Bricks Neapolitan Pizza just became my new favorite pizza place in MN, which is a huge bummer since, being located in Hudson, WI, it's kind of a hike from where I live. That being said - for all those who live in St. Paul or Woodbury (or heading to Hudson for the weekend) - this is definitely a place you should consider stopping at some point for lunch or dinner. The space inside is fairly small, but the service is excellent. We had reservations at 7:30 for 10 girls celebrating a bachelorette party. Nine of us ordered one of their 10inch pizzas and one ordered the chicken pesto panini. They have many options for both red and white pizzas, more options than most menus I've seen for Neapolitan style pizza - especially for their white pizzas! I ordered their Formaggi Bianca, which is made with garlic, Parmesan, goat cheese, smoked provolone, and fresh basil. I also added hot honey drizzle on it which is their Thai chili-infused honey from River Falls, WI. I was so excited they had this as a topping as it's my FAVORITE on pizza. I did think it was a bit expensive as I was charged $2 for the honey drizzle; I believe that's as much as adding most extra toppings or almost as much as adding meat. It honestly was the best pizza ever though especially for a white pizza so I'd probably get it again! The server also split up all of our checks and brought out free dessert for the bride to be to choose from, which was so nice. Can't wait to come back! read more

We love this place! The owner, Celina is so friendly and truly happy to see us every time we visit. The food is so fresh an authentically Italian. I love it when I'm in the mood for a pizza but don't want to feel full with too much thick crust and cheese. The Gorgonzola salad is my favorite but the rest of the family raves about the Caesar salad. (They even have anchovies upon request) If you really want to try something different, they are featuring a Hot Honey Pizza. Sounds crazy but it's sooo good. It's a spicy sweet combination of pepperoni, basil, cheese, fresh tomato sauce, banana peppers and chili infused honey. Give it a try! Only draw backs: Downtown parking can be a challenge. The restaurant is small and busy Fri. and Sat. nights, so I wouldn't recommend just popping in with a party larger than six. read more

My guilty pleasure. By far my absolute favorite restaurant! If they ever closed or moved I would be heart broken. I LOVE their seasonal hot honey pizza, has everything I could ask for, honey, pepperoni, goat cheese, Basil, and a perfectly crispy woodfire crust. TRY IT. Sounds weird, tastes amazing. My husband also adds hot honey to his brio pizza since it's just so good. The service is always very kind, and always remembers us and greets us with a smile and a "the usual?" we love it. I recommend the "Pizza Di Bricks." Toppings on this pie include Italian sausage, roasted red peppers, fresh basil, and mushrooms. (They are kind to omit the mushrooms and replace with kalamata olives). The Gorgonzola salad is yummy. Included with salads are 2 scrumptious rosemary sea-salt flat bread wedges! Their website, which includes a menu is simply: eatbricks.com The fact that you are enough of a foodie to use "Yelp" when seeking out restaurants probably indicates you are keenly aware of what "Neapolitan" style pizza is... but, in case you're not... here is the simplified version: Pizza made by preserving the tradition of the pizza as it began in Naples, Italy including using a special oven operating at approximately 900 degrees to "flash cook" the pizzas in less than 2 minutes. The other key component is using only fresh, all-natural, non-processed ingredients. Admittedly I'm biased because, as a Hudson resident, I claim Bricks as my own. It's nice having this superb restaurant so close at hand. Better than Pizzeria Bianco!... There I said it. The pizza taste good but they are stingy with the cheese as one reviewer already mentioned. Service was top notch ---a gem of a gal with a great sense of humor. Wine and beer only and the wine is around 7-8 for a small short glass bottle beer is 5.00 for new glarus so it really adds to your tab. Also the atmosphere does nothing for me. I spend 35.00 for a small personal pizza and a glass of wine and a beer...I felt a little cheated with this experience. Probably will pass on this place in the future. My husband is a born-in-Milano Italian and we have eaten many pizzas in Italy. This is the real thing--and in Hudson, Wisconsin! Woo-hoo! We often go to Bricks with the in-laws, who tend to be purists and stick with the pizza margherita. However, we have been here enough times that we've branched out just for variety, and we've never had a disappointing pizza. Their salads are fresh and generously sized; I'm nuts ;-) about the gorgonzola-pecan salad. The atmosphere is sophisticated without being haughty. I still travel here frequently from Minneapolis with my friend whenever we have a pizza craving that we can't itch in the cities. Luckily for us, 45 minutes (or less, if I'm driving) and we're there menus in hand drooling over which pizza to get this time. today it was the Capagnola, with perfect sun-dried tomatoes, tangy goat cheese, mushrooms lots of fresh basil and salty proscuitto. The crust is always doughy and chewy (in the best possible ways) and on the thin side without being crispy at all. Love their gorgonzola salad - a must order in my book - was a perfect balance of bleu cheese, crunchy and sweet walnuts and crisped proscuitto. The dressing is a light vinaigrette giving the salad the tart acidity that it needs. I love coming here and am always surprised to see how few people are dining whenever we're there. We asked the waitress if they delivered locally and she said that they didn't. So, I implore you to come take a trip to Hudson's cute main street and check out this tiny pizza place with the best pizza for miles. To further tempt you, I learned that Bricks is one of a few restaurants that is VPN certified. This mean that they have been approved by the Associazione Verace Pizza Napoletana and have met their strict guidelines for pizza making. Sounds official and super fancy to me. But you'll have to taste this for yourself to know exactly why this certification is very well-earned. read more

