers and food. I had to try out the Super Swish while my wife grabbed their red ale named Turnpike. Then food wise we split their kitchen special Classic Poutine. Some of the best classic kept simple poutine I have had. The perfect comfort food for yet another cold weather day in Maine. Have been impressed by all the food from Bissell. Truly the only negative still stands being the fact it's on Thompson's Point and required paid parking (not Bissell Brothers call but still). Today marked the first time I have revisited since way back in February of 2019. At that point they had only been open since October 2018. Hard to remember just how much the space had changed but it is still small but not meant in a negative way at all. It's a small but inviting and well decorated space. Plenty of as you would expect Pug pictures and decor, so very cute! I appreciate that they take risks with more unique beer offerings. Including their flagship THAI.P.A that uses ginger and lemongrass and they rotate different flavors into it. Jasmine and hibiscus beers and more. More traditionally they offer a kolsch as well. They also have bottles to go and offer growler (aptly named pug jugs) to go as well. If you can't decide their smaller pours are perfect to sample multiple brews. This visit my wife enjoyed their fruited sour Druidcraft and I got their smoked lager Camp Wood 4 Sale. Both tasty and well made. Friendly and knowledgeable bartenders will help find the perfect beer for you and make you feel welcome in their space. Also although we did not partake this particular weekend they were offering Christmas ornament painting, a great little craft activity!
