We had sandwiches at lunchtime on a Sunday and there were a few friendly regulars at the bar and one other table with patrons. Extraordinary sized portions, it was all delicious! I ordered chicken tenders but they must give steroids to the chickens because it felt like I bit into a piece of rubber that had been cooked for 3 days. Gross. I have been going there for about 5 years, started awesome. In the last year the servers have gone down hill, I went in for one beer and a meal and was there 2 and a half hours because the server just never came back. I did order to go last time to avoid that, got 20 traditional bbq wing. BIT INTO A RAW CHICKEN WING. I eat 10 and save 10 for the next meal normally, I ripped them all open and most of them were raw. I didn't waste my time calling in for a refund, or to complain, I will NEVER go back there. I haven't had wings since, I gag now. Horrible. Do not go here. read more

A group of four went to watch some college football bowl games on a lazy Monday afternoon. We had fantastic service. We stuck to appetizers and would highly recommend the smoked chicken wings. Cheese wontons were okay, blackberry hot pepper dipping sauce was really very good. The tap beer selection is huge, menu lays them out nicely by style including a good selection of Iowa craft beers. I used to work at this bar when it was known by another name. One of the nicer casual bar/restaurants in the downtown area. It is narrow, but it does have a second floor (now with a second bar). The woodwork and exposed brick, along with displayed signage on one wall create a nice atmosphere. Unfortunately the prices have taken a turn toward the expensive. Yet finding any place serving food in a good atmosphere that is less expensive downtown would be difficult. The city building a parking ramp next door has done the building and the business no favors, yet this location continues to have good foot traffic and friendly clientele. There are many micro brew beers on Tap. Those who visited this location many years ago found domestics on tap and Imports (not microbrews) in bottles. The current beer trend still brings in the same kind of customer. The space in the kitchen is still limited, and allows for slow but steady output of normally good food. However larger crowds seeking full meals, still easily tax the restaurant portion of this business. The addition of a small bar in the upstairs portion of the space has helped to ease service to those areas on the second floor. All emergency exits from this space seem to comply with current codes. However the bathrooms probably would need to be upgraded if this building were new. Sight lines from the main bar are limited. And seating at the main bar is also limited. The correct rating for this business would be three and a half stars, but since it Yelp's system allows only 3 or 4 stars, and since Bricks is better than a three star bar/restaurant, I'm giving it 4 stars. read more

Been going to bricks for a lifetime it seems. They're alcohol selection is always nice, their bartenders are efficient and the environment is friendly. The space is a bit oddly shaped but I won't hold that against them. I feel bad for the new parking ramp taking away their sightlines, but I enjoy getting right out of my car and walkinh in the back door. read more

It was a late dinner that brought my girlfriend and I to this establishment. I found the inside to be interesting in its design and decor however, let me make a few observations regarding the extensive beer selection and food. Beginning with the positive aspect brisket sandwich hit the spot for a nice late night dinner the meat was flavorful but a little tough to chew it definitely was not tender as I had hoped for. Now it's interesting that they have so much beer on tap and provide you at the table with their listing of what they have on tap and interesting descriptions, however there's no prices on the menu so I asked our waitress what are the charges for the different types of beer. She came up with the most incredulous response I think I have ever heard stating that the price of the beer was based on the percentage of alcohol in it. Thus, she was totally unable to tell me what a simple glass of beer was going to cost me and literally had to go and ask the bartender what the beer I ordered was going to cost. I think it's a little obtuse to give a menu with no pricing and if this is the house way of not informing a customer the cost of a simple beer the house needs rethink this concept. I can't imagine just walking in and thinking that no one would be interested in the price of what they're buying. read more

Now reopened under stellar management and re-gearing toward a more professional crowd- which downtown CR very much needs. I didn't used to be much of a fan prior to the recent re-opening, but things have changed very much for the better. Fine-tuning their menu both for drinks and for food, so if you have some helpful thoughts you can help make this place even better. The owner and the current staff are quite attentive and open to feedback which is refreshing. This is quickly becoming a cozy, locally owned and operated place! Definitely deserves a new visit if you haven't been there in a while. Wine pours are generous, prices are fantastic, and some of the food selections are out of this world! Strongly recommend you give the "spin dip" a try~ the creamiest spinach dip I've ever had! Got into town late and wanted a burger and beer. Had one at hotel and got a short list of places... Luckily I choose this one first... Walked in and it was loud (8:30 Friday night). Great beer selection but all I wanted was a solid burger to hit the spot. The beer special was green flash ( fast becoming my favorite ...). Grabbed one and a seat on second floor over looking the main area. Ordered a burger when ready and it came quickly . Fries were well above average and burger was grreat. Potato bun (little not fresh) but very good nonetheless. Burger cooked to perfection with toppings I ordered on bottom... The way it should be... Had Second beer To finish it off to perfection. Could not ask for a better. Place to fill up and wash it down. To top it off bricks has thumbed its nose to the man , by maintaining its location when a huge parking deck surrounds it , making it obvious they were the only ones that did not sellout.... Bricks is a really nice place to relax and shoot the breeze, whether it's with the bartender or the person sitting next to you. Plenty of TVs, the menu has something for everyone and the beer selection is phenomenal. The staff is great. I don't want to go over the top, but there really isn't anything to complain about. Food is really good, reasonably priced, and comes out in a timely fashion. I don't go there during big sporting events, but when I've been there I can have conversations without having to yell or need to ask anyone to speak up. Two thumbs way up! read more

This is a great place to come for bar food. It is ALWAYS good. The nachos are unbelievably large, served on a pizza tray, and the best tasting in town loaded with toppings!! Their food is not assembly line style and is full of flavor. Their pizzas (the Hawaiian especially) are amazingggg. I took my brother here, who doesn't give props to many places on their food, and he loved his reuben sandwich. It is what good bar food should be: greasy and tasty! The sandwiches are full of meat piled high, and cooked to order. This is not a place to eat if you are on a diet, but if you want to share some beers and appetizers with friends, you absolutely cannot go wrong. I probably wouldn't go here just for drinks for more than a couple, as the inside is long and narrow and awkward to navigate when it's busy. They have a small upstairs area as well. Sometimes they also have live music. It's a good place to stop in for a few beers before moving on to the next spot. They have a huge number of draft beers. When I used to frequent this place more a few years back, they poured a pretty decent drink too. read more