Better than Punch? Debatable. Good Napo' style pizza but much more sauce than cheese, which is not exactly how it is made at Punch. The sauce is quite nice, though. The server goofed up my son's "bambino" pizza and it had to be re-made. While the rest of his family ate their pizzas. 12 minutes later his pizza returned to the table and was incredibly hot. He was hungry but we cautioned him not to eat it right away. So after another few minutes of nothing he got to eat alone as we all looked at him. I almost expected his pizza to be free, given all that drama, but Brick's left it on the bill. Instead of disputing the bill I paid and we left. The salads are quite wonderful at Brick's. We opted to spend our Black Friday in Hudson and traded shopping for eating at at Bricks--an excellent idea all around. Bricks offers Neapolitan pizza in the Punch vein, e.g. pizzas topped with quality ingredients emerging from a wood fired oven. As Tim noted in his review, Bricks is VPN certified, which means you will be getting the real deal (check out the restaurant's website for a detailed list of what is entailed with VPN certification). We started our meal with the Gorgonzola salad, which mixed romaine with Gorgonzola, bacon, pecans and a sweet dressing. The sweetness of the Gorgonzola bounced off the salty bacon and sweet crunch of nut, all to our mutual dining pleasure: We left no salad behind. For pizza, we shared the Salsiccia, a zippy little pie sporting Italian sausage, olives and roast red peppers. It being Black Friday, we opted for the DOC upgrade, which bought us fresh buffalo mozzarella and a drizzle of EVOO for a couple of bucks extra. The fresh mozz added a buttery smoothness to the spicy sausage and savory olive flavors, and the pizza too was eaten in a flash. The overall goodness of the food was complimented by the extremely friendly and skilled service as well as the pleasant and attractive design of the physical space. Next time you're in the area, take a detour from the usual Hudson dining choices (typically some variation on "a burger and fries") in favor of the fresh, woodfired pizza mirth offered at Bricks. read more

