Funky little place in Balham. Interior covered with corrugated iron on the walls and coffee sacks from around the world on its ceiling. The coffee was extremely strong but very good. Tap water places on the table without having to ask almost straight off. Went for the banana bread with espresso butter. What can I say it was absolutely amazing and I would go back just for that every time. Moist bread with a real kick of coffee from the butter. Busy but not too crowded although I think it would be on the weekends!

Skinny cap - now when I walk past the other high street coffee shops, I feel like they're peasants compared to this royalty.

It's also (small) dog-friendly so glad I brought my senior chihuahua to chill out. I got the prana masala chai latte with cashew and coconut milk to start. Honestly it was only ok. Not the most flavorful although lovely to look at. I always find chai without dairy milk is just never as good, sadly. The waiter got my order wrong- I ordered the Kumara rather than the corn fritters- but another staff member graciously took the plate away (although the fritters looked temptingly delicious!) As there was quite a long wait for the replacement, he offered a drink on the house so I got the antioxidant revive. It was bright pink, sweet and tasty. Once my dish arrived I was thrilled how good it was: a very generous arrangement of sweet potato/ feta and pumpkin seeds all tasted wonderful. I cleaned my plate. My friend got the avo bread as vegan so just as mashed avo and bread, and a matcha latte. Service otherwise was very good. I also got the vegan wrap for takeaway. I had it for lunch the next day and wow it was great! Really tasty mash of lentils and sweet potato and quite filling.

You know, in case you overindulge on this good food and need to go run it off. The vibe is quite chill and it's a perfect spot to grab a quick bite and some good coffee while getting some work done. They even have an outdoor patio out back that, weather permitting, guarantees a lovely meal. The fare is your quintessential cafe food with a bit of flair added in for good measure. The menu has everything from toasted wraps and sandwiches- the toasted Vegetarian Wrap has a Mediterranean twist that is both light & filling- salads, pastries, eggy breakfast dishes, including a delicious French Toast dish with hints of orange, cinnamon, vanilla mascarpone, and your choice of poached maple banana or streaky bacon, or both! Even the juices and smoothies are on point here, and there is no way you can go wrong with their Dairy-Free Chocolate Smoothie with cocoa, avocado, banana, Manuka honey, almond milk, and coconut water. The coffee, of course, is great, and they carry a Milo Nutella Iced Chocolate that is sure to knock your socks off. So go ahead, take a break from all that hustle & bustle, and enjoy some hearty food and sweet drinks.

Loved this little whole in the wall. I was so comfortable here and the decor and drinks are amazing.read more

I'm not sure how I haven't reviewed this place yet?…read more I love it in here, they have really gone all out with the decor, they have old British Empire maps on the walls, the menus, food and drinks are all colonial inspired, a lot of thought and care has gone in to the smaller details. They are open in the mornings for tea, coffee, Masala Chai and breakfast foods, they do a great range of pastries and cakes, paninis etc... If you go in the evening I recommend the Masala Chai Martini, it's happiness in a martini glass, their wine selection is a little lacking and the drinks are a little on the expensive side, but you are definitely paying for the experience and atmosphere. They also serve food in the evening you have to order at the Cardamon Club a few doors down and it's cash only. You can book the areas at the back and you can even buy a bottle of spirit at the bar and they'll make you drinks with it all night, perfect for a night out with your friends. Only a couple of things prevent it being 5 stars, it's very small so it's gets very cramped very quickly, on Saturday when we went they obviously had a small party in the back area, and diners in the front so it meant lots of people were kind of hovering/sitting at the bar. The bar staff are friendly and welcoming, although one particularly barman Saturday night was clearly showing off a little for some customers, which meant at one point he accidentally splashed gin up my neck, when making a cocktail. Then a few minutes later he shattered a bottle of tonic when he 'couldn't find' the bottle opener (which was nearby) and tried to open the tonic with a cocktail shaker, considering how busy the bar area was, it seemed a little stupid. No one begrudges anyone having fun at work (really I don't) but it just seemed stupid to me. Overall awesome place, definitely need to go back slightly earlier in the night, perhaps order some food and more guarantee of a table to sit at, looking forward to my next visit and more Masala Chai Martini's.