Funky fresh ingredients and a cozy downtown Hudson atmosphere make Bricks a good pizza option to check out. The variety of pizzas they have are not going to be anything like your pepperoni, sausage or cheese pizzas. These are well thought out, crafted pies with unique and delicate flavors. We started out our lunch with one of their flatbread focaccia. It had the truffle oil drizzled on it, as well as goat cheese I believe. This was better than the pizza in my opinion, and was just warm and chewy and made you want more. Our pizzas were both very good (we got one each so we could try different flavors), and had a very thin crust, similar to other wood fired pizzas around town. I enjoyed the large variety of combinations, but it did make it hard for me to choose since so many sounded very good. This is a solid choice for a lunch in Hudson. Atmosphere was excellent - a mix of families with children, young & old, couples & tables of friends. I had the stuffed mushrooms, which were spicy, perfectly cooked & hearty. I also tried the Verde pizza, with prosciutto & arugula. The crust was perfect, chewy, crusty, with that fire stove earthiness to it....I only wished there was more arugula on top. Have been there a couple of times. The vibe is quiet and sweet, and the food is tremendous. The last time I was there, though, my friend was waiting for me, and already had a drink. We were the only two there, and our server took it upon herself to yell from the kitchen area to our table (across the entire room) to ask me if I wanted something to drink. Shocking. She proceeded to surprise us with her lack of professionalism, finishing by asking if she could eat our leftovers for lunch. The food is the saving grace, as the acoustics are a little rough (especially if there are kids there) and the ambiance is lacking. I like the non-profit aspect of the place. Eric and I were looking for family-friendly Hudson restaurants for a late Lunch/Early Dinner with our families. We independently chose Bricks, which is no surprise; we both manage to find quality places. Bricks is on Second St in downtown Hudson, a small vibrant little town which is just over the St. Croix River from Minnesota, about 35 miles from Minneapolis. The facade is nondescript. The interior is tastefully understated. There's some marquetry on the wood walls. On to the food! Thin crust pizza, red sauce or white. Sadly the sausage is bland. The dough is perfect. Good salads, which are free 4-6 PM M-F with a pizza! Great beer selection (local stuff, like New Glarus' Spotted Cow), Peroni (Italian,) decent wines by the glass. Very good service. (I was a little disappointed in the pizza margherita though... not enough basil and too much cheese... although, when in Wisconsin, etc... Man. I never though I'd think "too much cheese"... The day after Christmas and we are on the road home. On recommendation from a foodie who lives near us back home, we decided to try out Bricks. wood-fired pizza seems to be all the rage and why not give this a go. We checked out the menu online and decided it was the place to go for our celebratory goodbye dinner before a very long drive ahead of us. We were sat immediately just before a bunch of people came in. What we didn't realize (though should've expected) was the slower-than-usual service. We ordered a salad to share while our pizza was cooking. We were happy to do so since we could get caught up, but we also were a little worried that our order was not being filled. In fact, others who arrived after we did were getting their pizzas. We chalked it up to the holidays. When the pizza did arrive, it was delightful. Cooked to perfection and, with the salad, a perfect light meal that was easy to share. You'll enjoy the atmosphere, which could almost be mistaken for the lobby of a high end lodge in some ways. We have picked up pizza here a number of times. The bruchetta is great! They also offer a free glass of wine as an early bird special! Pizza de Brick and the quarttro formaggi are probably the best! Parking can sometimes be hard in downtown Hudson, but it is doable. read more

Me likes my Bricks! We've been coming here since it opened. This pizza is for those that appreciate a great pie. My only negative comment about Bricks is that I wish they had more to offer for drinks. Beer, wine and pop. When Bricks first opened they offered Italian sodas which were like lemonade (various flavors actually), with fizz. I don't like soda pop and you don't always want wine or beer but are bored out of your gourd with water. A tip, I wouldn't order a pizza to go. It gets a little soggy in the middle. My mom and dad introduced me to this place a month or two ago, and I can honestly say that I would drive all the way to Hudson (from Minneapolis) to eat here now and again even if I weren't meeting them. It's delicious!! They were pretty understaffed when we went, but it didn't seem to phase our server at all. (It was a Sunday night and we weren't in hurry either.) We each had a salad and pizza. I completely overate and couldn't have cared less. The only thing that convinced me to share was getting to try some of everyone else's too. Prices were reasonable, and the atmosphere was nice.
